  • This is one of my favorite snacks at night. It is a whole grain, fills me up and is low in calories. Oh, and it is dusted with chocolate cocoa, yet the sugar is really low. My dietitian at Hyvee told me about it. And, no, I don't work for Skinny Pop. I am an eLearning Program Developer, but I was snacking when I wrote this…
  • Since I missed swimming, I made it on a short dog walk. I am really bummed out though, because practice is cancelled tomorrow as the pool is closed. I didn't want to miss two days in a row. Oh well, I might take my Y guest pass from my friend and go there and do some elliptical and weights like I wanted to today. At least…
  • @HappySheri - I am with you at being a plant murderer. The only plants that live at my house are hostas, which I don't think you can kill. Nice job with your working out as well. @KimF0715 - I am glad that you talked to your husband and that he wants to make things work. That is great that you have a fun vacation planned.…
  • After going through menopause and being an oven from my MS in the summer, I am cold most of the time now. I have only lost 16 lbs, but I get cold most of the time. The only time I got hot was when I had a fever. I prefer being cold to hot though. I could never get cool before.
  • @ct0526 I am so sorry for your loss. Dementia is so hard on everyone involved. Enjoy your vacation and your walks on the beach. Very therapeutic.
  • I have always been a stress eater or eaten my feelings. But not anymore. I have changed my diet and cut out refined sugar. I eat veggies, whole grains, fruits, good fats, fish, and lean meats. The key is that I don't eat refined sugar and I don't crave it. I have met with a couple of dietitians and learned to balance my…
  • I think I eat clean. I eat mostly vegetables, fruit, whole grains, fats, and fish and lean meats. I don't eat refined sugar (causes inflammation), dairy (causes inflammation), soy (can turn to hormones), and rarely eat gluten. I have Multiple Sclerosis and I started swimming competitively after 14 years off. I make…
  • I am a competitive swimmer. You can either split the lane or circle swim (swim down the right side of the lane). If you are in the end lane (along the wall), I find it rude to make the other swimmer swim along the wall. I agree with letting people pass you on the wall. There are some pools where people refuse to share a…
  • Kim, I have been there with the husband. I was married for 13 years and my marriage died before it ever started. I have been divorced for over 8 years now and I am friends with my ex's current wife. I am very sad that he has done the same crap to her that he did to me. His current wife stays with him to finish raising my…
  • yes, I eat at least half of my exercise calories back and I am still losing almost 2 lbs/week
  • I finally got a cold. Blech! That zip line leader had a bad cold on Saturday and kept sneezing and coughing! Drinking a lot of fresh squeezed orange juice. (no added sugar) Not really counting calories, just eating all my healthy food. I swam yesterday and felt pretty good, then went home early from work to lay in bed.…
  • Thanks @rdevol, that means a lot!
  • Hello, may I join your group? I like this thread. @jessiquoi, you sound like you are going in the right direction. Acceptance is important and you have to live your life and make your own happiness. I like that. Small steps, that's what it takes some times. I have MS and 5 years ago I had to live day to day and I could…
  • I go to bed at 8 PM each night and don't stay up late on the weekends. I swim every morning at 6:15/6:30 AM. The latest I will stay up is 10 PM on a Saturday night because I don't have to swim Sunday, but I still try to go to sleep before then. I am so tired after 8. And yes, I have no life... I also have MS and severe…
  • Everyone needs to start somewhere. Any exercise will help burn calories. Start today and set your goals to walk every day and continue to increase your time. Also, walking your dog will help you bond with your dog as well. Good job!
  • Don't diet, change the way you eat. Meet with a dietitian and learn how to eat better. Chances are your doctor's office has a registered dietitian. Also, some large supermarkets have dietitians that are free, like Hyvee. Once you learn how to eat better, you can make a lifestyle change.
  • Sorry you were dis'd at the gym. Please don't let them win and scare you away. Say something to management next time. They are just insecure if they are talking about you. They only time I talked bad about someone at the gym was this guy who smelled so bad and had the fan blowing on him, toward the rest of us. He wore the…
  • I eat 1 cup of quinoa every day as part of my lunch. Trader Joes sells frozen quinoa that you can heat up. Hyvee sells ready to eat quinoa. Quinoa is sometimes called a super food. It has been known to reduce migraine headaches.
  • I moved up to a faster lane this week in swim practice. I led the lane today, except for the sprinting. I am a distance swimmer. I was tired after practice, but proud.
  • I have been struggling with this my entire life. It wasn't until recently that I have been able to overcome this. I still could break, but I am on the right path for now. I agree that you need to find someone to talk to and find a different way to deal with your stress. It is different for everyone. I have completely given…
  • I'm 47 and I was down to 150 when I turned 40; however, I put on over 50 lbs when I hit menopause. I couldn't lose it and have been holding onto it for the last 2.5 years. I have finally lost 12 lbs in the last few weeks since on MFP and eating a clean diet (no sugar, no gluten, no soy, no dairy-ok maybe a little dairy) I…
  • I am sorry that you are struggling. I have struggled with food my entire life. Four and a half years ago I got diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. A couple of months later I got diagnosed with depression. It was awful. It does sound to me like you have some depression going on. I highly recommend finding someone to talk to.…
  • I am swimming faster. I am healthy (have MS, but staying healthy - not getting sick). I am happier. I would love to get as fast as I was when I stopped swimming (14 years ago). I would love to weigh what I did when I got divorced (8 years ago) - need to lose 40 lbs Would love to get off my MS medicine (multiple sclerosis…
  • I confess that I can't remember the last time I had sex. I can't even remember my last date. Need a life... Yet I swim with hot men every morning in speedos...
  • I have had some trouble with eating when I am bored and eating when I am stressed. This was a problem since I was a child. I would like to recommend that you talk to your doctor and see about getting some help. I have stuffed my feelings into food for many years. I have MS and got sick with severe depression about 5 years…
  • Since I rarely buy pre-processed foods, I would look at ingredients. I normally eat vegetables, fruit and fish or low-fat meat. I had some pre-packaged potatoes last night, but they have potatoes in them. I don't buy food that I can't read or understand what an ingredient is. If it isn't natural, I am not going to eat it.…
  • I can't eat too much before I swim, so I eat these refrigerated Fresh Bars from Hyvee. They are sweetened with fruit and honey and have a good mix of carbs, protein, and fat. They are 220 calories. I think if you get a good mix of carbs, protein, and fat you will be good. I drank coffee one day and almost threw it up in…
  • I had shingles 14 years ago (was 33). It was horrible. If it hasn't hit you full force yet, it will and you won't want to exercise or get out of bed. And you need to take it easy or you will get even sicker. Eat well and take care of yourself. I hope you have some good pain medication. I remember sleeping all the time and…
  • I am so sorry for your dx. I am glad you have an answer though to what is wrong. I have MS and had depression hit me hard when I was first diagnosed. There are many different medications out there and getting a good doctor and therapist is important. Is there any chance you can swim or do water aerobics? Then you don't…
  • I think we tax food with sugar, corn syrup, and other types of "bad" ingredients added. Then not tax the vegetables, fruit, and other foods that don't have those ingredients added. People complain that healthy food is too expensive.
