I probably damaged my knee more with running and in Tabata class. Tabata is similar to a boot camp but it is done in short, fast bursts to get a HIIT type workout out of it.

Just checking in to say I'll be back in class next Monday. YAY, finally!! I did start practicing my form to see if there was any pain left when shifting from stance to stance. So far so good.

Oh, and it's 2, 1 hour classes per week. You can go to more classes if you want at no extra charge. Classes are also never prorated. So, for example, I'm only taking the later half of this session but I do have to pay full price for it.

I go through a park district. The classes are in two types of sessions, 4 week and 8 week sessions. The 4 week sessions are $39, the 8 week sessions are $79. The testing cost depends on the belt level. At my level (yellow-light blue) it costs $50, then it goes up. My daughter's last test to red/black cost $70. Gear: $35…

Hi guys! Late coming to this group. I have a Polar A300. I love it except the fact you need that special USB cord to charge it. I lost my cord! I can't find a replacement. Have any of you run into this problem?

I did print this out. My daughter and I read it together at Friday night dinner. She at first was offended...but kept reading. We were laughing so hard! We were nodding at some of the stuff on there. Some things I thought were obvious, like her turning lights on/off with her feet. But to my surprise, she apparently sizes…

I've said pretty much this to my kid and her friends when they see me exercise and ask me why. I tell them kids are lucky, they get to play and have recess and that's your exercise. Could you see me and your moms and dads running around playing 'It' and 'hide&seek'? Wouldn't that look strange? So we adults have to exercise…

Con: Your dog thinks you're angry at him when making kia sounds and cowers.

I love it! I'll have to print this out for my daughter to read.

I sweat a lot, mostly in my face. It's a good ole' family trait. When I first started TKD I wiped my face with my sleeves. My sleeves were soaked by the end of class. Now I bring a small face towel with me and tuck it under my belt in back. My instructor jokes I look like a football player. Every chance I get I wipe my…

Great advice BW, I have been. But mostly because I like to get the harder stuff out of the way. When I get to my stronger side things seem easier, making me think "there, that wasn't so bad". Mind games I do to myself.

I get it completely! I've only been babying my legs for a short while and seem to have lost a lot of strength in them already. To know I'll have to rely on my upper body to complete squats to rebuild muscle and avoid re-injury is a bit frustrating. I'll try both with the leg extended and not extended. Today will be my…

My PT has me working on strengthening my quads, hams, and glutes to help my knee along. Leg presses, bridges, and knee pull-ins are part of the therapy. After looking up those pistol squats and seeing "how to build up to a pistol squat" I saw someone doing a modified version using TRX straps. That gave me an idea. I used…

I have to laugh how many times I have to Google some of the stuff you guys talk about. I had no idea what a pistol squat was. HOLY COW! And you guys can do those? SMH, another thing to add to things I can strive toward. :)

I wish I could go to class to at least watch. My PT sessions are at the same time as TKD class. :( Like BW, I've been focusing on upper body strength routines. I've also been doing core routines and lots of stretching. I keep checking every few days to see if I can do form at home. Last time I tried (a few days ago) I was…

Wow, you must've been really working very hard at that to advance, skipping 3 grades. CONGRATS!!! So very inspirational Faerie0506. :)

@Aztec, I do get moving. Like you, I have lost a tremendous amount of weight. Congratulations to you by the way. I've lost over a hundred pounds myself (127). I went through a bunch of crap (divorce, injury, etc) a few years ago and regained some back. I've bounced back, got the negatives out of my head and am back at it…

Watching those side by side was pretty funny, and neat. Thanks Soy!

Even though I haven't been able to chime in on the practice check-in's yet weekly sounds good to me too.

I agree, it does sound malicious. It doesn't sound like the student or the others that left really learned anything from the experience. That's really sad they put that much effort into their skill without taking away the respect, honor and discipline parts of it. (assuming the student had been at it long enough to be at a…

Personally I like to do workouts that I can't quite get through so I can work on accomplishing them. I like how you put it: can keep up with. Once I can keep up with a workout then I know it's time to make it harder or move on. Accomplishing each challenge I give myself is my motivation. Cause darn-it being 48 y.o. will…

I relate so much to this! Calorie cutting doesn't quite cut it. It drives me up the wall when people tell me that it IS that simple. I can eat my baseline-weigh my food, not eat back my exercise calories and the scale may or may not budge. I did notice that when I do two workouts a day, even if neither are major…

Can you make a suggestion about splitting up the class into two sections so the higher belts stay challenged while the lower belts learn basics? When they do that in my class I appreciate it and also get to appreciate seeing what the higher belts are doing in their section - knowing that's what I'm supposed to be striving…

Chon Ji, that's my form! I'm still on the injury list but I did stop by class last night to talk with my instructor about my knee status. I told him I'll be back in a couple more weeks for slow-motion movements at first. I'm also now well enough to get back to practicing my Chon Ji at home. Finally!

Geo, I stopped at my class today on the way to physical therapy to update my teacher on my knee and asked which form TKD we do. He said ITF. You were right.
-
Oh, sorry, my bad. Still, major congrats are in order!! :)
-
Congrats on both BW! And that was your first time too, even more impressive!!

Geo, do you ever bring a friend with you to your tournaments as your cheerleader? Maybe making plans with them for afterward to "celebrate" the event will make you feel not so bad. To me, being brave enough to put yourself out there like that is a huge thing! Another thing that may help is seeing yourself spar. Sometimes,…

We also don't do end of class stretching very often, we chit chat. I stretch a little on my own when I get home and I'll do my foam roller. If my feet (arches) are especially hurting I'll roll those out with my wooden roller. And of course water.

Yes, I sprained two tendons in my knee: MCL and meniscus. It's already on the mend. As you can imagine, I am more than anxious to get through my PT homework to get the surrounding muscles strengthened. For the past 3 weeks I've been alternating upper body strength and core routines only. Haha, I at least will be able to…
