  • 160 is in the healthy range of BMI for 5’8”.
  • Good job! Congratulations. You look great!!
  • Yes I’m treated nicer in general. I get help when shopping for clothes. Work associates I’ve just met don’t automatically underestimate me. I’m down about 60lbs and my manager noticed today. I’ve got my fingers crossed I’m up for a promotion soon. Ha ha...I’m the same person I was a year ago, They are falling for my evil…
  • Don’t believe the calories burned on ellipticals or MFP database. Buy a device with a heart rate monitor to help measure your calorie burn more accurately so you know how many exercise calories you can eat and still lose.
  • I’ve done it multiple times. Lost 50+ lbs every time. Gained it all back every time. I would lose because I literally got sick of eating protein, so I barely ate anything. oh and when the weight comes back, it comes back fast! Also your teeth get coated in plaque very quickly. I had to go to get my teeth cleaned 4 times a…
  • Wow and congratulations! You look great.
  • I wouldn’t call it a cheat week, but enjoy yourself. Don’t log, but try to eat at maintenance or a smidge higher by paying attention to serving sizes and keep active. Dont feel guilty about enjoying your trip! Just be sure to go back to logging as soon as you return (that day) and don’t wait until Monday. I’ve done three…
  • I’ve started upping and lowering my calories every week. When I am feeling tired and very hungry I move the calories up to .5 loss, I don’t lose that week. Probably logging errors so I’m negating my deficit by 50 calories or so. So the next week I will change it back to 1 lb loss and be more restrictive and I will lose 1.5…
  • Well I went dress shopping today and I could wear a size 12 on top easy in several designers. I guess they are giving a little more room for the boobs than the measurement. And I’ve lost a few more pounds since I shopped last time. I could also wear a size 8 jeans. I’m 6 pounds away from my goal weight. Woo hoo! I’m glad…
  • I have lost over 55 lbs and have bouts of hunger most every day. I’ve started drinking a full glass of water when it seems too soon after I’ve eaten to be hungry. That works to stop the hunger because I’m actually thirsty not hungry. Also they make 100 calorie nut packs that take away hunger pains. Popcorn works good too…
  • Unfortunately I have gone up and down in weight over the last few decades. Every time I’m at or near my goal weight I’m extremely frustrated with how dresses are made. The designers assume the bust and hips are around the same. My current measurements are 5’8” tall, 40.5” bust (size 14), 31” waist (size 12) and 39” hips…
  • I’ve done Atkins and then Atkins when it started letting you subtract fiber from your total carbs, so you got more berries and some other low carb options besides meat and cheese. I would lose a lot (10 lbs or so) the first two weeks from water weight but weight loss stops after that unless you watch your portions. Usually…
  • 5’8” 171 lbs BMI 26 Pants size 10 (almost in an 8) Shirt / dress size 14 (dress 14 too big in hips, but 12 too right on bust .. frustrating and disappointing as heck)
  • Today I walked outside at a brisk pace for 4.5 miles and still had energy to cook dinner, unload the dish washer, fold laundry, sweep the floor, clean kitty litter, go buy needed items at Target and the PetSmart and come home and wonder if I should get on the treadmill because I have a lot of energy left. It feels weird…
  • I agree about making sure you keep moving. I’m 51 and have lost 56 lbs since March. I try to move all day plus get 60 min a day in intentional exercise throughout the day which includes walking that gets my heart rate above 100. It may be a 10 min walks, but it makes my heart pump. I also take the stairs at work when I…
  • You look great! Awesome job. I’m so happy for you.
  • @tlsb2016 has a good point about exercise. I didn’t start with all that exercise in the beginning. Even at 225+ lbs I was actually already going to the gym 4-5 days a week and doing the elliptical for 30 minutes, but I was over eating 1000s of calories at night, so it didn’t help that much. So when I decided to make a…
  • I’m 51 and have lost 56 lbs since March 2017. I’m hoping to lose about 9 lbs more. I set MFP as sedatary and ate most of my exercise calories back. I started with 1.5 lbs deficit per week, but changed it to 1 lb after I had lost 30lbs. It was just too few calories to still have energy to work and exercise at a heigher…
  • Wow! You look fit, healthy and happy. I’m so happy for you.
  • I’ve been doing this since March 2017 (with three vacation breaks). I’ve lost 55 lbs. Two weeks ago I lost 1.5, last week 0 (which was upsetting but I kept it up) this week 3.5 lbs. I’m sure next weigh in it will be 0 again because I had a woosh this week. The difference between people who succeed at losing weight and…
  • I see a slim person and wonder if she has to work really hard to stay that way or if it’s easy for her and doesn’t think twice about what she eats or how many calories she needs to burn that day. I wonder what that would be like. I compare myself to other women that look around my height and have the same body type. If I…
  • That’s freshman 15. My daughter is a junior in college and she and her friends all gained 15 or more pounds when they went off to school. They had to make their own food choices without parents making sure they weren’t filling up with junk. Last semester she got sick of eating all the junk and is again making better…
  • 12 years old is when puberty really kicks in for girls and they go through that awkward and chunky stage. If you go to her school you will see a lot of girls look like that. Most grow out of it. Just make sure she is active. I don’t know how overweight she is so this is my experience. I was a chunky child and…
  • Stop weighing until you feel smaller. The scale is affecting your mood and desire to do what’s good for your body. When I start a new weight loss plan I don’t weigh for about one month. Then I don’t obsess over the scale and just focus on eating better and moving more.
  • Think of how happy you will be in the morning passing them up. Now think about how unhappy you will be if you ate a bunch of them. If you really want one, have one of your kids put it in a zip lock bag and eat it when all the rest are gone.
  • I can’t handle Thin Mints either. I would eat an entire sleeve if I ate one. I would have to pass unless I wanted to give up a couple of meals for cookies.
  • Others may not agree, but I usually wait about a month or more to weigh when I start a ‘diet’. I just want to focus on eating better, moving more and being kinder to myself. I don’t want the scale to derail any of the good things I’m doing for myself. When I feel smaller (clothes looser) I will get the courage to weigh.
  • I’m a yo-yo dieter. There, I said it. I started at 15 years old and every 3 to 5 years I will lose and then gain 50, 60 or 70 lbs. I’m down again 51 lbs. I want to lose 14 more to be “normal”. I’m 51 and sick of the cycle and not being able to wear the same clothes two years in a row. I am determined to figure out why I go…
  • Unfortunately 40 min walking doesn’t burn a lot. Maybe 175 calories. I walked 53 minutes yesterday (about 3 miles) at a brisk pace and my Apple Watch gave me 217 calories. I only weigh 13 lbs less than you.
  • Your post inspired me to get to my goal by the time I’m 52 in August. I lost 50 lbs last year and now I would like to lose about 15 more to be at the top of the normal BMI range. I’m just “overweight” now.
