  • It might be worth looking at some core activation exercises for beginners. It's sometimes hard to complete movements if you're not recruiting the right muscles (or you do the movements okay, but you're not engaging the right muscles so you're not strengthening what you're supposed to).
  • I wouldn't take nutritional advice from a trainer, personally. That's not their job and usually have had very limited training; they aren't dietitians. 200g is way high, no idea how they can justify that. This is a good link for a summary of the research in the area.…
  • I've been running on and off since the age of about 5-6. Never bother stretching, much to some people's dismay. The recommendation is to stretch only after exercise. The evidence for the benefit of stretching is quite mixed. I've evaluated the evidence and on balance I choose not to bother. I see a sports therapist every…
  • What time do you exercise? If I exercise late, I feel wired for quite a few hours after. If I've done less than a couple hours exercise in the day, I don't notice a difference. If I've done more than that, then I am usually more tired and like a little extra sleep sometimes.
  • I'm vegan (for ethical reasons). Eating plant based doesn't promote health or weight loss unless you follow the same principles as any other diet (i.e. not eating too much processed food, eating plenty of fruit and veg, not eating a surplus). I've been vegan since my teens and my weight has fluctuated the same way lots of…
  • If you believe you are low in either, speak to your doctor and have some tests run. They can advise you as to whether you require supplementation (and what dose), are fine, or maybe a little low and just need to tighten your diet up a little. Good nutrient timing and being conscientious with your diet can bring lowish…
  • Numb feet can be to do with lacing. Check the below link out. http://www.thepodiatrycentre.com.au/fitness/different-lacing-techniques/ Personally I have quite wide feet. I stick to the same road shoe every time I buy them (I think I'm on the 13th model now?). One year they made the toe box smaller. I had to get rid of them…
  • Cramps are normally a sign of fatigue (especially if they follow exercise). Cutting back and building up more slowly may help. Make sure you are hydrated, too (use the colour of your urine to guide you). If you're on any medication, check with your doctor that they may not be exacerbating the cramps, as it is a side effect…
  • Build a good base before introducing any speed work. Try not to exceed the 10% rule. Don't make your longest run more than 10+% longer per week, and don't increase your total miles by more than 10% per week. Additionally, if you are increasing mileage, make sure you use some sort of cycle which means you don't burn out.…
  • Whatever you enjoy and you can commit to long term. You dont want to burn out. You can always increase frequency and duration as you get fitter. Exercise hasnt physically helped me lose weight (because food does that primarily), but as someone with a history of binge eating, it has helped psychologically (which has been…
  • Makes no difference. I've started running fasted regularly to save my dignity as I get such a bad stomach (and so I can wake up later) but theres not much cause to otherwise.
  • I'd avoid telling your dates you're "dieting" as such. Maybe frame it as trying to make healthier choices in 2018. That way they aren't as aware that you're insecure about your weight. If they're a nice guy it might make you both feel a bit awkward if you mention a "diet", and if they're not a nice guy then you don't want…
