  • One mile.
  • Sweet Hot Mister Mustard - so good on sandwiches Gochujang - great on BBQ meats or fried rice. Like sriracha but with a funkier and deeper flavor Duck sauce (the good kind, not the insipid kind that Chinese take out places give you) - delicious on anything fried/breaded. Also really good on roasted pork or duck and plain…
  • Truth. In a similar vein, Trader Joe's Everything But the Bagel Seasoning would also be quite delicious on rice.

  • I used the Body Weight planner during my loss phase. It was more accurate than MFP for me.
  • The only low alcohol wines I can think of are white and sweet (moscato d'asti and the like). They can be very good, but don't seem to be what you're looking for. Outside of that, you can probably find some reds at 10%-12%. Maybe a lambrusco or beujolais nouveau or something like that. 13% tends to be the floor for the reds…
  • One of the benefits of a HM is that it's a very doable endurance race and the training doesn't have to monopolize your life. 2X per week runs aren't ideal but you have plenty of time and should be fine. Work on pushing your normal runs into the 6 mile range over time and if possible, try to throw one or two longer runs…

  • Worrying about leaner or stronger is majoring in the minors for now. Focus on getting yourself into condition to perform satisfactorily in all legs. This means focus on training for the actual events themselves. Cross training is helpful, but not as helpful as active training for the running, riding, or swimming portions.…
  • I tried a new one last night just because I had stuff in the fridge. Anchovies. It was surprisingly good. If you like the little guys on pizza, you'll like them just fine in cottage cheese (don't use too much though as the cottage cheese somewhat amplifies the salt).
  • My go tos for overripe bananas are some sort of banana bread (my current fave are apple/banana muffins), a mix in for oatmeal, or ice cream (no cream required). Also, note that overripe bananas freeze really well. You won't be able to eat them out of hand, but they work just fine in any recipe that involves mashed up…

  • When I look up calories on the PH website, they show 250 calories for a medium pepperoni pan pizza slice and 200 calories for a medium pepperoni thin crust. Calories are relatively low because PH medium pies are pretty small (12") all things considered. 1/8 of that size pie is pretty much nothing.
  • Sigh...pizza and tortilla chips are my favorite things on that list and they just happen to have the worst quantity to calorie ratio. Seriously though, the calories in tortilla chips is just stupid. At least pizza can be a full meal.
  • Nope - just eat it cold. The benefit of the overnight soak is that the oats don't need to be cooked.
  • It does. It adds fat and a mellow sweetness (but it's still savory). It's delicious. Come to think of it, nothing wrong with adding a bit of butter to your rice. Fat makes a ton of difference to flavor.

  • Sazon is a good suggestion. Also, try having it with duck sauce. If you don't mind more cooking, fried rice is a guaranteed crowd pleaser though my favorite is fried rice with only a bit of browned garlic and salt/pepper. Filipinos call it siningag and it's super easy to make.

  • Why put avocado in a brownie? Does it just replace the fat source or allow for some other omissions from a more traditional recipe or is it really more of a texture thing?
  • Conventional wisdom is that your incremental burn when walking is about 30% of your body weight per mile. A 150 pound person would burn just under 50 calories per mile more than they would have burned otherwise. Your watch might not be too far off. My Garmin is pretty reasonable with calorie estimates. Resting calories…
  • I also hold weight in my love handles the longest so as my stomach goes down the love handles tend to look a bit more pronounced. As long as you're comfortable with your calorie intake, just stick with it.
  • Or go to any high end supermarket that sells prepared sushi and ask the counter person if they can sell you sheets of nori. That said, the same stores will also like carry it on shelf. You could also ask a sushi restaurant if they'd sell you some. Since restaurants aren't usually in the habit of declining sales, I'm pretty…
  • It's obviously working based on the fact that this thread exists and has participants that are neither tall nor overweight.
  • Many people do target to finish their first half faster than their easy run pace. Heck, if you follow a traditional training plan, finishing the distance itself can be relatively anticlimatic since your weekly long runs will already be close to that distance. Under a good HM training plan, the fact that you'll be able to…
  • Nope...airlines only give preference based on rewards status and paid upgrades. Physical characteristics don't really come into play.
  • That plan seems so terribly odd to me. I would venture a guess that it's an exception rather than the rule but if it works for you, it works for you. I guess experienced runners can get by with that kind of mileage if they already have the legs/conditioning for the distance and aren't looking to really push performance but…
  • How many times have you blamed and/or taken pain upon yourself because somebody else felt appropriate to impose upon you?
  • The science suggests that fueling helps to improve performance for activities that will last longer than 45 minutes or so. I can find the source study if needed but it's easily findable on the internet. Radiolab also did a great episode on this. Interestingly enough, one of the biggest benefits of fueling is to 'trick'…

  • What training plan are you using? I don't claim to be an expert on this, but the training plans that I've seen all have a weekly long run at easy pace with a distance that approaches the ultimate race distance over time. It's a common basic key to conditioning. Race pace runs are also common, but they're usually relatively…
  • Absolutely not. The fact that I'm 6'3" with legs that don't fit coach and barely fit economy plus on domestic flights does not make it my responsibility to worry that my knees jamming into the hard plastic seat back will annoy the person sitting in front of me. If anything, I want other people to be annoyed by the fact…
  • Did you run your first half for a certain target pace or just to complete the distance (that is, no real target time or a target that was a relative lay up relative to training times)? If the latter, then I'm absolutely agreed that there is zero need to run the full distance prior the race. Heck, you could even limit your…
  • For a first time half marathoner who is going to target to finish the race at a pace above easy, I would argue that it's critical to run an entire 13 beforehand in order to judge pacing strategy and to confirm that the target is in a reasonable range for the distance. With a longest run of 10 miles at 100% easy pace,…
  • In this vein...I had a toasted english muffin with a quarter ounce of cheese melted on it and a healthy sprinkling of TJ's Everything Bagel seasoning for breakfast this morning. Not quite the same as garlic bread, but it definitely scratched the carb/toasty/garlicky itch. Less than 200 calories. You could double the cheese…
