Compared to this time year, how have you improved your fitness? Exactly one year ago, I had just started my weight loss efforts. I was 60 pounds heavier than I am now and did zero exercise. I was showing signs of sleep apnea, pre-diabetes, and general poor fitness. I now have a BMI of 21-22 and body fat % somewhere around…

The long run is a key part of your training. You won't get the benefit if you split it. Word of advice - if your goal is just to finish the HM regardless of pace, then a couple of 10 mile long runs during training will be more than enough to allow you to achieve that goal. It'll be a little tough for the last couple of…

Worse than tripping over something is hitting that small hole in the pavement and having that split second when you feel like you're on your way to a rolled ankle.

Premium coach/economy is a standard offering for all of the major airlines anymore.

This recipe is about 1200-1300 calories as written. You might as well get the cheesy bread.

They're also oddly specific. Why a pulled pork wrap? Why not just pulled pork? or a normal pulled pork sandwich? Darn weird Canadians.

See if they'll sub a salad for any sides.

Negligible impact.

Good luck! One tip - remember that there's a difference between logging and being cognizant of your calorie intake. I still monitor and control my calorie intake to keep myself from drifting back to old habits with portion size and snacking (why I put on weight to begin with is not a mystery to me). That said, I don't keep…

The ultimate sign of an inflated ego is the belief that one's self is important or valuable enough to be an inspiration to others.

Serious question, forgive me if the answer is obvious. Why does weight matter when measuring calorie burn on a stationary bike?
-
Technically it's not terribly outlandish to burn 1000 calories in an hour. It's just not something most normal people can or want to do. Running, swimming, jumping rope, or cycling can all get you there but all would require a really hardcore level of intensity. For example, a 170 pound person would need to run 6 minute…

FYI - involvement in most social media platforms implies a certain amount of narcissism and ego. It requires an inherent assumption/belief that people are interested in you. Posting any picture of yourself is ego-driven and narcissistic behavior unless it's a group picture that you're trying to share with others or…

After getting back to where I want to be a couple of weeks ago, it's been a tough week for me food and drink-wise. I have a feeling that my maintenance will be a continuous series of 2-3 week gain & lose cycles. I'm just no good at maintaining an even keel. Oddly enough, I'm totally OK with this.

Make sure you have a clear goal in mind for the race. If shooting for a certain time, then come up with a pacing plan, and stick with it. If shooting just to finish in good form, then slow and steady is the way to go. If you've never run 13 miles at race pace before, do not be deceived by the fact that your training,…

You might want to consider drinking a bit more, especially if you do a bit of exercise. Exact requirements are specific to individuals but the standard 8X8 recommendation should put you at 64 ounces per day. Since you exercise regularly, you'd want to drink even more than that.

What do you eat for protein? Proteins (and fats) tend to be the most filling for many people. I'm worried that based on your food examples and the fact that you say that you need to add oil to make vegetarian food satisfying that you're neglecting to eat complete protein sources?

It's grad school. You'll only graduate once. Celebrate it and enjoy. Don't worry about logging. Finally getting out of grad school was awesome (especially because I knew I would never have to set foot in a classroom as a full-time student again).

How is your hydration?

Banana with Trader Joe's cookie butter. My new obsession.

Melt them together. Turn them into one marshmallow.

Hot eggs are iffy. Room temp eggs are the way to go. I feel the same way about most food. The best way to to ruin food is to try and eat it when it's too hot.

Awesome race reports this weekend. Congratulations to all. I'm bummed that I totally forgot about the Broad St. run in Philly yesterday. I definitely would have run that if I had it on my radar screen and the weather turned out to be perfect. It hurt a little seeing coverage from the finish line on the local news. I just…

Go with the more natural and comfortable way. If you try to visualize what your body is doing, you'd see that the slightly bent knee is already removing the bulk of the impact force even though you're keep your leg relatively rigid. It predisposes your leg/body to flow with the impact motion instead of against it. No need…

though beware if you have multiple users who are in the same weight range. The scale won't be able to differentiate between them.
