BMI isn't inaccurate, it's just not as hard and fast as people think it to be. Though unscientifically, I would argue that more of us conform to the BMI range than do not conform. A surprising number of people claim to be exceptions to the norm and it's likely that they're not all correct.

why dress it up? I just put peanut butter on a spoon in one hand, hold a banana in the other, and then alternate bites. If I really want to fancy it up, I dip the peanut butter spoon in chocolate chips or coconut. I've also been known to sub cookie butter for peanut butter. Assuming a medium sized banana and one tablespoon…

As others have said, that aspect of running form likely isn't the cause of your pain. It's more likely a lack of muscle development and/or landing your foot too far out in front of your body. Worrying about anything else at this point won't get you anywhere. The former can be fixed with more slow and easy miles. It'll…

Just keep in mind that a cup of coconut milk has more than 500 calories. You'll turn that 175 calorie 1/4 cup serving into a 400+ calorie meal! Coconut rice is definitely delicious, but it's lower calorie to just add a tablespoon of butter to your rice.

Uh...it's not the actual urination that's gender specific, it's the implements of urination.

Since it sounds like you've quit already and have the nicotine out of your system, remember that the cigarette will do nothing for your stress. Now that your body is no longer addicted to the nicotine it will no longer provide any special relief. You'd get the same physical benefit from a cup of warm tea or from a brisk…

Run the same experiment while cooking the chop in the pan. You'll get the same result. The chop does not expel water from 100% of it's surface area 100% of the time while cooking. Meat only browns because you've driven off enough moisture too allow the maillard reaction to happen. Once you've reached that stage, oil will…

My pet peeve is people who open bags of chips with a vertical tear. Open the bag with the seam for goodness' sake! Unfortunately, the vertical tear is trendy in the packaging world right now and I am not ashamed to admit that I do not buy brands that use that type of packaging (I'm looking at you Ritz Crisps and Kettle…

I got a cheese doodle caught in my throat once. Almost choked. Can confirm post subject.

Older post but while the above is right in theory, note that the meat doesn't need to absorb the oil. The oil only needs to surface coat the meat. If you want to try a little experiment melt a table spoon of butter in a bowl. Take a cooked chop and toss it in that butter. See how much of the butter is left when you are…

You'll like cover something like 3 miles in an hour and a half of hiking. Assuming that the terrain will be a little gnarly and maybe you'll be toting a pack, 200 to 300 calories wouldn't be an unreasonable guess. Likewise, 100 calories for the actual rappelling seems pretty safe. Even if it's off it's not off by a ton.…

How much cake are you eating? I just looked up a recipe for simple white cake. The sugar contributed slightly less than 800 calories to that recipe (1 cup). Even assuming a 36% decrease in calories for this example, that would equate to about 290 calories. Over 12 servings, that reduction is equal to about 25 calories per…

I don't necessarily think they're wrong but I do think that the calorie loss isn't important in the grand scheme of things. Since it's fairly impossible to get a 100% accurate picture of the calories that we eat every day, a 5-8% loss in sugar calories in baked goods won't really make a difference.

It depends on your goals. Start with 50% if you want to continue to lose weight. Target 100% or very close to it if you'd rather make sure you can maximize your performance. I tend to eat back all of my running calories but I use fairly conservative estimates for calories burned. I ignore my fitness tracker since it tends…

This. Pace doesn't really matter as long as you're using a running stride (both feet leaving the ground at the same time). The main reason that running burns more calories than walking is because of the vertical distance traveled during the running stride. It might not seem like much, but if you jump 4 inches with each…

It is if it's CRUNCHY TO THE EXTREME!

OP - it's not as uncommon as you think. Most of us are here because we constantly think about food. As long as it isn't interfering with the life you otherwise want to lead, you're OK. Check your calorie targets to make sure that you're not overly depriving yourself but overall constantly thinking about food is pretty…

Too low calorie. Mayonnaise is the correct answer.

The great thing about picky eaters is that they tend to be OK with monotony (same thing every day). Find what they like and just keep making it until they tell you to stop!

Scones - a sweeter version if possible. You're on the right track with chocolate chips. Nobody is going to be looking for uber-authenticity. They just want something that's going to taste good and be fun. I'm actually surprised that anybody is allowed to bring in home-baked goods anymore. I thought gluten-free and/or…

There's nothing wrong with eating at night whether it be cookies or anything else. The only thing you need to think about is keeping those snacks within your calorie target. Even though I'm not in loss phase any more I still like cottage cheese with jelly for my night time snack. It scratches the itch for something sweet…

I think jfan's question was for me  My post was right above his. Yes, 170 at 6'2" is pretty lean. I'd guesstimate about 10% body fat. For my tastes (and my wife's) it's actually borderline too lean and my face starts to look gaunt if I drop even a few pounds into the 160's. 175 seems to be my sweet spot.
-
Depending on your weight, both seem high. Rule of thumb for incremental calories spent when running is that you burn about 0.63 of your body weight per mile. A 150 pound person would burn about 350 calories extra when running 3.75 miles. MMR seems much more realistic.

It's impossible to see a trend from one data point. If you're comfortable with your logging then stick with it...it's likely water fluctuation.

I'm iffy on them myself. I like hot oatmeal, and the cold chewiness of overnight oats kind of reminds me of soggy paper. I can definitely see why people like them, they're just not for me.

If you know it's normal soreness, you can push through. If you're not sure if it's muscle soreness or a more real type of pain, I'd start light but stop immediately if the pain doesn't go away. When in doubt, don't work out. Stretching can help both types of pain. Sometimes what feels like joint/tendon pain will go away…

all great suggestions so far. They've hit on all of my favorites! Stuffed with sausage/rice/cheese marinaded in italian dressing and grilled Breaded and baked/fried. great as a standalone parmesan or as a pizza topping. Sauteed as a taco filling (works especially well to bulk out or to reduce the calorie load of a more…

If the BBQ sauce will be a more straightforward traditional sweet, then go with sour. A vinegar slaw would be traditional. Butternut squash may not be the best choice because it's inherently sweet. If the BBQ sauce will lean towards sweet/sour/salty because of the tamarind, then double down on the sweet but go with a more…

236 calories per ounce is pretty high. That's about double what I've seen. Most packaged beef jerkies are about 80-100 calories per ounce or thereabouts depending on the flavoring and cut used. Generally, the drier the jerky the higher the calories per ounce (but the more volume of jerky needed to make up one ounce). If…

I did the same. My true goal weight was 175lbs at about 6'2". In reality, I use 170 as my maintenance target such that 175 is pretty much the highest I'd ever see on the scale given normal fluctuations. I like the idea of having some headroom so I don't immediately panic if I think I see my weight trending upwards.
