Correction to yesterday's AF count: 13/17 on Take a Break. I made it through last night AF - whew! Checking in here & being able to wite about how I'm feeling in the moment helps immensely. Each morning I wake up with the intention not to drink and when I look at the numbers I've been mostly successful (76%). Agree with…

June: AF 5/6 Take a Break 14/16 (I think). Good for everyone for meeting their goals, and feeling well the next day! I'm really struggling during this time of national social unrest. Did my part in a local protest today. Now that I'm "waking up" and educating myself on how entrenched systemic racism is currently, and…

AF 4/5 in June. 13/16 on Take a Break. I caved today but only drank 1 can of 10% Brut bubbles. @MissMay: It was US Customs & Border Protection (CBP to those of us who commute across the border) at the Del Bonita crossing between Alberta and Montana. @forestdweller1: You and I both will be invited off MFP, probably…

Ha! Ha! I love the quote!! :p

AF June 4/4 Take a Break 13/15. REALLY trying not to drink tonight - looks like I'm going to make it. Why? DH is Canadian and has dual citizenship now. Two step-daughters, 2 son-in-laws (SIL) and 4 grand kids are all Canadian. One family built a nice home here on Whitefish Lake in Montana. Bad windstorm last week resulted…

AF 3/3 for June and 12/14 for Take a Break. @globalhiker: I think of bears as I do the ocean, not fearfully but respectfully. By themselves they probably won't bother you. But if you accidently get between a sow and her cub/s then you'll want your bear spray disarmed and in your hand, while you back away making a lot of…

AF 2/2 for June and 11/13 on Take a Break. @sklaw31: Tell you 'friend', the ginger beer is N/A, so what's to hide? Except it is a little pricey. I use the zero-calorie beer and the 5cal/8oz Ocean Spray Cran-Cherry juice (delish!) for mocktails. I drink them all day. DH recently ask me, as I appeared with yet another refill…

Update: AF 1/1 for June. 9/11 for Take a Break. I caved and had 2 IPAs with a killer pizza yesterday evening. I've been off-line over the weekend while I try and process what's going on in the country. Full disclosure: I'm a card-carrying political progressive raised on the social justice side of the Catholic Church. We…

AF 1/1 for June and something else for Take a Break. Need to catch up with the end of May :# But definitely in for June!
-
AF 11/29 for May and 8/9 on Take a Break. Busy day getting my "look" back. To quote Lizzo: "Hair toss, check my nails. Baby tell me how you doin'? Feelin' good as hell!" Today: Brow tint, facial, pedi. Still need a haircut, botox & a massage :) Have a great weekend everyone!

Oops - missed the check-in last night. AF 10/27 and 7/8 on Take a Break.

A quick check-in since it's so late (got to talking to family in Alaska - they're 2 hrs behind out time). AF9/27 and 6/7 on Take a Break. That said, @shorepine: Sooo glad you are back with us. I've been thinking of you and hoping things were OK. @dawnbgethealthy: Yes, the drink did help. And yes, men can be reluctant and…

AF 8/25 and 5/6 on Take a Break. First, "MAHOLO NUI LOA" (Thank you very much in Hawaiian) for the hugs, words of encouragement, support and prayers. Not sure what I'd do w/o this group (and Take a Break). Yes I do - I'd be drinking a lot more. Interestingly, I had a slight headache this morning after only ONE can…

This is a shameless ask for lots of Hugs. Thx

AF 7/25 and 4/5 for Take a Break. Feel free to skip this post - it's not uplifting. I had another husband-induced, massive urge to drink today. I held out for awhile but I finally caved and drank a can of 10% Brut bubbles (my go to). This time I did the deep dive into "Why did I want a drink so badly?" On reflection, I was…

Hey there @RubyRed427: Congrats on not opening the bottle in the fridge. Sounds like you've moved away from "resisting" drinking to not wanting to drink - a huge step! I'm not there yet but today was a learning experience. (See my post in Less-A.). The program I'm doing is called "Take a Break" by Rachel Hart. I wouldn't…

AF 7/24 for Less Alcohol May & 4/4 on Take a Break. I haven't done my homework today so nothing to report as far as that program. Unfortunately, my DH can be such a Debbie Downer sometimes. I was soooo irritated with him this afternoon. I called him a "grumpy old man." Historically, this would have been my cue to inhale…

AF 6/23 for May and 3/3 on Take a Break -> whew! Lots of work today. I finished the "Urges" module which included 3 podcasts and a worksheet. The takeaway for me was that when we feel and urge to drink we have 3 choices: "React" (have a drink), "Resist" (white knuckle thru the urge w/ willpower - not usually sustainable…

5/22 for May and 2/2 on Take a Break. Lots of homework. I imagine to keep us focused and busy, while getting through the first period of not drinking. My witching hour is 'after work' drinking, anytime from 3:00pm to 6:00pm. I don't even mind stopping before dinner, but I sure like to relax after work. Now there's an…

@JenT304 Me too! Last weekend I skipped logging-on for a couple of days due to repeated "server down" error messages. BTW, I mostly post on Less Alcohol, but I like reading this message board as well.

Almost forgot: AF today makes 4/21.

I have an announcement! I've signed up for a 30 day "Take a Break" from drinking program offered on-line by Rachel Hart. I can't remember who to credit :( but someone in this group mentioned her podcasts. I listened to 3 of them back-to-back and they resonated with me. So I thought, "Do I REALLY want to commit to this?" My…

I'm working my way off my plateau (2.8 alcohol equivalents). Yesterday was AF (3/19) "...and I didn't die or anything." (credit: @dawnbgethealthy). Right now I'm drinking the unsweetened ginger beer/cranberry juice mocktail. It's good! Except I've forgotten who to credit :(.

Looks as if this is going to work for now. First things first, still drinking daily and still sitting on the proverbial plateau of 2 cans of brut bubbles :# Why won't I jump off? I think one of the issues is that I don't feel like crap the next morning. The calories (500ish) is another story. Not to mention the long term…

Good Monday morning Less Alcohol people! Has the MFP server been down for anyone else? Every time I tried to log on over the weekend I kept getting an error message :#
-
Drink equivalents yesterday: 4.2 Jumped off the plateau and then hopped right back on. :# (That second can of brut bubbles sure does taste good.) On the plus side I'm on food diary Day 38. I did not set any goals other than just keeping track. Now I see clearly where the calories are coming from, even the non-alcohol ones.…

A couple of days ago I started using the NIAAA alcohol content calculator (NIAAA.com). I input the ABV of what I am drinking, the quantity in ounces or mls, and "Voila!" it spits out an 'alchohol equivalent'. So all drinks, regardless of content, are standardized for comparison. Yesterday I had 4.2 equivalents, today it…

I've been mulling over what I wrote yesterday evening re: unable to get off a plateau. Prescient post above @globalhiker. You are correct. If current methodology is not working, then change it. I went back to your post on April 28. You listed 14 behavior changes that worked for you on this journey. You have credibility…

11 May check-in: 2 more cans of 10% brut bubbles. Can't seem to get off this plateau. 375ml X 2 at 10% ABV = 4.2 standard alcohol equivalents (NIAAA calculator). Hmmm, sounds like a lot when you put it that way. Of course, I used to drink a bottle (750ml) of 14% Chardonnay which = 5.8 alcohol equivalents. So maybe I am…

Two cans of 10% brut bubbles. AF 2/10.
