  • I agree with this. I never counted calories before but had done low carb, Atkins and some other celebrity diets. I would lose usually (up until the last few years when those things DID NOT WORK), but then I'd gain it back once I "got off the diet." There were no plans for maintenance. My weight ballooned in the last 6…
  • Well, if one actually BURNS 800 calories, they definitely need to eat at least half of those back. When I was losing 2 lbs. per week I ate back all my exercise calories (and still do) but it was very important then. I had the fat reserves to lose the 2 lbs. but I had a deficit of 1000 calories. I was eating between…
  • I eat all of my exercise calories. So far I've lost 37 lbs. doing so. Whenever I don't I usually end up overeating the next day or later in the week. I usually do not exercise on machines. The calorie burns on MFP seem to be accurate for me.
  • If intuitive eating worked for you, you wouldn't need to lose 39 lbs. That's the bottom line. You can "guess" at how much you need to eat or you can track and have a more accurate idea.
  • I think the calories for Chipotle are reasonable for what you get. It's not just the meat and beans, it's the cheese. Cheese has a LOT of calories for a small amount of food.
  • The Cheesecake Factory portions are out of control. 1 dish is enough for 3 people. Even when I was at my heaviest weight and ate at the CF I thought their portions were humongous!
  • How "former" are you if you are only 20? And ballet unfortunately has an issue with unrealistic body image and some of the dancers develop eating disorders. 700 calories a day at that age and also running and/or exercising and dancing is not healthy.
  • Well it works for you. The OP started this thread because they were spending $180 per month at Starbucks and they want to stop or at most spend $25 per month. They wrote that.
  • Starbucks coffee s not good. But the OP is not even drinking coffee it seems. I'm curious where you live that a Starbucks coffee cup is such big status. We have a Starbucks on every corner, and as someone who loves GOOD coffee, a Starbucks cup signals to me someone who likes milkshakes and wastes money. I do understand the…
  • Another thing, have you reset your settings since you lost weight? You should reset every 5-10 lbs. Because your body will need less calories as you lose weight. You should read some of the stickies so that you can better understand the cico and weight loss process. Otherwise if you ever stop logging you will gain since…
  • I hope this "friend" treated you (paid for your meal) every time she "forced" you to eat with her. Doesn't sound like a friend at all. Is this what they mean by a "frenemy"? With friends like that... if she didn't even buy your food that is crazy!
  • I love them. I have never had them in the USA though, and ate them fresh in Brazil, mostly in salads and other local dishes.
  • Also think about the health gains. What made me start losing weight was that my stats were not good--my blood sugar was borderline, almost pre-diabetic, my cholesterol was high. I had been very active up until about 5 years ago and I was turning into a couch potato! I couldn't walk up or down stairs without my knees…
  • I'm 52 and in March will be an entire year with no period so I think it means I'm done with menopause? I didn't have terrible symptoms. The worst was insomnia. I still don't sleep like I used to. I gained about 60 lbs. From age 46-51. I thought it was due to my stressful job (which I've been out of for 18 months). But…
  • I like Lara mini bars. They are between 90-110 calories. They havelarger ones that are 200 calories but I found the minis are just right for me for a snack. I recently tried these crackers, cheese and meat snack things which have 310 calories. They are not cheap and have a lot of sodium but are a good mini meal on the go.…
  • I've lost 37 lbs. Since July 2017. I started at 237 and am now 200. I have 63 lbs. To go. I started with losing 2lbs. Per week. I was fine with that for the first 25 lbs. Then my calorie allotment reached 1200. I did that for four days! Could not sustain that. I'm eating 1610 now plus exercise calories to lose 1 lb. per…
  • A chocolate chip cookie! I ate one at Panera as a treat and it was 380 calories! More than either the 1/2 salad or the sandwich I ordered. Baked goods in general are off the charts-- 500 calories for a muffin.
  • Just say "thank you" or nod. Let them have their moment if "expert", ignore their advice in your mind, and move on to the next topic.
  • Agree with this. I had bought some flour tortillas last week--these were the SMALL ones. And one of those is 90 calories!! I would rather eat an apple or banana, or some vegetables. Because who can eat just ONE small tortilla? If you make a taco or enchilada you are going to want two. That's 180 calories right there…
  • I've lost weight on lo carb, however this was before MFP. I did not know how many calories I was eating. So when I started eating carbs again I gained because I was eating too many calories, not because it was "carbs" that I was eating. I'm currently eating everything (except for diary since I'm lactose intolerant) and…
  • If you aren't allergic, nuts or nut butter are an easy way to get extra calories (and fast!). No preparation required.
  • Is yours battery operated? I noticed that the battery icon was not fully charged on the screen and I ordered some new batteries. It hadn't yet died but it was acting weird. I changed the battery today and the battery icon is still not full but it is working faster and better now.
  • Well they aren't useless for the person who made them! I knew that there was no reference but I was lazy. I didn't realize it would be "that" off. I think that a lot of newbies don't realize that they are user generated and believe that they are "correct." Whenever I make a recipe or add a food I do NOT add it to the…
  • I have one but I hadn't been using it for everything. Today I weighed a banana (unpeeled) for the first time. This was an average size banana (definitely have eaten bigger and smaller ones) and it was 40 calories more (once I weighed it and took the USDA value) than the banana that is "medium" in the database. So for 6…
  • Initially it was just tracking my food and calories. I had NO idea how much I was eating. I was eating double what I should have. It was very easy for me to cut back because I ate so much that even cutting that in half (and having a 1000 calorie deficit) I was still eating enough to get by without hunger. The "extra" I had…
  • I weighed a banana for the first time, and it's about 40 calories more than what I have been logging for 6 months based on a random entry in the database. (I realize that bananas come in different sizes, so there may have been times when I ate a banana that was smaller or larger). This time I used the weight in grams and…
  • It's either weigh and log or be fat in my case. I've lost 35 lbs. (and I'm not that strict with weighing yet) but I log every day. Before that I was eating 2x what I should have been eating in terms of calories. It is shocking sometimes to see what a "serving" is and the calories in certain foods. Nuts for example--I used…
  • I think the saddest thing is the vanity sizing makes women feel better about themselves because it's a smaller number. We shouldn't be so tied to these numbers. Second, it is misleading. I don't blame vanity sizing for my overeating but if sizes had remained the same (like men) if I had reached a size "30" as opposed to a…
  • I use net and track daily. I know what exercise I will be doing so I plan ahead what to eat that day with the calories in mind. I eat back nearly all my exercise calories unless it's a day when iburn 800 or more--1-2 x per week-usually not that hungry or would need to eat out or high calorie to meet it. I usually eat back…
  • When I was 103 lbs. In 1980 I was a size 10 in juniors. In 1987 I was 115-125 lbs.and a size 4-8 in ladies. In 1990s I weighed between 130- 145 and wore a size 10-14 in ladies. I don't have them anymore but none of these outfits match up with today's sizing. They were all MUCH smaller. I was a size 12 about 10 years ago at…
