  • Pip So glad you're sending Bette to a good home, and it sounds like you'll get to see her again. With all those bumps and bruises, she definitely needs a safer place! :) Viv So glad to see you posting, was wondering how you were doing. Heather Your new fridge looks terrific. I've pulled my custom away from companies that…
  • Katie - popsicle sticks make a good splint as well - when you tape it to another finger, it tries to bend anytime that finger does and keeps it throbbing. Hope it's not broken! I am also whiny - my terrible, no-good, horrible very bad morning:* Heard a ping on my phone that means someone hit one of my cards at 7:30 a.m.…
  • KJ Stuff like that thrills me too, and we could use a couple owls. We have moles everywhere... They are good for the soil, though. :) Still thinking about you all in the fire/smoke zone. Slept half the weekend away, sent a message into the VA Team that I work with to see if the doc can call me. Still exhausted. Two weeks…
  • Betsy, so pleased with the news for your sister! Such a welcome relief after a tough time...
  • Happy birthday, Tracey! Hope it's grand...
  • Thinking of all you still that are threatened by fire and smoke. Heather Love those pots with the "ear" handles. Clearing out presents is always hard--I still had wedding presents that I took with me when I left my ex-husband, after 28 years! The fatigue really took hold yesterday--I slept more than 20 of the last 24…
  • @JustSomeEm The temptation is to ask what specifically triggered your gentle reminder, but thank you for it. We do try very hard to keep politics and religion off this thread, and hopefully, any slips were inadvertent. This place is a welcome break for us. Rori - So glad to see your post, and so pleased you're getting some…
  • I was shut off the site too, but able to get on now--could get here on my phone, but not my computer.
  • Morning, afternoon and evening, all, Beth - So happy your friend's prognosis is good! Rebecca - Your son is a terrific photographer, and Athena is the perfect subject. Heather - Sounds like lots of change in store. Don't forget to breathe (outside, where there's no dust!) Terri - Sounds like a lovely crafting area to come.…
  • Hmmm - says I'll live a healthy life until 90 to 91 years of age, and then kick over the traces at about 96. I'd be ok with that, except for the 5-6 years of unhealthiness... https://apps.goldensoncenter.uconn.edu/HLEC/
  • Vicki - So glad some progress is being made with the hives. Re: computers, the best way I've found is to go in expecting them to work. They can sense fear. :) Beth - Hoping for good outcomes for your friend. Those nights are exhausting, and leave you with a hangover the next day from the high tides of emotion. Re male…
  • Funny - Corey and I were talking about just that thing. Don't think we'd be nearly as happy as we are if we hadn't done what we chose the years previous. From living in a 5th wheel trailer, to living in a pull-behind, we weren't sad to see either one of them go when they went. Things are just... things. You have the…
  • Hugs and good thoughts for those in pain (Kate UK - so sorry about your wrist!), as well as those too close to the fires... Horribly stressful, even when it's only smoke. Spent the last couple days feeling like crap on a cracker and just had to stop pretty much everything, but feeling more myself today. Got back outside…
  • Barbara, It's a drum-type chipper/shredder--looks like something out of Willie Wonka and sounds like something out of Mad Max - a massive gas-powered thing that we bought used in the spring. Does a good job of mulching smaller branches - anything larger than shovel-handle size is a struggle, but we mulch leaves in it as…
  • It's odd you would say that, Rebecca and Betsy--last night, as I put on my pajama top, and my head emerged from it, I say my mother in the mirror... to the point where I said, "Hi, Mama." I see her more and more in me, as well, both in looks and outlook, and I like it. If I ever see my maternal grandmother, I'll have to…
  • Barbara - so glad Joe's procedure is done, hope the healing proceeds carefully and successfully. We turn most of the branches we take down into mulch for the orchard and the flower beds, but we do burn quite a bit. The washer's in motion with Corey's work clothes while he sleeps in, bless him. He didn't get home last night…
  • Heather - your grands look healthy and growing like weeds! Figured I'd throw mine in the mix. My Levi sighting from this morning first, he's eight months old on Sunday, already growing out of 12-month-size clothes, and my daughter says you can practically see him grow from one day to the next. She's already buying…
  • Yardwork - brush cutting today - 121 minutes/711 cals Here's what I'm talking about when I say brush cutting - that boxwood in the center is about 25-30 feet tall - all the brush on the ground is branches or trash trees that have grown up in the little grove, and I spent two hours chainsawing or using pruners to get all of…
  • Barbara Thinking of you and Joe, hope all is well and that the procedure is successful. Kim Hope your mom's procedure also goes well. So glad the fires are under more control. Sounds like you've got a heatwave on its way for the weekend, hope it's cooler in your neck of the woods than in the rest of California. Those…
  • Vicki - HUGS BACK! So glad there's some relief for you! PIp - I liked all but the last one. :) Finally got my call back from the VA doc. Come to find out the doc that did my scopes last year never sent the results to the VA. They're scrambling to get those results to see if there is anything in that diagnosis that could…
  • Elliptical - 71 mins/378 cals Yardwork - 99 mins/629 cals I have not had a truly physical job since I was 14, have worked in offices of some sort or other since 18. I have never spent 90 days working hard outside, ever. There is so much unexpected joy in this! Seriously, if you had told me a year ago that I would take…
  • Rebecca I LOVED Yellowstone, but then, I do enjoy watching Kevin Costner do... well, anything. The series is pretty intense, but it's easy to get involved in the characters. Tracey My best friend and I don't know the exact date we met, either, and get confused when we try to go back and figure it out, but I was somewhere…
  • Karen, thank you, I have tried most things that I can think of, which has gotten weirdly creative. Yesterday just got to me. As you said, tired and fed up. Rita - My suspicions are some form of IBD, and the run up to actually getting a diagnosis always seems to involve a lengthy number of visits to doctors without results.…
  • There are days when it feels like a deal with the devil, but oddly enough, this isn't one--I don't think this has anything to do with gastric bypass. I mentioned it in passing because acid is not present in my stomach, not because I think the current issues are because of the surgery.
  • Faye - I had a gastric bypass 15 years ago, and yes, along with the colonoscopy, they also scoped my stomach. I don't actually have acid in my remaining small stomach, it enters the system further down the digestive tract from the remnant. Thanks for the question, though.
