Yes, I had to see who wasn't creeping on me.

I am a strength guy. I really enjoy lifting heavy weights and trying to hit new PR's. I usually start my day with some Olympic lifts, and then move into multi-joint exercises focusing on upper/lower body push-pull movements. I also occasionally do crossfit-style circuits following the same general format with lighter…

Good luck to all of you!

Follow up question: What are the crossfit standards for the workouts done "for calories" I tried to find out and struck out. Do you set up the cardio machine to your individual weight? Most cardio equipment default to a weight of 150lbs. I weigh 230lbs, so I will burn the goal number of calories much quicker than the…

It looks like you have gotten some good advice already but I will add.... I could be wrong, but I believe that MFP sets your calorie goal based on your weight loss/gain goal so it is likely that MFP has automatically set your calorie goal to be at a deficit if you have a weight loss goal. This means that even if you "break…

I am on about everyday, I post regularly, and occasionally blog with helpful advice. Feel Free to add me.

I want 1000 friends, I don't have that many. Why aren't we friends?

Add me, I want friends!

I have to say I am very pleased with all of these responses, even those who are not so in favor of fanny packs. I can't say I didn't expect it.

I do not have enough friends!

Probably not entirely worthless but close to it. I generally tell beginners 2x/week dividing your workouts into pushing and pulling exercise (overhead press/lat pulldown, squats/RDL's) as a very basic example. Choose multi-joint exercises as these will hit the major muscle groups and give you the best "bang for your buck"…

I love this post, and I also love a good scented candle, especially in the fall and winter months. Vanilla is my favorite fragrance.

When working out, I use an armband, but it is kind of a pain to put on. I will also just leave it in my pocket from time to time if my workout allows for it.

I have tried eating clean on a few separate occasions and found it to be incredibly difficult. More power to those of you who can do it!

I am in! Waste of money, and full of empty calories. Interestingly enough many of the most successful people in the country do not drink, or so I have heard. Feel free to add me as a friend if you are looking for encouragement/support on this one!

I am trying to round up a posse to run metabolic diseases out of town. Who is with me!

Simply put yes, a "safe" amount of weight loss is about 2lbs/week however this depends a lot on the amount of weight you have to lose. 2lbs/week 52 weeks/year =110lbs lost. I agree calories appear a little low, but if you aren't getting hungry than its probably ok. If you are trying to get ready to go backpacking, I would…

I'll post again, slots are filling up quickly but I am still looking to add a few more people in my entourage ;). As previously mentioned, I will try to provide my loyal followers with the most science base information I can, keeping my opinion out of things as much as possible.

I would argue that running mechanics are 0% genetics. Running, like any skill, can be learned and executed proficiently with practice and good coaching, barring some sort of anomaly that does not allow for normal gait patterns, say a bony deformation or impaired neuromuscular functioning . There has been a lot of back and…

I worked out there one time several years ago, but group fitness classes are not really my thing. Its basically very high intensity cardio, while wearing a heart rate monitor with the goal of staying in a certain heart rate zone. Its probably great for weight loss, but I cannot imagine gaining a lot of strength with such a…

I prefer right away in the morning, its a great way to wake up. That being said I do feel like I can workout harder when I go later in the day, say mid afternoon.

I try to pick a time when there aren't a lot of people around because I want to do my thing without having to wait on others I like to get in and out. So.... I guess my biggest pet peeve is other people? Also people who only do bicep curls. People who spend 2 hours at the gym chatting and never break a sweat, whats the…

I would shy away from such exercises because twisting of the spine particularly when loaded, can cause degeneration of the inter-vertebral discs, not fun. The primary function of the abdominal muscles is spinal stabilization, so I would recommend training them as such (planks, anti-rotation exercises, landmines etc. all…

I want some friends! I don't always post, but when I do I try to post based on scientific evidence. Not just my opinion.

I enjoy bread, but I try to stick to whole grain whenever possible. I switched to whole grains about 10 years ago and I had noticeable changes in my physique just from that. Bread, buns, pasta, tortillas, all whole grain. Its slightly more expensive but I don't get the fancy stuff, so it certainly doesn't break the bank. I…

A "diet" should be sustainable, so unless you can do a ketogenic diet or any restrictive diet for that matter, for the long haul, its probably not good plan and will likely provide little to no benefit in the long run. The opinion of the dietitian I work with, and likely the opinion of most dietitians is that cutting a…
