What are your store options? Aldi and Costco are great low cost options. Deals stores/dollar stores are also great options to get low priced food. Frozen veggies are cheaper than fresh and actually retain their nutrients better than fresh that's been transported from out of state/country. Rice is a very inexpensive option…

Your friend has obviously never made homemade macaroni and cheese from scratch vs making a box of Kraft mac n cheese :p I use both regularly-some things like instant potatoes are way easier/faster/more convenient than making mashed potatoes from raw potatoes. Or things like homemade lasagna vs a Stouffers frozen lasagna,…

Like this idea (in the past I've experimented with vegetarian/Nutritarian etc), so I think I'll give it a whirl :) Need to shake things up now that spring is finally here and I'm coming out of hibernation lol. Picked up some produce this morning, along with tomato basil flat-bread and just made a 2 whole egg/3 white…

Just throwing this out there-have you had your D level checked? It's a very common deficiency and has symptoms like you're describing. It's a simple blood test and an easy fix (you can get an rx or an over the counter, high dose D3 supplement).

Many times, losing the extra weight is enough to improve cholesterol/glucose numbers, without having to do anything extra. I was a pre-diabetic before I lost 50lbs and now see normal numbers consistently. What I eat doesn't affect my numbers though, it's completely tied to my weight (I have over 5 years of data that shows…

This. Though I have found lower calorie options for a few things (diet coke instead of regular, light ranch instead of regular etc).

Can your doctor give you a referral to a dietician? It might be beneficial to have one walk along side you as you transition from the vlcd to something longer term.
-
I think the default is set to private. I don't track calories here so no point to unlocking it.
-
I've done IF in various form for years now and I always just eat whatever I feel like/have planned for my first meal of the day. Breakfast literally means 'break fast'. What form of IF are you doing op?

Did a brisk 1 mile walk this morning. Just starting to walk again, now that the snow has finally stopped (we've had bizarre spring weather so far this year!)

It's a process that can take several months (it took me about 6 months). You start adjusting your calorie intake up bit by bit, until you start holding steady and stop losing.
-
Also realize that you'll have a maintenance range, and not a set number you'll be staying at. Our weights fluctuate daily due to all sorts of thing so you'll need to take that into consideration. Most people have a 3lb-5lb range that they stay within after they transition into maintenance :)

Nothing wrong with restaurant food, you just need to fit your choices into your calorie goals. Pre-logging your day is a great way to do this, most restaurants have their foods nutritional info/calorie amounts on their websites. eta: one thing to watch out for when eating out is the calorie amounts in the…

If it's food you'd enjoy eating then I'd eat it-it's one day and won't do anything harmful in the scheme of things. But, if it's crappy food then I'd just pack a lunch and eat breakfast before you go. No sense in wasting calories on sub-par food!

You answered your own question. If you don't feel that keto is a long term, realistic and sustainable option for you then why bother? Nothing wrong with experimenting with different plans, but you should be focusing on trying ones that you think you may realistically enjoy doing for the next 50 years (or more). For what…

I strongly dislike the term 'lifestyle change'. I like my life just fine, and don't want to make any drastic changes to it :p For me that's just not realistic or sustainable. I did have to learn how CICO works though and then learn how to apply it to the area in my life that involves food. Today my maintenance plan is a…

Yep. When I hit my original goal weight I realized I wasn't where I wanted to be at, so I lost around 10 more pounds. I'm 5ft, 6 in and like how I look at around 125lbs (original goal was 135lbs).
-
Have lost around 50lbs and I've now been in maintenance for a little over 5 years. Current bmi is 21.5 In excellent health by all the markers my doctor uses; twice a year blood work puts my total cholesterol in the 160s, glucose in the 80s etc. I drink several cans of diet coke a day :) Eta to answer questions- I eat all…

You may be thinking of cronometer.

It's good to remember that macros have different saety levels for everyone. I'm in maintenance and eat an asiago cheese bagel pretty much every day at around 500 calories per bagel/cream cheese. Actually right now I'm dealing with dental issues (root canal etc), and I've had a few days where I've eaten two bagels in one…

Love the idea of theme weeks!

I've been at this a long time now and I enjoy experimenting with different woes, but I go into each new plan still mindful of my calorie intake/stay within my weight management calorie targets. Nothing wrong with trying new things (especially if a woe introduces you to new foods you haven't tried yet!), but make sure you…

You will seriously be shocked once you start using one. I'm over 5 years into successful maintenance and I STILL use my food scale on a regular basis-it is so freakin' easy to underestimate portion sizes! Also, 250 calories burned for an exercise session seems a bit high. Fitness trackers are notorious for overestimating…

Fatigue can be caused by all sorts of things, including a vitamin D deficiency, anemia, IBS, thyroid issues etc etc etc. Have you had blood work done recently? I'd definitely have your D levels checked, iron etc.

This. The weight loss phase is a drop in the bucket, compared to the 20-40+ years we're facing for maintenance. Now is the time to be figuring out what's a realistic and sustainable method for you, Op, for the long term.

I added to my post (must have been typing when you were quoting lol). I googled it because I couldn't believe he'd actually be promoting this, very sad to see that he is :(
-
I used Mosley's 5:2IF plan for part of my weight loss phase and had always thought he was pretty solid, but I just lost all respect for him if this is what he's currently promoting. eta: I couldn't believe he'd actually be pushing this so I just googled, wow has he gone off the deep end-makes me so angry! Shame on him for…

Was this a registered dietician? They gave you incorrect advice.
-
Sounds like you're trying to do 5:2IF, but incorrectly. The plan calls for two, non-consecutive low calorie days, (500 calories), with the other 5 days being at MAINTENANCE calories (or close to it). Doing two low calorie days and then doing restricted calories on the other 5 days is a really bad idea.

Because I get bloodwork done twice a year and all my health markers are excellent, while still eating takeaway food on a regular basis (2-3 times a week). I've also been maintaing a largish weight loss for years now, and keep my bmi in the 20-21 range while eating takeaway food, no problem. I focus first on keeping within…
