I love that message, "I may have one more drunk in me but maybe no more sobers" It can be like playing Russian Roulette trying to moderate after realizing there's a definite alcohol problem, and that message highlights the danger. Like I've said before, for ME; I wanted to stop drinking before I couldn't...before it was no…

I took my youngest grandson to see Aladdin at the theater last eve and they now sell ALCOHOL...really?? The province I live in has passed legislation to sell alcohol in convenience/grocery stores also. The convenience store in my small town has sold alcohol for years, but it is affiliated with the Liquor Control Board of…

Welcome! Very helpful to know your triggers and have a plan or two on how to cope without alcohol in those situations. You will find lots of support & acceptance that will help you on your AF journey. You can do this!! :)

If you search Keto it will give you a ton of suggestions/recipes for meals...there are even keto beginner meal plans etc...YouTube also has all kinds of coaching for eg Dr Berry or Dr. Berg. Sounds like you need to do some research for Keto basics to get started.

GOOD MORN: I received an email from Kate at The Sober School this morn entitled "How to Stay Sober At A Wedding. Of course it can be applied to bbqs and all the other seasonal events...it's worth a read if anyone is anticipating the summer season of temptations to drink. One line that I want to share is this, "Culturally,…

Welcome @D_squareG !! YES, alcohol is a definite contributor to weight gain especially for those of us who are foodies...coupled with "blindly eating" after drinking that some of us have had an issue with. Plus alcohol metabolizes first before calories from food & like you mentioned the eXtra calories on top of it all. I…

@donimfp Br-r-r-r-r-r!! Chillsville!! Hope your chilly dip was healing for you. <3 I can imagine you will need some downtime to process all the emotions from your stressful job, almost like withdrawal. I'm sure the kids will miss you too. The thread has been quiet the past few days. I'm hoping it's because everyone is…

GOOD MORN B) There is this yellow thing in the sky this morn...I may need these B) hopefully!!! I am off to have some FUN today...YAY me! That is the one thing that is kinda lacking in my life...partly because after working and general busy-ness there is little left-over energy and a general lack of desire to do much else.…

The sun is making an appearance through the cloudy overcast sky this morn and hopefully will stick around for the day...or at least part of it! Hoping the sun is shining in other parts of the world for any here who need the brightness today. Have a great AF day! B) And hopefully we will ALL need these B)

Ditto! I wasn't offended by anything you said & would love you to continue contributing here, but you need to do what you need to do & take a break if that's helpful. I can't remember who, a page or so back, commented on trying to get our point across and it being lost in translation from our brain to our typing it…

@whitpauly YEP on the sour taste of others profiting from another's suffering...It's different to be compensated for time & effort helping someone else to get healthier. I have no issue with that, but some of the fees these guys charge for their courses seems steep to me and then the solicitation for more & more $$$ just…

YES!! It Makes perfect sense!! @Whitpauly I agree with you on the relapse definition...a slip is a slip and then back on track...a relapse is different in that it is a behavioral pattern trying to take hold again which is much harder to control once some time goes by as you said and we start feeding alcohol to the part of…

Today officially marks the last day in 2018 that I had a drink. Tomorrow is my one year Sober-versary. I remember waiting a couple of days to install my quit drinking app on my phone & input June 1, 2018 as my official first day of being AF, so I can celebrate again when my phone blows the bells & whistles in a couple of…

<3 HOME SWEET HOME <3 I got the dates of their arrival mixed up & am SO glad I texted to find out when they were due back cause I was out a day....SO they arrive home around 9:00 this a.m. rather than tomorrow and I was able to come home last eve after letting my canine pal out for a final potty break and wee walk...a…

WELCOME :) to you both!! @janinemharris There is no "measly" on this thread. Any effort at resisting the pull of alcohol is a victory and there have been lots of victories here. Even coming to terms with the thought that a person "may" have a problem is a victory because it is the beginning of acknowledging a potential…

@JenT304 It must be hard for you with your daughter so far away. It's great to have Skype etc but not the same. Glad you had a great visit! <3

Good Morn to All <3 Back at my dog sitting digs for a few days. Hello @salleewins Good to hear from you!! <3 AND a reminder to me that @kevinrfletcher has been missing in action for a bit...although, perhaps he's away again. I cannot recall, but I'm vaguely thinking that.... I was writing an email this morn & my laptop…

@FeelinFooFoo YES, no beating yourself up, that will just create a spiral and you have done awesome. Focus on all the days you didn't drink, but more importantly it's good to focus on what you are learning through the AE. Like you said it begins with our thinking. Acceptance is the beginning of true change. SO glad that…

Having said the above about not counting days, my drinking app alerted me to another goal achieved 7500 hours sober...NOW when I think of it in those terms, that is A LOT of time to buy back and not waste slowly killing myself. The number of drinks I have passed is 1,272.4 and IF my liver could talk it would say something…

Craig Beck has a blurb on why he doesn't think it's a good idea to count days other than certain milestones such as 1st month, then 6 months then a year...something like that...or whatever system seems to work for us, but to focus too much on days sober becomes obsessive like you said and can be self-defeating. At the same…

@Sunshinelinzee The app I use is called EasyQuitDrinking

Hugs to all who are feeling blue!! Not sure what your weather is like in your part of the world, but ours is mostly overcast & rainy & cold...almost like Seasonal Affective Disorder in spring...one day of sun here & there doesn't count. This too shall pass..... @whitpauly it is interesting that you mentioned @salleewins…

GOOD MORNING!! Just had 4 days of a long weekend OFF...all 4 in a row YAY!! In spite of the cold, rainy weather for most of the weekend, it was a good rest. I slept off & on for most of the late afternoon yesterday, into evening and now am ready to begin my day. I'm at the end of my first phase of dog sitting and take her…

@NovusDies I suppose when you entitle your thread "Why 'YOU' should NEVER...." you are giving your own brand of advice & recommendation and doing exactly what you are accusing others of in promoting their ideas...perhaps if you had entitled your thread, "The reasons 'I' NEVER...." it may come across different....but then,…
