sorghum is very sweet, but very dark, is the best way I can describe it. Sort of similar to a dark molasses, but more “notes”, almost a savory sweetness. It can be an acquired taste

I’ve read your other posts. Utmost respect for where you’ve come from and where you’ve been lately, after your 10 mile hike to Granite Lake.

all my little pea brain hears is lalalala damn something else to keep up with lalalala macros are tough enough as it is. I guess if you’re a body builder or competing it might be valuable, but I’m just gonna cover my ears and carry on with what’s brung me to the dance.

hi Tony @anevesjfk how’s it going? You still hanging in there? Kudos to your fiance, it’s a journey, and I know even married almost forty years (😱), nagging each other about food choices and portions is a beyotch. Eye rolls, flashes of irritation, outright cries of “get off my kitten” . Yall hang in there, but remember,…

I hope this at least helps someone else. It took me an hour to put together , and OP never even came back. 😢

it depends. What @COGypsy says works for 95% or so of people. I am typically extremely active, and seldom sit for extended periods. So I might not get the NEAT burn (typical non-exercise daily movement-ie housecleaning, chasing kids, work related steps) but if I put myself down as sedentary or mildly active, which I…

how diet and exercise will only work for a few months before your body regulates and won't lose anymore weight. and this is absolute, utter nonsense. Ask any of the successful people here. Always tinkering up or down with my calories to stay in my preferred weight/size range, particularly during and after travel, which is…

I was obese. Every time I went to the doctor complaining of this pain or that, GERD, or fatigue, she would tell me “lose weight, it will help”, and she’d hand me a simple two page eating plan. I’d get in the car, wad it up angrily, and leave in a huff. Who was she to tell me I had a weight problem? (Body dysmorphia works…

sorta in the realm of @nossmf ’s comment, I’ve lost a lot of visceral fat. When I do supermans and floor bows, this is TMI, but my (name eludes me here…) “crotch bone” hurts because it has zero padding now and is pressed into the floor. Even the mat doesn’t help. Every lift and hold is bitter agony. Ditto for frog, which I…

snorting in , I dunno? Disillusionment? Disbelief? Apple put a recipe for “high protein chocolate muffins” in my feed. Cool! Maybe I can pick up some tips on ways to boost my (own recipe) pancakes. Opened the article, read the ingredients, scratched my head, scrolled down to the nutrition info. This recipe makes “12” which…

Weird suggestion, but does MFP keep signing you out, making you log back in and reverify that you’re human? I’ve noticed when I logged back in it now also gives me the option of using Google or Facebook to log back in. The option to use the actual password is easy to overlook. There’s been a few random reports of people…

What’s changed? What can you do to change what’s changed? For me, it was being forced into retirement unexpectedly. I was lost. But then I decided I still had a job, only Better Me was that job. Once I thought of it that way, made myself my own project, I was able to focus, strategize etc. Could you flip whatever’s…

Good for you, Erma! Us 62’s can do it! 💪🏻 Seriously, good for you for sticking with it and taking it at your own pace. I used to think of it in terms of bags of potatoes. You’ve lost six 5-pound bags so far Think about how it would feel to have that much “dead weight” still hanging around your waist! Much success in…

@pony4us I’m halfway thinking of throwing some berries or diced apples into my next Dutch baby and see if it still puffs. I adore custard and flan. Husband hates it. But I think we both like the Dutch baby texture better. But then again, Dutch baby with lemon curd……🤤 so many possibilities….

thanks so much for posting an update. I hope others take the time to see it and realize it takes time and patience to be successful, like you! Much continued success to you!

and beware of short term goals. What are you going to do if you haven’t lost exactly what you wanted in three months? Throw in the towel? Gain it all back? Or congratulate yourself for the 5,15, 20 pounds you’ve lost and say “hey, this hasn’t been so bad! I’ve learned so much this three months! What would I look like after…

It’s all relative. I calculated that before I started MFP, I was scarfing down 10,000 calories a day, and that was being kind. I started here at 58, sedentary, and obese, with a 1470 a day calorie goal. I actually found that manageable. ….but I had to put thought into it. I had to find easy substitutions (sweet balsamic…

saw a recipe for a “Fig Clafoutis” in a British magazine and it looked delish. Used thinly sliced apples and walnuts instead. It came out wet , soggy and disappointing. Picked up the recipe to review it, and realized what my bad eyes saw as “bake 20 minutes” actually read 30. So we ate a half baked clafoutis for breakfast.…

The High Anxiety Dog has had an upset tummy the past three days and nights. We’ve had quite a time of it. I took him out at 1 am and can’t get back to sleep. Why bother? He’ll be wanting to go back out shortly. To paraphrase Lady Macbeth, “Who would have thought the old man to have had so much kitten in him?” So I am up…

it’s like the dog biscuits I bought this morning. 2 bags for $30. They’ve gone up from 2 for $15 in about four months. “Gourmet” Dog cookies will be the next thing I don’t buy. Yikes! Spoiled little brat anyway.

🙄 sometimes that’s not a naughty word and doesn’t need to be kittened. Let’s try it this way. Offa’s Dike?

welcome to MfP @CAROLTYNE Oh, wow! That’s been on my bucket list, along with the Cornish coastal walk, Offa’s *kitten*, would love to do some the circuit in Nepal, and I read about great walks in both Japan and Slovakia (? It was around a lake, at the base of the mountains.) I’d also like to retrace Nancy Wake’s flight from…

good for you. But there’s a lot of transforming that can be done in 2025, too! I started September my first year, and was already down 30 by December, and more mobile. I learned that “I’ll start tomorrow/next Monday/New Year’s Day” just never happened. It was just starting period that worked. There are few instances in…

BTW @Jthanmyfitnesspal that’s a Waffle House marquis. Another fine local chain that exploded. You’ve got to try one if you get the chance. Their pecan waffles are next level, “hon”. (Everyone is “hon” at a Waffle House. I vaguely remember @AnnPT77 (?) expressed strong aversion to this a while back, so I’ll run and hide…

@Jthanmyfitnesspal I used to go all out for the holidays. If the buffet wasn’t groaning before serving, and the guests weren’t groaning after, it wasn’t a holiday. Counting calories has made me totally rethink. I’ll still bust out the Mac and cheese, biscuits, etc if a kid happens to be visiting but one is 2000 miles away…

This started two or three days ago. Dates are scrambled. I don’t know which date is which. The issue is also scrambling by 7-day averages, presumably because the app can’t tell when “today” is. I’ve already deleted several meals by accident trying to pre-log. I also can’t copy “dinner yesterday” to “lunch today”, again,…

roast turkey is about as “healthy” as it gets- low fat, low cal, high protein we do simple green beans A pan of roasted veggies wit balsamic and feta Potatoes mashed with low fat sour cream- instead of Mac and cheese, stir in shredded cheese and bake It becomes airy and light and satisfying. Much lower cal and fat than Mac…

there have been glitches in the past that have been fixed. If they could give us a timeline, that would be reassuring, though.

it’s a winner this morning: carrot cake protein pancakes, “frosted” with homemade labneh and a drizzle of sorghum syrup. And a side of bacon. 👍🏻

Yoga studio has an annual 20 in 30 Days Challenge. I started late. Leaving in a moment for #20, in 16 days. I’m the first one finished. Have kept up my usual workouts at the same time. I’m exhausted. But, I’ll get the mug. 👍🏻
