  • Maybe a different question to ask is...those of us who were obese, how would we have reacted or what would we have wanted to hear from someone who was trying to help?
  • I’ve had this conversation with my mother. I began it with “This is an uncomfortable subject but I want to discuss it with you because I’m worried that ignoring it just because it’s uncomfortable is really silly. Also, because I love you and am concerned about your health. Specifically, your doctor said ‘blah blah’ but…
  • Marin County native here. Spend summers in Plumas County at Almanor.
  • Your friends probably heard that sugar is the devil from an article on Facebook. Or they’ve heard that going low carb is the only way to lose weight. I’m not sayings don’t listen to your friends, but maybe take their weight loss tips with a grain of salt. Calories in < calories out.
  • That sounds....unpleasant.
  • Eat the entire thing. Problem solved. #sarcasm
  • Oh and green tea means nothing. It’s zero calories and delicious so by all means enjoy it! But it does nothing for weight loss. Eating healthier also doesn’t mean much. You can eat the cake as long as it fits into your calorie goal! Enjoy it!
  • You have a lot of emphasis on exercise but not enough on food. Pay closer attention to logging food accurately. Preferably weigh all of your food on a food scale instead of relying on the packaged calories like the above poster mentioned. Also, 2-3 weeks is not enough time to change your routine especially if you just…
  • This similar to blaming violence on video games. There isn’t a direct correlation. Plenty of countries outside of America have fast food and have obese people waddle around. Plenty of countries have little fast food and have obese people waddle around.
  • Yes because the only thing that matters in weight loss is being in a calorie deficit.
  • Strong Curves. Go purchase the book by the man you’ve been talking about previously. It’s like $25 USD. There are charts and pictures along with explanations.
  • Comparison is the thief of joy.
  • Maybe you just don’t like McD. I don’t. It isn’t filling to me. I feel frustrated at times when I save calories for a meal and it ends up tasting bad.
  • I’m with you right now. I am losing at a snails pace. It use to be really easy but now it’s very tough. I have to be at .5lb/week loss or else I am starving! I know that this isn’t what you want to hear but being at the same weight for two weeks is not a plateau (your weight gain during the holiday should be considered…
  • Increasing the amount of calories will not help with weight loss. Calories in < calories out. I suspect, as others on this thread, that you are eating more than you think. Or...you are retaining some water due to a new exercise regimen. How long have you been lifting? Is it a new thing? The amount of protein you eat and…
  • Cardio and HIIT will not burn fat for the OP if he is not in a calorie deficit.
  • It sounds about right. I’m 5’7” and sedentary (work from home). I followed MFPs calorie suggestions and lost 61lbs. I miss the days when I could eat 1700 and lose 1lb a week. Enjoy every calorie while you can.
  • What I do (which isn’t like a great method but it’s mine) is I do a quick 100 calorie add from M-F. Then, on Saturday I know I have an extra 500 calories to work with and I’ll go over my deficit by 500 calories. And then Sunday is just a normal at the deficit goal day.
  • Put your stats into MFP, find out how many calories to eat to lose 2-1lbs a week, buy a food scale, and then don’t exceed your daily calorie goal. That’s it. Endomorph or whatever means nothing.
  • You are eating more than you think. Purchase a food scale and weight everything for a week. Then come back and let us know what you find!
  • I don’t understand the correlation you’re making between what people perceive your weight is and how many calories you should consume to lose weight. If you consume too low of calories, like you say you are, you’re going to lose a lot of muscle. You may not think that’s important right now but it will be when your unable…
  • You could also see it as just skipping breakfast. I personally find that eating “clean” is pretty disordered. Food is just food, it’s not dirty or wrong. It’s just an object.
  • The above advice is spot on and is very important! Also, I’ve found since I’m experiencing this right now, I am so so so so hungry if I have my calories set to 1 to 1.5lbs a week. Just experiment with it yourself. It’s very hard to maintain the lighter you get.
  • When I was larger, the whooshes were larger. Now that I’m thinner, the whooshes aren’t as large, not even sure I’d call them whooshes anymore. Basically I only see the scale go down once a week. An example from this week: Thurs: 165.5 Fri:165 Sat: 166 Sun: 165.5 Mon: 164 (yay a loss!) Tues: 165.5 Wed: 166
  • I think you might need to change some expectations. You’ve lost 7lbs so far! That’s awesome and you’re losing about 1.5lbs a week. You should be excited about that.
  • I use a bottled marinade that is 50 cals per 2 tbsps (25g grams). So I put my bag of meat on the scale, tare it. Then measure 25g of marinade. Put it in the frig. Take bag out and take out meat to cook. Put meatless bag on the scale. Tare the scale. Pour out marinade, put empty bag back on the scale and then I subtract 25g…

  • I’m not a big fan of trying to look like a certain person. But I do follow people based on my goal. When I was losing a lot, I followed a lot of those transformation pages. But got bored with all the phony product ads. Right now I am working on my glutes so I follow Bret Contreras and look at his Instagram stories where we…
  • Lol not too long ago the average diet was a steak, whiskey, and 1 pack of cigarettes a day.
  • 380 calories? I’d eat ice cream or a grilled cheese or avocado toast. Or maybe a hot chocolate. Peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
