  • My doctor just asked me why I drink 2 cups in the morning. I told her because I heard that it is good for you. She laughed and said it's hyp, that the caffeine makes you think something is improving. Then she said if I like the taste, switch to decaf. I did. It never helped with weight loss or my health in general.
  • Who says you have to discuss your weight loss/diet? It's pretty personal information to share with a "date" that you are just getting to know. If you are feeling self conscious about your food choices while on a date, instead of explaining yourself, be yourself, eat your meal, and if he asks or comments, give the short…
  • I found a fat free cottage cheese at the grocery store and it tastes just like regular 2% with the same consistency.
  • Are these interviews? or are they actual appointments to establish as a new patient with the doctor? If you are establishing as a new patient, have your records sent to the new doctor if their office hasn't requested it already. They will want/need that to follow up on what has been treatment for your diabetes anyway.…
  • Eggs and spinach are a good source of iron. Low/no fat Greek yogurt for protein and calcium. If you are successfully giving up salt, I assume you are reading ingredient labels to help eliminate salt from your diet, do the same with sugars. My doctor asked me to follow the MIND diet. It is low fat, low sugar and low fats.…
  • I used to be like you at night. I also ate dinner around 8pm on a regular basis. I loved sweet desserts of any kind, even a candybar was dessert to me. And baked goods like cookies or pie, I would definitely over eat. Counting and logging calories with MFP got me accountable. I started planning calories per meal to stay…
  • I wouldn't use butter at all and replace sour cream with non-fat plain greek yogurt. Stir the yogurt, don't let it separate, the watery stuff has protein and should always be stirred back in and it has the consistency of sour cream as well as the taste. I also agree with the use of low to no sodium ingredients. It will…
  • I struggle with hunger before dinner, usually between 2-4pm. If I don't do something for it, I'll blow it too. I make a glass of ice water, if that doesn't do it I eat a tblsp of Adams peanut butter.. When available I'll eat a banana or some strawberries or cherrie tomatoes, and stop there. Then it's a discipline thing.…

  • That's a reasonable goal and doable. I've been on MFP since Oct 31, 2018 and have lost 11lbs. I have started to watch my macros about 2 months ago, just learning the ins and outs of the site and a more accountable diet way. For me, not being in a rush to lose a ton of weight right away has been good and a new mind set.

  • "I should have bitten the bullet last time, or the time before. Any time since I realized this trigger might be a thing. This time I am trying to stay sugar free for good." This is true for me too. I also recently had to quit salt (Dr. ordered) and I dropped some pounds right away, probably water weight but still a good…
  • Good answers and good advice. I get "bingy" when I dont' get enough protein, I just want to eat! I start (lately) with a tablespoon of peanut butter and eat it slowly, trying to 'enjoy' it. I follow that up with water or tea and wait for the urge to pass. If it doesn't, I find something to do even if it's playing a card…

  • I buy no salt added canned goods when I can find them. I have greenbeans and also corn with no salt added. I haven't found canned tomatoes w/o salt yet but would like to. I read the labels too, on everything. I'm not a big 'foodie' so I can go without a particular food while I look for the salt-free version or learn to…
  • "While sodium is a component of salt, they are not one in the same. In fact, sodium is a mineral found naturally in almost all foods. That said, when it comes to health and nutrition, it’s important to pay attention to both salt and sodium." I went back and found this so I was wrong. If I am confusing others, I just joined…
  • Thanks for your support lemurcat2, I'm learning a new way of eating but it will be alright.
  • Thanks for all the comments. From the research I have done regarding this, salt and sodium are the same. My doctor said anything canned or pre-packaged will have salt. She doesn't want me using it in my cooking either. I took her to mean salt/sodium and salt was the word she used with me. I am using "salt free" spices and…
  • Thanks for the fast responses. I'll play with the food diary a little more and look for the raw egg. I will also try to go to the USDA database, it's not just eggs that I see this. I'm not too worried about naturally occurring sodium, just the added one, so was surprised at the high sodium count for an egg.
  • I was doing the same thing but not with WW. I was 'forced' to pay attention to portion control as well as calorie consumption. I learned that I can't accurately eyeball a portion. What I thought was normal to small was probably a double portion. The portion control got me back on a losing trend and I have begun to lose…
  • I am here because without accountability, logging food and staying within calorie limit, I will gain...rapidly. I am not young and do not resolve to have a 'beach' body, but I want to be comfortable and confident in myself. Now I also have health issues that can be controlled with diet, the MFP diary helps me with that a…
  • Being outside and not being cold! Riding my horse, gardening, kayaking, not dressing like an eskimo anymore.
  • I can't not eat cookies if they are in the house, so I don't have them in the house. I try to eat sweet fruit instead when I have a craving for baked treats, like strawberries or grapes, apple, orange/tangerine, stuff like that.
  • I rotate the same stuff, non-fat vanilla greek yogurt with chia seeds or two poached eggs and a banana, or an avocado or oatmeal. I try to have a protein with a fruit and am not a fussy eater, especially at breakfast, just get something down and be done.

  • Message boards can seem brutal and can be brutal in comments. There is a lack of 'feelings' a lot of the time, it can be intimidating and hurtful when you decide that comments are non-supportive. I used to react the same way until I decided not to take it so personally and grow a thicker skin. You got some really good…
  • I watch my macros and it has helped me to understand what I'm eating in regards to fat, sugar and salt. Now my doctor wants me to cut fats as much as possible because of high cholesterol so I am paying attention to that and I am always over on the fats! My doc said to go low fat as much as possible and quit butter. So now…
  • I have to log it to keep myself honest as well as visually see it after the fact. The calorie count is a real eye opener for me and actually helps me. I am pretty new here and my over the top calorie days are fewer and fewer, so I think logging it no matter what is actually helping.
  • Daily first thing after I use the potty, no clothes. It's consistent, works for me and by logging it keeps me accountable.
  • Thanks for the positive and informative responses, a consensus is always a good thing.

  • "I feel sluggish and fatigued" You didn't mention if you are doing HRT. If you aren't you should discuss this with your doctor, you are too young, just my opinion, to not have estrogen in your body. I had a total hysterectomy when I was 38 and was fatigued to the point of unable to do daily tasks. When we found a hormone…
  • I've been taking Levo for almost 2 years now, I take it as soon as I get up. My challenge is waiting to drink coffee! I see where you all are saying to wait one hour before coffee or food? My pharmacist told me 20-30 minutes before drinking coffee or eating. I'll have to ask my doctor (new one) when I go see him next week.

  • I went to cooks.com and found a recipe that didn't have salt. It is pretty much the same ingredients everyone listed here but gave amount of each to make a batch. I increased the chili powder and lessened the cumin for taste.
  • I chose a goal weight that would be comfortable to maintain and still look good. I am 62, weight 151 this morning,5'3" and want to be 135-138. I started this month and so far so good, I like the personal accountability of the food log.
