That is seriously one of the best threads on MFP :)

My favorite ranch dressing is 140 calories for 2 tbsp, which is a pitiful serving size. I still use it, but not every day like I used to (and I measure it out).

Back when I started my weight loss phase I switched from regular Coke to diet Coke. This cut out a significant amount of calories since I was drinking on average 3-20oz bottles a day. I'm now several years into maintaining a larger weight loss and I continue to drink 3-4 cans of diet soda a day. I also drink 1-2 cups of…

Just listened to them too, really enjoyed them!

My own little n=1: my mother is obese, maternal grandmother is morbidly obese/T2, maternal grandfather was obese/T2, uncles are overweight or obese/pre-diabetic, and the list goes on and on. I'm in my 40's and I have a current bmi of 22.8, and I'm the only one in my family who's reversed the progression of pre-diabetes.…

Just checked out her website, looks like really interesting stuff! Going to spend some time reading through it today, I'm curious to know her thoughts on the DASH diet, which is something I've dabbled in.

One food does not define your entire diet/way of eating, nor does it have a significant impact on your health. It's the overall context that matters-are you hitting your macros/micros (whatever you're aiming for), staying within your calorie targets etc. A couple slices of bread is nothing in the scheme of things, now if…

I LOVE my crockpot-I dump a bunch of frozen chicken breasts in on Monday and turn it on high for a few hours-gives me chicken for the week that I throw in everything (salads, rice bowls, stir-frys, eat it by itself etc). Sometimes I cook it with just salt and pepper, other times I'll dump in a bottle of bbq sauce or…

You might want to use the search feature, there's lots of posts about IF on here, and lots of members who do it in one form or another :)

I edited my post after you quoted it it, wanted to clarify that I'm actually very fond of the WFPB way of eating and have nothing negative to say about it, just be aware that some of the foods are actually pretty calorie dense and you'll need to be careful not to overeat on them (nuts and seeds I'm looking at you :p ).
-
How long have you eaten WFPB? I did it for over 2 years, and I was already in maintenance and I didn't lose any weight while following the woe. I actually had to be very careful with some of the WFPB items that I had added, because they were causing me to go over my calorie intake goals. One example- my daily green…

I've done WFPB and enjoy that way of eating. However, it's still easy to overeat on calories with this method-things like nuts, seeds, whole grains and beans can add up quickly in terms of calories. WFPB didn't do anything magical for me in terms of weight management.

Ouch! I buy it for one of my lactose intolerant kids and it's $2 for a half gallon and a gallon of cow's milk is between $2-$2.50 (Aldi prices).

Counting calories by itself, without making any adjustments to how many you're consuming, isn't going to do anything besides make you aware of how many you're eating. I'm not sure why you'd think this is an unpopular opinion?
-
But it's a process that does take time and rushing through it isn't going to actually help you figure things out. The FODMAP elimination protocol is 6-8 weeks, before a reintroduction process that's several more weeks, and there's a reason for this. I think we went back and forth a bit in another thread about this topic…

Um, that's part of being an adult. I prep meals for my family of 5 every single day.

It's JJ Smith's gimmick.

Actually, statistics show that most people regain the lost weight, regardless of what plan they follow-'fad' diet or not. There's no one way that's been proven to have any more success long term, over any of the other weight loss plans out there. And that includes arbitrarily cutting out a list of foods, like you've posted…

I drink a green smoothie every day and they don't kick-start anything, just an easy way to get in some veggies and fruit. Also, they can be calorie bombs depending on what you put in them-I can easily put together a 500 calorie smoothie.

I hear ya on the cost of the scratch test-we had to pay out of pocket for it twice (my husband and two of my kids have had it done, thankfully one time was covered because we had hit our deductible), and all said and done it ran about $700 (for one person). Could you talk to your regular doctor about starting an…

If you think you have legitimate food allergies/sensitivities than you really should be working with an allergist/your doctor. We have food allergies/intolerances in my family and the first step to figuring things out was doing the scratch test (allergist), and then from there doing the FODMAP elimination diet, which is…

Did ADF for my weight loss phase (alternated between maintenance level days and then very low calorie days, usually 3oo-400 calories). I used 5:2IF during the transition period between weight loss and maintenance, where I had 5 maintenance days a week, with two 500 calorie days mixed in. Since transitioning into…

Depends on how much and how you're preparing them, and if those fit within your calorie goals. I frequently will eat a large sweet potato for supper-I thinly slice it and sprinkle cinnamon sugar on top, cook until crisp and then dip in Hidden Valley ranch dressing. Pure awesomeness :#

Can I ask how long you've been researching IF? Because I've been involved in IF protocols for around 7 years now, and while it's been a helpful tool for me to manage my calorie intake, nothing about my experience or research of IF has led me to believe there's any significant benefits beyond that. (as a reference point I…

As someone who's several years into maintaining a large weight loss/better health markers, I have to say that the term 'lifestyle change' makes my eye twitch :p I didn't make any drastic changes to my life when I began losing weight (and I didn't exercise, add water or increase sleep during my weight loss phase either...).…

Carbs are lower in calories than fat (4 calories per gram vs 9 calories per gram). I have a carb heavy woe but haven't found the calories in the carbs food I eat to be an issue (beans, grains, veggies and fruit mostly)? I do have to be careful with things like butter, oil and full fat dairy though, since they're calorie…

If you started in July that works out to be right around a pound a week, which is the typical, recommended rate of loss for safe weight loss :)

I've been in maintenance for over 5 years now (went off track this year and gained a few pounds, but still at a very healthy weight even with the gain, with a current bmi of 22.8), and I've been on and off MFP during that time-really the forums get tedious and repetitive after a while and I can't imagine staying on here…
