  • I didn’t make it to the gym last week, but took my workout outside because our weather was awesome!! I walked 3 miles each evening in Waterfront Park. It’s so beautiful there. Connie in KY
  • Hi Susan - I’m also in Ky. You’ve come to the right place for support. The hardest thing to remember is honesty about recording what you eat. Maybe try to find 5 minutes at a time to walk 6 or 7 times a day and increase the time slowly. At my heaviest I was 274. I got down to 227, but my weight slowly increased over the…
  • It rained so hard tonight that my daughter and I decided it wasn’t safe to drive to the gym. I used my basement steps to do steps. Made it 15 minutes and I was DONE! Maybe I should have gone a bit slower. Connie in KY
  • Ginny a little story about a plank contest my family decided to have one Thanksgiving. First off, it was all fun and games. My ballerina daughter won, no contest. My sister wouldn’t give up and had consumed a large amount of wine. I started laughing so hard I couldn’t manage 10 seconds. The only person close to challenging…
  • I’m so sorry for your loss. I experienced two very early miscarriages on top of dealing with infertility. I chose to build my family by adoption. I turned to food too. I can do understand wanting to make healthy food choices as you prepare to try again.
  • My happy place - any place with music!! Our choir master is a fantastic organist/pianist, and I love to listen to him play. He sends me videos when he knows I’m stressed. I had a super night out with my mom. My mom had a mild stroke on Valentine’s Day. She’s done really well, but her physical therapist thought she might do…
  • Welcome to all the new members and those returning!!
  • I recently had a person ask me if I was losing weight because I was sick. Her logic - fat people don’t care about themselves so I must have a serious physical illness. I cried all day. I did, quite frankly, tell her I was busting my @$$ to lose weight. Her reply - I’m so surprised. Some people just don’t think and aren’t…
  • Machka - I’m seriously thinking about talking to my doctor about Effexor. I can’t do hormone replacement therapy because my mom had breast cancer 41 years ago and we don’t know the hormone status. Heaven knows I could use some mental assistance because I don’t want to get where I was last fall (a bag of Halloween candy…
  • So I looked back at the beginning of the month goals to see where I am now that we are almost half way through June. GW1 217 - Met this goal!! CW 215.8!!! Next stop - 196...and Onederland!! Getting away from the bad food at the end of May - yeah, I have, but I'm finding myself hungry at night. I need more protein in dinner…
  • Oh Rebecca - my dad was an alcoholic and my sister is an alcoholic. She would try to hide her empty bottles. She just didn't realize we could smell the empty bottles. I found 40 empties in her closet once. She owned a home with my mom. We are now in the process of buying her out. I'm not sure what will happen. My dad was a…
  • Pip-so sorry about Bullwinkle. Janetr- love the hair and glasses!! Great choices! Took a wonderful 3 mile walk on our Waterfront Park while my daughter was in dance class. The sun was still a little intense, but the breeze coming off the river made it just perfect! Connie in KY
  • I scan, but I also measure/weigh to make sure I am using the correct portion size. If the portion size is 1 slice of bread, but I eat two I have to remember to double the portion. Connie in KY
  • There is a very fine line between eating enough calories and eating too many. If you don't fuel your body, it will go into starvation mode and fight to keep everything you feed it. You won't see weight loss when that happens. If it is possible for you, I would ask your doctor to recommend a registered dietician. Amazingly,…
  • Viv UK - so sorry about your dad. Prayers for you and your mother. May light perpetual shine upon him. Rori - great news about the ankle and the smaller walking boot. You’re making progress. Pip - the cut looks much better, but the bruising is still pretty intense! Hard to imagine you are still exercising on it. Beautiful…
  • One week of June gone and I feel good about things. I’m losing about a pound and a half a week, and I’m comfortable with that. NSV-I finally have the stamina for the elliptical. First time I tried it in March, I lasted a minute and a half and had to quit. Now, 8 minutes sandwiched between 12 minutes on the treadmill, AND I…
  • Elton John is fabulous. I saw him in 1998 in Louisville. Definitely the best concert I’ve ever attended!! @drkatiebug great picture and I love your hair! @ginnytez I hear you about holding on to things too long. I didn’t have squat growing up, so I know I tend to be clingy. I’ve always been sad that my daughter only had…
  • @KetoneKaren - my nephew has had a yes, he does/no, he doesn’t diagnosis of Asperger’s for years. For the record, I’m pretty sure he does. I was in my late 30s when my therapist suggest I get evaluated. The decision for me was very borderline. I’ve since learned that girls seem to have better coping mechanisms because we…
  • A couple people suggested Al-Anon for my mom and me. I’ve been a member for a long time. My dad was an alcoholic. My mom probably isn’t ready for it. She would also have to go to the same group with me. I feel like that would be awkward. Mom is almost 81, had a mild stroke recently and can’t drive. She is also incredibly…
  • So I got back on track! I am a half pound shy of my GW1 of 217. Time to start really looking at that GW2!! Connie in KY
  • My daughter has one more day of school after today. She has stress so much over school this year. I really hate it for her. I just wish she would have a little more fun. The community college where I teach started summer semester this week. She's almost done, and I have 7 weeks to go after this. Weighed in today and…
  • I’m doing 1600 calories, low carb, low fat. I exercise nightly. I’ve lost 34 pounds since I switched to this. It was recommended by a dietician.
  • Sodium is the worst! I just don’t get why it’s in so much stuff. We really try to avoid processed food so we can decrease our sodium. Water retention I can deal with; what it does to my blood pressure is another story!
  • Thanks to everybody who congratulated me on my victory over the elliptical. It feels great and no blood sugar issues tonight when I exercised. I’m still not sure why it happened Friday night. Rori - Dementia is so difficult and heartbreaking. My uncle passed away in November from cancer, but he had struggled with dementia…
  • I had to go back and look at my May goals. I had really wanted to lose 50 lbs by today so I could tell anybody who asked at my friend’s wedding. I got derailed when my uncle died last week. We’ve had several family gatherings, and I’ve eaten some things I should have stayed away from. Ultimately, I’m down 49 lbs, and I’m…
  • May productivity - was doing awesome, but had a bit of a slow down at the end. I didn’t lose weight the last week, but I didn’t gain any either. I know what the problem is so I can right this wrong. May happy moment - the first time I tried the elliptical at the gym (about 2 weeks after I joined) I lasted about a minute…
  • Machka - I couldn’t manage without my cell phone calendar. It has everybody’s schedule. I leave notes everywhere!!
  • Several people have mentioned taking the thyroid meds on an empty stomach and waiting at least an hour to eat. Another important one to remember is to avoid calcium or foods high in calcium for at least 4 hours after meds. This one is really difficult for me as yogurt is one of my favorite breakfast foods. I end up having…
  • Lisa in AR - the pictures tonight on the national news were horrific. Way worse than what Louisville had last year, and that closed one interstate entrance and exit to/out of town. Prayers for all experiencing severe weather. Machka - I have cared for several family members post-stroke. Trying to wean from “prompts” is so…
  • I hear you. I had lost 40 pounds when a friend asked me if I was still going to the gym or did I give up on that. I just wanted to cry. Good advice somebody told me...it takes 4 weeks for you to notice weight change, 8 weeks for your family and close friends to notice, and 12 weeks for co-workers and acquaintances. I was…
