  • @heatherrorie Thanks for your kind words. I'm sure I'll figure it out. I'm having a hard time committing to a final decision about what to do, but a few phone calls tomorrow should help me figure it out. One way or another, the work needs to be done.
  • I've been holding at 207-208 for a week now, so it's time for a new mini-goal. I don't particularly like using weight as a goal, b/c my overall goal is 1 lb/week already. I think I need something that is about a 2 week goal, like averaging 3.2 mi/day for 12 of 14 days--starting today. I hope I remember to check back here…
  • Busy times and lots of folks struggle with conflict. Me too, but mines about a decision I have to make for me and my family. And I'm tired of being in a house that needs soooooo much work but is full of people and pets so I can't do anything to fix stuff. Well, I've decided that the fixing will commence regardless of who…
  • Busy folks on this thread. I'm enamoured of the puppies and hope we see a LOT of pics. Dawn, I'm sending hugs. One thing I've learned about being the friend who keeps things bottled up--people begin to assume you don't ever actually need them. I'm glad your folks seem to be doing ok and glad you are letting yourself be…
  • Dawn, you have symptoms of depression--are you ok? Maybe talk to your doc? I'm sorry it's so rough at such a rough time in general. I had a lovely walk with my daughter--well, she turned back after about 15 minutes but I kept going. Really perfect WI summer weather here today--so treasured. Coolish, sunny, breezy, and…
  • HickChic, I weigh daily too, and one of my first signs that I'm sliding is that I stop doing it. I have discovered that traveling (flights, different foods, etc.) generally gives me a sudden 7-10 lb gain which often resolves in 1-2 weeks to anywhere from the weight I was when I left to a 3 lb loss, depending on how much I…
  • Lots of updates. Thanks, folks. Dawn, tough choices and you are doing the best you can to respect their needs and your own. Loneliness is tough on a lot of folks. My mom is struggling and part of it is that she no longer remembers the visitor from a few minutes before. She really misses going out for lunch, for example,…
  • Dawn, my heart goes out to you. I've just been through something similar with my dad and he passed last November, at age 91. He was adamant about never going back to a hospital or using any heroic measures. CHF is a difficult thing to live with and he was just done. I spent as much time with my parents (in a different…
  • Looks like some folks are seeing some progress. Congrats. To those of you with health concerns, you have my sympathy. It makes things harder. Lana, I have no idea yet "how" we will go back. Things are pretty out of control here in Dane County. I'm glad we have a mask order and people seem to be observing it. That's…
  • Hi to all. We have had a lot of rain. I went for a walk with Skye and was soaked with sweat from the humidity, even though it was only 70F out; no rain at that time, either. I had a treat from my daughter and just haven't been hungry the rest of the day, so I am going to assume that was enough on top of my tuna salad…
  • Hi, all. I think I missed yesterday. I'm getting too careless about logging. I need to slow down all the useless stuff I'm filling my time with, and take time to log. I have not bought breakfast food yet this week, either, so I am letting myself get too hungry while waiting for a suitable time to call the first meal…
  • Sara, I have not seen young folks partying, but only b/c I'm never where I might see them :) The teens in herds on our local trail are enough to have me shaking my head. As a teacher, I know darn well that half or more of them told mom, "But I'm just meeting Becky, and we will be safe." Umhuh. I thought about taking pics…
  • Good morning, all. It's a pretty day here--not too humid, clear and high of 84 predicted. I got up and out early with the pups, did my jogging, had some coffee, and got a load of laundry ready to go. Haven't actually put the laundry in the machine yet, though. I've been frustrated with my own lack of…
  • So glad to hear you are doing what is healthy and sustainable, especially if you have already struggled with an eating disorder.
  • Hi. You've gotten some really good advice about calories. Have you considered some exercise during the pandemic? I'd really encourage you to start--and start SMALL, b/c you don't want to hurt yourself and have to start over again a month later. Look for threads on MFP about how to start exercising. The bottom line is that…
  • I thought she was saying that had been her practice before she got to where she is now. I am glad she's not undereating, either way, but if my assumption is wrong, it's quite possible someone else read it as I did.
  • If it was intentionally reported, my guess is that it was because you are eating under the minimum required to maintain health--1200 cal/day for women, 1500 for men. Eating under 1200--unless you've had bariatric surgery and/or are under a doctor's care--is a sign of an eating disorder. MFP strives to prevent posts that…
  • Not having to commute and having more flexibility in my work hours has allowed me to exercise more--more than I can probably sustain whenever I go back to a classroom, but great for now. I was able to add a 2nd walk to my usual workout of running and walking after work. I've enjoyed the time and love being home; I'm a…
  • You have lost lean muscle, and you need to get it back before you worry about losing any more weight. Muscle burns more calories, so losing it means you will not burn as much and will make it actually harder to lose now. Lots of protein, etc., as @kimny72 said. I hope you had a great time on that hike, and good luck…
  • I'm a teacher--many years as a history teacher, and now 10 years as a special ed teacher. I'm so glad someone already posted the update from the American Academy of Pediatricians and the NEA. The data from Europe and elsewhere is conclusive--reopening schools should only be attempted where community spread is already under…
  • I'm 61 and 210 today, 5'7-5'8 depending on who measures me (weird). I originally set my loss to 2 lbs/week and was just too hungry. I didn't know I was too hungry b/c I hadn't figured out yet what it means to be a little bit hungry occasionally. I think this has always been a problem in my attempts to lose weight. I set…
  • I've held at 210 all week and now my new mini-goal will be 208. Baby steps for me; I'm new to remembering I have a mini goal, and keeping it reasonable for me means something I won't forget while waiting to get there :# I can't remember where any of my bruises come from, either, but that's been true since I had my first…
  • Good morning. Dawn, my heart hurts for you, your dad, and your family. Prayers for all. Lana, thanks. I love that pic. Sara, I like getting out early to stores, too, even under normal circumstances. I pretty much hate all shopping, so the fewer people in my way, the better. It's frustrating if I time it slightly wrong and…
  • I have had a very busy day, with lots of walking and kayaking, and am now waiting for my kids to bring me some ice cream. I have the calories to spare and there is no junk food in the house. I've also taken ibuprofen so when I go to bed in a bit, I won't be bothered by a few sore, tired muscles. It was a lovely day after…
  • Hey, all. I get so busy doing nothing important. Yesterday I forgot to log my food. Well, at least most of the day. I think I got breakfast in. It's cooler and breezier here today, but humidity is still quite high. I got bored on my morning walk and switched it up a bit, and will walk the conservancy loop with Skye this…
  • 76 here at 7 am with dew point at 72. Hot and humid in WI isn't unusual in the summer, but it is usually only a few days here and there. We had that weather in june, which is unusual. So hoping for some relief soon. I try to walk between 6 and 7 am but slept in to 6:30. It' usually 5 or so degrees cooler before the sun is…
  • Hey to all. I'm exhausted from a long paddle tonight--my friend, her 4 year old, me, Skye, and members of a club we just joined. I'm gonna hurt tomorrow :) It was a tricky creek with lots of work getting around fallen trees, etc. Somehow the paddle back--upstream--seemed easier. I bought cheap, flat-bottom boats b/c I want…
  • Thanks, Lana. I'm encouraged. I feel really healthy and love the endurance and flexibility I'm regaining. I need to add some strength training, though, for multiple reasons, and I dread it. I hate lifting. I'm thinking of getting a farm to keep sheep to work with Skye *and* so I have to lift stuff a lot, and get stronger…
  • OMG, isn't that the truth, Sara? WI produce goes bad so quickly; it's worse in the winter but not good in the summer. I've noticed lately that even my organic spring mix faded quickly from fresh to . . . inedible.
  • Thanks for catching that. And I think the point about minor improvements is a good one; it does not take all that much to change weight in either direction.
