  • I think for most people, you have to just experiment a bit. Monitor both your weight loss (hopefully you are okay with regular weigh-ins), your energy level, hunger, and emotions (are you getting irritated, angry, sad, etc). Then you can figure out what number of calories works for your weight loss goal. Be sure that your…
  • Lots of great ideas here! We got the pull out display Oxo scale originally because we sold a lot on eBay and needed to weigh large packages. It comes in handy now for weighing food, but I love all the creative solutions.
  • Most of my smoothies have cocoa powder in them. I also like chocolate hummus, but only the one from Trader Joe's that isn't super sweet. However, I'll eat almost any chocolate candy and desserts!
  • I find edamame to be very filling. I eat Seapoint dried edamame (comes in a few flavors) lots of days. Also like the in-pod frozen ones that are microwaved. I also like Greek yogurt mixed with powdered peanut butter to dip apple slices in. Pears plus hummus is good. Or a small white or sweet potato microwaved with either…
  • Also a pescatarian. I get my protein from: Soy - tofu/tempeh/edamame Seitan Legumes, beans, seeds and nuts Commercial meat substitutes - especially Morningstar Farms, Gardein, Boca, Lightlife, Tofurkey, and Field Roast (I buy the traditional products from these companies, not the newer tastes like real meat versions)…
  • Our Oxo scale pulls out the display to allow for larger items. It looks like they still sell one like it (although the price is more than I paid 5 or so years ago).
  • If lactose is the only issue, I highly recommend ultra-filtered milk (Fairlife is one brand) over traditional lactose free. They remove some of the sugar (broken down lactose is significantly sweeter than lactose) which greatly improves the taste.
  • I had yule log for the first time last year at a holiday party. It was one of the best cakes I ever had! I totally want some cake, please.
  • So, it's about 50 calories per serving. Make your decision based on how accurately you normally log calories.
  • Getting tested is important. I live in the southern US with light skin. I was outside every day for at least an hour, and, as my dermatologist would tell you, lazy about sunscreen. I was having severe joint and muscle pain - to the point of being tested for autoimmune disorders. My doctor threw in a vitamin D test "just to…
  • I looked on their website and couldn't find the actual ingredient list. I've been noticing this issue a lot recently. With so many foods adding stevia now (I'm intolerant to stevia), ingredient lists are essential to me.
  • That is the exact cake I want for my upcoming birthday!
  • I would check the full list of ingredients on any plant based milk to verify that none are a no-no on low FODMAP. Taste wise, most unsweetened plain options should be fine. I've used both Silk Soy and Silk Cashew before with good success. Good luck to your son. Both my husband and adult son have IBS. My husband was…
  • Most days are smoothies. My favs are: PB chocolate banana with cauliflower Chocolate cherry kale Carrot, mango, ginger, & turmeric Other options are: Greek yogurt with granola and blueberries Cereal or oatmeal Bar if I'm in a hurry
  • I have found "I need you to have my back on this" a very effective way to get support rather than eye rolling from my spouse. Not just for calorie counting/weighing food, either. Happily married for 33 years.
  • What does your blood work show? I'm 5'3", 55, and maintaining at 120 to 122 lbs - pescatarian, but mostly vegetarian. I eat about 1700 calories a day with exercise calories, and still struggle with not continuing to lose in maintenance (weighed 118.6 lbs this morning). I only watch protein, making sure to get an average >…
  • I thought Orgain was okay - I used it all, but didn't buy it a second time. I mostly use Garden of Life plain (unflavored and unsweetened) to add to my smoothies. I have a couple flavored ones that I used while dieting, but I wouldn't really recommend them. I specifically was looking for lactose and stevia free because I…
  • My favorite fruit is also my favorite food - cherries! But, I don't think I've met a fruit that I didn't like.
  • You can try the Down Dog app for a few sessions to see if you like it. The subscription is pretty reasonable and sometimes they have discounts on it. You can set any time option you like. You can also select difficulty and area of focus. The only negative I find is that it can be a little choppy and not flowy enough. It's…
  • I wasn't planning to last year (my first year on MFP), but ended up doing a loose log. For example, I entered my stuffing recipe here and guessed it was about 6 servings. Turned out to be close (we ate it over 3 meals), although I probably ate less than 1/6 each time because my spouse takes larger servings than I usually…
  • Wait, was that me? That sounds like the kind of joke I would make! 😁
  • I would trust that the calories per 36 grams is accurate. I would also send the company an email saying the package had only 224 grams in it vs. whatever the front of the box says it should have. For 2 reasons: One, they might have an issue with the machine in the factory that packed the box and would like to know before…
  • Most likely frozen. That's pretty typical for frozen foods. With a little calculation, you can figure it out. Divide the total weight in grams on the front of the bag by 5. Is the answer about 84 grams each? (It won't be exact since it's "about" 5 servings.) What's the whole bag frozen weigh? Is it close to what the front…
  • Here's my info, which might be helpful. I'm 5'3" and 55. I'm in maintenance with a range of 120-122 lbs, but I tend towards the low end of that. I'm not particularly muscular. I have MFP set to the lowest activity level and let my Fitbit add all the calories for daily activity and exercise. I do this because my days vary a…
  • It will just be the two of us because we are super strict about covid-19 protocols. Also, our adult son dislikes any holiday with food as the focus so he usually begs off anyway. Faux turkey Fruit stuffing (cinnamon raisin bread and cranberries) Mashed potatoes Cranberry sauce Roasted asparagus Pumpkin pie
  • Most restaurant food. They just throw in extra fat and sugar (and salt, but that doesn't add calories) to make it taste "better". I actually prefer the versions I make at home with way more veggies and way less fat. Alcohol (which I can't have now due to GERD), but when I could, I almost always would pick spending those…
  • If you have Kroger, the Gardein soups are part of the "buy 5 save $5" current event (ends next Tuesday). I think they were about $1.70 when I got them last Friday. I've tried both of the chicken ones (wild rice and noodle). They are pretty high salt, which is fine with me, and I wish the chicken pieces were smaller, but…
