@jugar @conleywoods I would only mount from the right if it was more convenient to do so, but it always felt weird! I am no longer angry with myself, but the feeling didn't subside until after I'd been for a run on Tuesday evening. Normally I sleep things off, and after the workout on Monday I woke up angry on Tuesday so…

Thanks @jugar and @ashleycarole86. I was so angry (with myself) for most of yesterday, then went for a run in the evening and calmed down lol. At least my body knows how to run, though if I don't run then within a week I'll be injured from no-use. There's something about my lifestyle that my body doesn't like...…

I don't struggle with the exercise side of it, but this might be because I almost never run solo; I've usually arranged to meet a friend to go with. If I do have to go alone, I have them all on Strava so they'll know I skipped it - great for accountability. Food on the other hand.. When I'm stressed I'll snack on…

Happy Tuesday all. The bike ride sounds fab @ashleycarole86 even if you didn't get to see loads of wildlife. The weight lifting session didn't go to plan yesterday. I think I managed 5 (unloaded) squats which weren't entirely comfortable, then when I came to start the next set, my IT bands point blank said no. It's a long…

There was a lady who posted on the 'heavy lifting made me bulky' thread, who had an eating disorder and said lifting saved her life. She hasn't been on the forums since 2019 unfortunately and didn't go into detail so I'm not sure how helpful that will be.…

WW taught me a lot, but like a previous poster I had better success on the plan before they changed it so much. In the last couple of years I felt like I needed to get everything perfect, and became very 'all or nothing' with it - more often than not, it was nothing. I've taken what I've learnt from WW and created my own…

PW: 79.7 CW: 79 That feels like a good start to the week. I have a 4 day weekend starting on Friday so I think this week might drag a bit. Weights this evening, chicken fajitas for dinner, and I need to spend a bit of time in the garden as I let my tomato plants run riot and need to rectify that situation. I bought some…

Thanks for the encouraging words  Sunday is long walk day for us if we don't have plans that prevent it, and today we did a nearly flat 10.5 miles - longest walk so far this year. We did stop at a cafe for breakfast but skipped lunch. We managed to miss the weather, having had a couple of thunderstorms this…

Happy weekend all! I hope it's going well for everybody  Yesterday I played whack-a-mole with my mind virtually all day. The day wasn't going to plan, but my mind got caught up in all the negative parts (e.g. getting up at 6.30am SUCKED, rather than I got a run in before work) and wouldn't STFU about how I'd screwed…

@jugar I'll be honest... the recipes are in Keep because my husband does most of the cooking and if they weren't somewhere obvious, he'd either not find them or pick the wrong one lol. It's a good incentive to stay on top of it though - same reasoning behind the meal plan. The main issue with it for us is that you can't…

I did my first weights session in ~2 years last night and I sure know all about it today. It didn't go badly, but I have a lot of work to do on my form. I couldn't get the required depth on my squats, for example. It hasn't put me off, but it means I'll probably delay properly starting SL5x5, instead focusing on the…

Great advice, thanks all. I'll check out Squat University and put these tips into practise. I did a very brief warmup, but as it was 'just the bar' I definitely wasn't as thorough as I could have been, and I'd run this week rather than doing prehab. I remember now, that when I first started lifting, we'd spend say 45…

I think a doctor/physio appointment would be a good start. Your issues could be caused by muscle tension and weaknesses, but there could be more to them. I know for example that I use my abdominal muscles to protect my back when I lift, so when those muscles are weak, there's less support for my back and it's more effort…

Orange cordial in the office last week.. it was best before February 2021. I lived to tell the tale at least.

I'm sorry you guys are struggling with the heat - stay hydrated! I've lost the water weight from yesterday overnight - had to happen the day after weigh day of course. I think the next few months will be measured in which pair of jeans I'm wearing, as my comfy pair are starting to wear out between the thighs. My next…

I'm really big on being a 'good host' too, but I'm coming to realise that actually people don't care as much about having the option of three types of biscuit as I do about providing it. I may have an advantage in that I know the people who stay with us well, but I try to get just one kind of biscuit that I know is their…

I don't personally use medicine balls in my training, and I don't use the adjustable kettlebell I own much either. That said, I am all for space saving and items that can serve a dual purpose. The downside I could see in a commercial gym is that you effectively have two pieces of equipment tied up by one person, so I think…

I don't get annoyed because I know my friends and family mean well, but they aren't pushy either. I like 'thanks, I'll look into that' as a neutral response. Whether I actually look into it depends on whether I think it could be beneficial to me. If it's coming from a negative place, I have no issues with telling somebody…

PW: 79.9 CW: 79.7 I had a huge gain overnight - water retention from the challenging walk and some salty food I should think, but still frustrating; more so because it's weigh day!

Hey everyone! I'm Katie from England where I live with my husband and our two cats. I'm now 33 but gained most of my weight in my early 20s and have struggled to lose it since. Last year I used stress/not going out as an excuse to comfort eat and got back to my heaviest weight. This year I put together a sustainable plan,…

@MandiSaysHey I used to do that exact thing with the snack drawer, but now it's all hot desks. We used to have a small 'tuck shop' with crisps, choccy bars and there was always a free fruit bowl, but that's all gone with Covid. A normal day for me has 3x meals and 3x snacks, so I took 1 meal and 2 snacks into work. It was…

Friday's here at last. This has felt like a long week and it's been a stressful one. I start 24/7 on call tonight, so went into the office yesterday to pick up a new dual-sim work phone. Unfortunately it doesn't solve my issue, which is that I wanted to avoid carrying two phones around, unless I switch fully from my…

Happy Wednesday all! I was very stressed yesterday for several reasons which seemed to just keep coming. I didn't make any bad food choices yesterday and I can tell that I won't today either, but I didn't enjoy how I was feeling or the physical effects of it, particularly knowing much of the stress was an overreaction. A…

I have a tendency to plan for perfection, fall flat on my face and quit. This time around I decided to make small changes so that I could form new habits and gradually change my lifestyle to something I personally consider healthier. You can read about my plan in my blog, but the short version is I track religiously, try…

Like you OP, I don't want to sacrifice cardio - in my case running - for lifting. I run for my mental health and it's also the majority of my social life currently, but I love the strong feeling I get from lifting. Giving up my personal training when we moved away two years ago is the only thing I regret about the move; I…

PW - 80.5 CW - 79.9 I had 79.4 yesterday! Still, a loss is a loss and I feel like I'm heading in the right direction again. I hope everyone had a good weekend. Our walk yesterday wasn't the longest but it felt quite challenging; a large portion was on a narrow (uneven) track where I was having to walk one foot in front of…

I hope everyone has had/is having a good day, and things improve soon for those under the weather. We've been for a nice meal this evening at a local restaurant. Wasn't planning on a starter but we were warned there was a bit of a wait in the kitchen and I had tomato & basil soup, then for main I had a sirloin steak. Both…

Thanks all. I'll start hunting fractional plates and a bench. Good point about the mirror @heybales, I will miss my PT correcting my form so will see if I can fit a mirror in somewhere. I have bumper plates and rubber matting, so worst case I just let go, but I don't expect to let myself get to that point. Never dropped…

@bowens1973 @Jugar recommended to me not to eat my exercise calories and I have to say, weight loss comes a lot easier when I don't. I'm not sure how accurate my Garmin is at figuring them out; I gather it's better at some exercises than others, but I've never done the maths. Occasionally I'll scoff them if I'm craving…

I third the recommendation to go to a running store where you can get gait analysis done. I wouldn't have bought my road trainers if I hadn't gone for gait analysis - they felt completely different to my trail shoes on the treadmill, but the store assistant was able to recommend them on the basis of what he could see. He…
