Well, peeps, can you believe that January is coming to a close? I haven't been updating this thread regularly with my progress, but wow! I have made such great progress this month. I feel as though all the little changes I've been making since July are starting to add up and build momentum. My goal for the month was to…

The fast lane! I love it. The other day I almost moved into the medium lane, as the slow lane was busy, but I chickened out... That will be a NSV when it happens. I hope you celebrate yours!

@TerriRichardson112 I saw "shiny sinks" in your list. Do you follow FLY Lady?

I've finished reading "Complete Guide to Fasting" by Jason Fung. I recommend it. It's factual but not dry and heavy. He includes a number of fasting regimens and encourages people to play around and find what works for them. He advises using bone broth to push through to stretch the time before eating. I guess it's called…

I find this idea of being more playful inspiring. I will often get to kind of a meditative state, just doing the strokes and breathing, and I really like that aspect of swimming. But sometimes getting in those last laps feels .... boring. Changing things up is the obvious solution that I somehow didn't see staring me in…

When I complete my food diary and MFP tells me what my weight might be like in 5 weeks if every day were like today, it is now often between 200 and 210. I know that one-derland is still 20-odd pounds away, but for some reason, just seeing those lower numbers has me fired up more than ever. I will get there!

That is incredible, wonderful news!! Congratulations!

Here's a blog post on it: https://blog.myfitnesspal.com/introducing-the-intermittent-fasting-tracker/

Yes, you can track your IF hours right in the diary, although it goes to a max of 24 hours. If you forget to start it, you can go in manually and adjust the time/date settings. You can also set what your goal is (up to 24 hours) and see how much time has elapsed to know whether you've hit that goal. If you're not seeing…

January, I don't know what's up with you, but I'll take it! I am firing on all cylinders. I encourage everyone who feels they are struggling to just keep going. The compound effects of all the lifestyle changes you're making take time to accrue, but when they do, you'll be feeling lighter, happier, more fit, more confident…

Intermittent fasting has shown amazing results for hormone regulation (and weight loss), among other benefits. That is based not just on anecdotal evidence but solid research. Many people find they can shorten their eating window over time, from 12 hours to 14 hours to 16, say, so that it doesn't feel onerous and they…

I have watched probably 50 YouTube videos on fasting! Glad to hear you like the 20:4. Today, after 20 hours, I wasn't even that hungry but ate a small dinner because it had been made for me. It's got me wondering if I could handle a protocol of 36-hour fasts three times a week.... I guess there's only one way to find out!

Just started reading "Complete Guide to Fasting" by Jason Fung. It's quite informative and inspiring.

That's me!! I have added that title to my library list. Thanks for the recommendation.

Ah, okay, I see. Like trying to push yourself to run one minute in between walking. I usually do my last two lengths as fast as I can, but I will play with how I can up the intensity from time to time. Good tip!

My fasting time will be shorter today. I ate something around 10 last night. I'd gone out for dinner at a family style place where you share little bits from lots of dishes, and I was just so hungry when I got home. Interesting how not eating my typical low carb, enough protein, enough fat supper affected my satiety. I…

What a terrific game plan! I need to think through the places I might falter and come up with strategies, as you have, to support myself through them.

Thank you for the tip! The Cape Cod sounds intriguing. I will remember that for next time...

AF for me at tonight's dinner out. My friends each had a cocktail and a glass of wine. Bonus: My portion of the bill was about $30 and theirs was $60.
-
That sounds interesting. I've just checked out Fung's book "Complete Guide to Fasting." I'm looking forward to the read.

I made it through last night's dinner out at a steak restaurant with water as everyone else had wine. I did not feel too deprived or tempted, so I'm hoping that tonight's dinner out is much the same. (I don't often go out to eat as it messes up my eating. Two dinners out in a row, and man, I find myself not that interested…

@pamiede You are on the right track and out of the 300's. Keep doing what you're doing!

I echo what everyone else has been saying. IF is so powerful -- and so easy once you have it established. Over the last year or so we've naturally moved from 14-hr fasting windows to 16 and, in the last few weeks, 18. Earlier this month I did my first 72-hr fast. When the time was up, I was not hungry, so I extended to the…

I am also in my early 50s and was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in my right hip a couple of years ago. Very hard to walk and to sleep, as I prefer sleeping on my side. Dietary changes have made a quantum difference for me, especially cutting out sugar and gluten. I don't have any pain at all anymore unless I lie on my side…

I found that getting out of the house and DOING something really helped. Find a friend to go for a walk, or a swim, or yoga, or painting, or pottery, or whatever floats your boat. Many activities are low or no cost. By the time you get home, start winding down for bed. It's the perfect cure for the loneliness and boredom…

Kickboxing is fun! I am hoping to restart karate in Feb (I blew out my knee last year, and it's been a long recovery). My swim buddy and I signed up for a private lesson, and I'll be asking the coach about that flip turn! I am also going to buy myself a (cheapie) anklet as a reward for swimming regularly since September. I…

I've been doing the January challenge, which has been interesting. I started meditating in December by setting the timer for 1 minute. Can't say you don't have 1 minute to meditate. Now I'm at 2 minutes and plan to build slowly from there, so it never feels onerous. I will take a look at the morning meditations. I really…

Not sure this counts as NSV as it has to do with numbers, but yesterday when I finished my food diary, MFP calculated that if every day were like this one, in 5 weeks I'd be 197 lb. As in, UNDER 200 LB! As in, onederland!! (Yesterday was an anomaly because I went skiing, but still...)

Do you use Insight Timer? I've just discovered it and quite like it.

Thank you for sharing!
