Well, this Activity Feed doesn't seem to be working for me. Oh, Well!

  • @andysport1 I went to AA in the past (close to 20 years ago) in an area that I used to live. I was very bad off. There was a man named Virgil that would go around and pick people up and take them to meetings. He had picked me up and then drove to a VA facility to pick up some others. I was actually dry heaving in the back…
  • @mauricepaul I have the same problem. I'm trying very hard to quit. But I'm afraid to quit cold-turkey. Although I do have a very caring husband that's willing to help. On November 28th, 2021, I woke up and was vomiting blood. My husband called an ambulance. I had esophageal varices. I was in the ICU for a few days…
  • @Dianedoessmiles1 I don't think we're supposed to leave comments in the "Introduce Yourself" discussion. But I looked at your profile. Amazing weight loss! Also I realize you have some medical issues. But you seem pretty resilient. Good luck to you! By the way, we live on complete opposite ends of the country. Take care of…
  • @Dianedoessmiles1 I'm kind of new to this all. So I tried to delete some of my posts. Not sure if it worked or not. I hope not. I've having some problems right now and I was getting depressed that no one was replying to my posts. So thank you so much for replying. I know I shouldn't be relying on MFP. But I don't really…
  • Hi! My name is Darlene. I'm 66 years old. Although I've been told I look much younger. Recently, a couple of my high school friends came up to visit. I hadn't seen my friend Sue in over 20 years. When she got out of the car she said, "How did you get to be so old?". Then she said she had been planning on saying that the…
  • @kjamieson64and4 I haven't checked in for a couple of days. I hope you are still doing well with your sobriety. Don't worry if you slip. Just get back on the horse. I'm still struggling. I was doing really well for a while. But it's gotten back to the point that I'm drinking from the time I wake up to the time I go to bed.…
  • @sagosto2 In my experience, drinking does put on the weight. I regularly record my weight on MFP. And on my calendar, I mark the days I don't drink. When I quit drinking my weight goes down daily (usually about 1/2 pound a day). And when I'm drinking, it's just the opposite. When I go to "Reports" in MFP and look at my…
  • @meyersm2000 If you continue on your quest to quit drinking your blood work should come back to normal soon. I don't have my numbers available as I'm typing this. But in November 2021, my liver enzymes were extremely elevated. I completely stopped drinking at that time. I had to have hernia surgery a couple of months…
  • Hi All, I was in the ICU in November 2021. After that I started keeping my old calendars. I just went back and looked at those old calendars. In 2022, I had 124 alcohol-free days and in 2023, I had 106 AF days. Not great. But not bad for someone who had been drinking daily for most of their adult life. This year (2024), I…
  • @SparkSpringtime69 Well you may have been the "good girl", but it sounds like you ended up being "the problem child" too. *LOL* So it seems that you went four or five months without drinking also. I've been cutting back. I haven't had the shakes or major anxiety (pacing, etc). So, I do plan on quitting cold turkey in just…
  • @SparkSpringtime69 Good to hear from you. I agree we should just quit altogether. I went four months without drinking. And I felt great. I was very energetic and motivated. I have been through quite a bit in my adult life. But I had a wonderful childhood. I guess that's why I became "The Problem Child". I never hurt anyone…
  • @MeechK1095 PS...You mentioned that you wanted to stay fit. As a man you probably won't have as much trouble as I did. Just a couple of months ago, I started exercising. Pretty simple stuff, but I feel very effective. I was feeling really good. Then I started drinking daily again. I'm not sure what happened. But I can…
  • @MeechK1095 Hey Kid! Well I'm 66 so I think I should be able to call you kid. I hope you can be successful with your plan. But in my experience (for me), planning to just drink two days a week doesn't really work. About 35 years ago, I moved back in with my Mom. She didn't appreciate me hanging out in the garage drinking…
  • @lilith40 Thank you so much. Yes, one day at a time!
  • @SparkSpringtime69 I guess I have been using MFP chat forum as my support system. Besides my husband, I have no family where I live or any friends to speak of either (just acquittances) . Neither my husband or I are originally from this area. We were somewhat transplanted here. When I met my husband, I was living in…
  • Well, I guess those that I thought were part of my support team aren't coming back to this discussion. So, I guess I'm back on my own. Take care everyone!
  • @DietColaLola Yes I did figure out how to answer people *LOL*
  • @khahn72856 Are you just starting Day 1? For me, Day 1 is the hardest. But once I make it past Day 1 it's a piece of cake. Good luck!
  • What does LA stand for? I looked at the acronym list but did not see it. Thanks
  • I've been tapering off of whiskey for the past week. I've been doing pretty well. Yesterday I started drinking at 11am and drank 500ml. For the last couple of months (until now), I had been drinking 750-1000ml daily. What really messed me up was that I would have booze in the house when I went to bed. Thinking I didn't…
  • Hello everyone. Some of you know I have been trying to taper off of alcohol (whiskey is my choice). My husband has been helping me. But it didn't start out that way. A couple of weeks ago, I would wake up feeling really bad (anxious, pacing, etc). I would ask him to go to the liquor store at 9am when they opened. He would…
  • @SparkSpringtime69 Sorry it's taken me so long to reply. Thank you for your suggestions. The reason for the lack of access is because we live in a rural area. Plus I wouldn't want to go in to one those 28/30 day treatment programs. I had a friend that went that route in another (larger) town. I went to visit once and I…
  • @mrsmeteor I'm unable to get medical help where I live. A provider I once had (once it was realized that I had no medical options) advised me to taper off gradually. And if my BP was elevated or I had weird headaches to go to urgent care or the hospital. Thank you for your help and I'll see what I can do.
  • Hi All, For those of you that have quit, did you experience alcohol withdrawal symptoms? I want to quit really bad, but I am afraid of withdrawal symptoms. Any advice?
  • From my last post, people are going to think my husband is enabling me. But, that's not the case. I've been trying to taper off. That's the way I did it a couple of years ago. And, it worked well. I just reduced my intake by 25ml a day and started drinking a half an hour later each day. I'm not sure if I'm where I should…
  • @SparkSpringtime69 Congrats on the four days. If I can get past three, I hope to never drink again. It's been a bit rough for me this time. I think when we get a little older, it becomes more difficult. I'm still working on it. I've been trying to taper off. It's now Saturday. And, living where I live, our liquor stores…
  • @lilith40 I agree, I'm also happy to have found this group. I was doing really good. It's a long story, but I started drinking again. And, I'm having a bit of a problem quitting. Where I live and the insurance I have there really is no medical help for me. In 2020 and 2021, I kept going to the ED at the hospital. I know…
  • @SparkSpringtime69 Thank you for your help. I hope I did it right! I will keep you all posted.
  • Hi All, I keep coming back to this discussion because everyone gives me inspiration and it's nice to hear other people's stories. I don't usually use social media at all. So, I don't know how to reply specifically to a particular person or add someone as a friend (I'm a young 66 years old) :) Anyways, I still don't have…
  • Thank you Susan. I'm sorry it's taken so long for me to reply. I'm somewhat new to this stuff. And I am still drinking. I will do my best to taper off.
