Risotto! One of my favourite meals to eat on a Friday night to carb-load before a big hike the next day. I tried low carb a few years ago and my body just couldn't cope with intense exercise. My legs stopped working 3,000ft up a mountain one time. The only thing that got me down off a rock face was a can of Coke and a…

Oh enough with the "nourishing" mantra already. If the only purpose of food was nourishment then we should all just be popping pills or shakes to give us everything we need instead of eating real food. The reality is that most people actually enjoy eating. It is about more than just "nourishment" and it is perfectly easy…

Sounds like you've got a plan that you can stick with - that's great. Consistency can do amazing things :)

I am not knocking what you have done (well done, by the way!) but is it not possible that the reduction in belly fat is due to the extra exercise rather than the lowered carbs? By making both changes at once (carbs and exercise) I wouldn't have thought it would be possible to know which one caused the reduction in belly…

Only valid if the OP is gluten intolerant. She hasn't said she is and most people are not.

I'm also voting for what Newme13 has said. Calorie deficit = lower weight = smaller belly. Carbs do not magically turn into belly fat when you eat them - excess calories turn into fat all over when you eat them, irrespective of what food group they are made up of. As for some of the comments about going gluten free... why?…

Currently drinking a cold beer... I just make sure it fits with my calories, which usually means going for a big hike at the weekend so I can drink lots on Saturday night!

Well you're not trying hard enough then! You can't just lie back and think of England/[insert your country of choice here] and expect your partners to do all the work

Hmmmmm. I just click on My Topics regularly to see what updates have happened. The group I'm most active in would fill up my inbox in 10 mins if I got a notification every time as it gets rather busy. The thing I've found is that the general social groups get the most traffic. Doesn't matter what you are eating, what…

There's a spanking group? Why am I the last to know? Invites please!
-
And the minute you spent kindly replying is a minute of your life you will now never get back :(
-
You are taking that out of context! The responses were all along the lines of find other groups, find friends you have things in common with and deal with the lack of activity in the groups you have chosen that way. I can't for the life of me figure out why that has upset you.
-
Whoah! You've got some very nice responses here and proper advice and you are throwing it back in people's faces. Maybe your attitude comes over in the groups you are in too and that is why you are not getting much response? Just a thought.

Not semantics dear but whether or not a doctor has a basic understanding of human biology. Pretty important I think.

A doctor suggesting a healthier diet - yes. A doctor suggesting a “detox" or "cleansing" diet (as you said in an earlier post) - no. No doctor worth their salt will back up the notion that you can somehow "detox" your liver, unless you are in need of rehab.

I take it back, some doctors must be out to make money then.

But... if you do have a genetic issue such as familial hypercholesterolemia then medication is usually necessary. Anyone with a genuine problem should get advice from their clinician and not assume that diet and exercise will be enough. Half my family have died before 40 due to it despite being fit and skinny due to it.…

That's precise! If running followed by weights I do them on an empty stomach first thing in the morning then have a breakfast when I get back with protein and carbs (so something like scrambled egg or beans on toast). If hiking for several hours I usually have a bowl of muesli beforehand, whatever I want during the hike…

:flowerforyou: In a round about way, yes!

Interesting one, this. I hike most weeks for several hours and up a few thousand feet (usually involving lot of rock scrambles). I use an HRM and usually burn around 2,000 calories but, of course, this depends on age, weight, sex, inclines etc. While my heart rate does shoot up when climbing, I'm aware that some of this…

Why, exactly? It tastes nice and contains vitamin C but beyond that has no "cleansing" or "metabolism boosting" benefit, real or otherwise.

Wow. I've heard some tosh in my time but a global conspiracy by all clinicians to keep us unwell? :noway: Next you'll be talking about the Illuminati, New World Order and the X Files.

They do. My parents still drive but use public transport to get in and out of the city (Manchester) to get to the theatre etc. I also met a chap while running the other day who gets a bus to a neighbouring town then walks back home from that point to stay fit (he was having a flask of tea on a park bench when I ran past…

Make sure you claim back those calories!

Raw food diet, Master Cleansing, cardio with no weights, cutting out entire food groups and eating under 1200 calories a day  You will live long* but you will be miserable and hangry  *Disclaimer: Individual results may vary and have not been verified.
