  • I tried to get into that, I really couldn't. Does it pick up because I don't want to give up on it! I'm reading "The Great Gatsby" by Fitzgerald. I read it a decade ago and wanted to read it again before seeing the film.
  • Mid-morning/over lunchtime. I find I have more energy at that time, but will walk in the evenings normally.
  • Personally, I wouldn't go to the gym for two reasons. 1) You could easily pass on germs - your boyfriend is right. 2) You are more likely to push yourself further than you should whilst sick - I did this the other week and nearly passed out. My virus laid me out pretty much the entire week and I was only able to do two…
  • Does it work? Yes - again, it all comes down to mindset and tweaking the system to work for you. The "extra" points thing was a matter of huge debate when it first came out - some people lost loads making sure they ate them all, and some people gained eating them all, much like the debate about eating exercise calories…
  • If you factor in general walking to and from places that I don't track, I'd probably clock around 4 miles a day including 3 mile walks with my dogs. Generally speaking, if I'm not at the gym I will aim for around 5 miles a day. I think I average about 25 miles in a week but I'd like to do more!
  • I'd easily pack away 50 units a week, probably more given the money and the opportunity. I practically became intolerant to alcohol to the point where I could drink 1.5 bottles of wine and not be drunk but spinny and wake up with a hangover. It was a gradual decent into addiction and denial. In August last year I started…
  • I will be honest, and you will doubt it. It genuinely was for health. Actually, it wasn't for anything to begin with. The first 30lbs were lost by an inability to eat properly due to mental relapse, so I was eating a deficit (albeit not significantly). I started walking with my Mum's dogs to help her out, doing chores…
  • I have the reverse problem - my thighs/legs are reasonably toned but my stomach is the huge (literally) issue - I've lost 65lbs but my stomach, to me, looks exactly the same - it isn't I know, but all my weight sits there.

  • My experience: I have BPD (recently diagnosed after 20+ years) - it all links in now that I've thought about it properly. I was 14 - 1999, Spice Girls were famous and Victoria Beckham was getting crazy skinny. For some reason, I saw how applauded she was, her beautiful husband and life and I thought "I'll get me some of…
  • Thanks for the reply - I think that is very sound advice - providing I'm within the middle really then it's better than nothing at all! I've noticed I get to 163 and I know I have more in the tank, so I just go for it anyway!
  • OK, here is my two cent. If you do no exercise, you may eating the amount required for a deficit, therefore gaining weight. You said you tried different calorie values, but have you tried certain foods that make up that calorie intake? For instance, I did a bout of MFP two years ago and was eating a deficit and exercising,…
  • Basically what everyone else said. The only thing I will say is in terms of eating back exercise calories, MFP can overestimate/underestimate calories for certain activities. Some people swear by eating all their calories back (I get the impression they are those with heart rate monitors so have accurate calorie burn)…
  • Your Sherlock Holmes is showing.
  • I think mine is an Addias one - I picked it up in a rush pre-workout after I got my iPod - the one before it was a knackered, battered old thing that I didn't really care much for so used to shove it down my bra - classy, eh? It's fairly decent, but if I'm honest I don't do much running (yet) - I'll probably upgrade when I…

  • It normally levels out after a week or so - but if it continues you'll have to adapt to it.

  • Then it's not the extract, it's the fact she's starving herself. Eventually her metabolic rate will slow and weight loss will stop - it's very important she starts to eat and ditch the remedies.
  • Yes. I've always been interested in the control over my own death, but I have attempted suicide in the past, so my perception may be skewered. However, I do believe there should be a right for a terminally or chronically ill person to have the control over whether they live or die - will it become legal? Probably not,…
  • Yep, your net calories right there may be an issue. If you are training as hard as 4 hours a day at times, you need to make sure you're not netting 800 calories a day because MFP automatically assumes a deficit anyway - so you are restricting upon restricting. I would really encourage bumping up calories. It's daunting,…
  • I'm not a healthcare professional, but from my experience of constipation (a lot of experience!) I frequently get abdominal cramps if I haven't been, or if I need to go urgently. When I have restricted on calories (probably less than 1300, but you've cut down dramatically so body won't recognise necessarily the calorific…

  • Fiber may be contributory. Are you drinking the same amount/enough water, and bowel movements normal? (Sorry, TMI, but relevant). Lack of bowel movements is quite common if you cut down dramatically on calories, which will cause abdominal pain. Cutting down on calories usually incurs hunger pangs/pains, but not necessarily…

  • Yup, the word diet = "Aint nobody got time for dat" As far as I'm concerned in terms of my own experiences and experiences of others is the moment you refer to whatever changes you make as a DIET or feel pressured, restricted and annoyed by the process is the moment you are probably not ready for aforementioned changes.…
  • I weigh nearly everything. I think the only exception to the rule is I'm not 100% strict on things like salad or veg - I am with fruit though. I think it's really important that occasionally (perhaps one day a week, or once a month, depends on whether you can remain at one day) you have a day where you DON'T weigh things.…
  • I worry about this all the time! I adjust the strap to what I assume is the right position, but with my bra over the top and clothes, I panic that it's not ready my heart rate properly. I don't eat all my exercise calories back usually, but do obviously use a majority of them!
  • I only count water and herbal tea. I don't really drink soda or alcohol or juices etc.
  • One day off isn't going to make you fat, just like one day of healthy eating won't make you thin. It's a massive cliché, but it took us weeks/months/years to get overweight/obese (etc) - it wasn't one day where we ate a bit more that led us down that path. The great thing is you recognised you went over - we're human and…
  • 28 (and a half), never married and no kids. No intention of either - I'm not maternal after being told at 17 that it was unlikely I would ever have children so I've probably subconsciously told myself I don't want children. I love the children of friends, but I'm quite content in the knowledge that my issues would probably…
  • I have heard of people who go from no fruit in the morning to eating a fair quantity and puking. It's something to with the acidity of fruit on an empty stomach I assume, but I have heard of it happening - my housemate blew chunks when she started a smoothie detox diet for the first three days. However, you may be sick. In…
  • Girl, if your hair is falling out in clumps - that is serious. Alongside the feeling cold all the time, the dizzyness, the hair growing in unusual places (to keep you warm) and muscle cramps for no reason. I had an ED in my teens. Everything you've said in this thread suggests you either have one, or at least are on route…
  • Yes, it does. I don't count walking around town usually unless it's long or excessively difficult, but I definitely count walks that would count longer than 30 minutes! Two hours, awesome. Calorie burn depends on speed (and MFP isn't always accurate) but there are smartphone apps that can track speed/pace/distance.
  • Genuinely, thank you for the advice. I've been in a real quandary about whether to eat more, eat less, eat this, eat that and everything was contradicting itself online - I knew I could rely on the faithful MFP! :) I need to get some of the rehydration stuff - I'm not sure what it's sold as in the UK but I'll track it…
