Seriously, what's been totally working for my sweet-craving-ice-cream-fix these days has been homemade smoothies. I blend 1/4 cup of 2% greek yogurt, 1/4 cup of 1% milk, a banana, strawberries, blueberries, add a bit of ground flax seed for consistency (and fiber, hehe) and about a tablespoon of honey. I've also added…

Thanks everyone. I keep reminding myself that the weight didn't pile on overnight, nor is it going to simply disappear overnight. I was just really hoping to reach my first goal this Saturday (it's my cousin's wedding, and you know how those things can be...). I'm having to reconcile the fact that it's probably not going…

I really don't like the skinny versions of Starbucks coffees, so I try to just moderate my intake and think of them as treats- same as if they were a slice of chocolate cake or an ice cream cone. That said, I do often hit Starbucks for a coffee when I'm feeling lazy or it's the most convenient option. What I stick with are…

Hmm. You mentioned a cold came after the time on Monday, and here it is Saturday... I'd say it might still be the after-effects of the cold. I had a cold last week and it was making me lightheaded and spaced out for several days after the rest of the symptoms went away. Other than that, perhaps it is time to have your…

Then secretly order a seltzer with lime. Looks like a G&T and everyone thinks you're hard core for mixing. Or just tell your friends to STFU and drink the water round like a badass. :)

As a big fan of beers and ales, I just gotta say... Anything "low cal" is crap (except Fat Tire's Skinny Dip summer beer, which is IMPOSSIBLE to find in stores, let alone in a restaurant/bar). You have to take the calories and accept that if you want to drink it. I mean, avoid Guinness draught in large quantities, because…

LOL! A real pro wouldn't have shared the wine. ;)

Yes! Extra exercise is on my agenda today, too! I'd be at the gym right now if my tummy weren't so pissed off at me still. LOL
-
Wow... That's a lot to handle. Hope you pulled through! And yeah, I'm not too upset with myself. I actually was psychologically prepared for the increase in weight, but was completely unprepared for feeling THIS badly the next day! I am still teetering on whether or not to go to the gym in penance, because my stomach is so…

The only thing that stopped me from drinking the whole bottle was my friend drinking the other half. LOL

Don't do it! Let my misery be a warning to all! LOL

I don't know if you're a fan of bloody marys, but my boyfriend found a to-die-for recipe for them and we tried it out the other day with tomatoes from my mom's garden. It was incredible, and pretty light on the calories for a cocktail!

I really try to avoid discussing numbers with people, even close friends, because I'm short and my numbers look small to people who are average sized. And that inevitably opens me up for all kinds of benign criticism about how they'd "kill to be X lbs" when X lbs is what is considered overweight for my height and frame. Or…

I feel like sodium REALLY has an affect on the amount of water I retain. Case in point: I have to watch my sodium intake because I have high cholesterol, so I usually try to keep my daily total between 1000-1500. A few weeks ago, I pigged out on Roundtable pizza (which amounted to a whopping 4000 mg of sodium all at once)…

So very, very true. Signed, A passionate lover of froofy rum drinks with tiny umbrellas

My mom (from whom I inherited my coffee drinking preferences) loves the agave nectar (if you have a Trader Joe's nearby, they sell it with their honey), but I find it is WAY too sweet for me now that I've also weaned myself off the sugar for the most part. A little bit goes a long way, for sure! I also used to substitute…

I was a dedicated half & half drinker with my coffee (ie. would you like some coffee with that half & half?) for YEARS until I finally realized it was loaded with massive calories. So, I started putting whole milk in my coffee, then worked down to 2%, and now I'm at 1%, or soy if it's available. It's been a few years of…

Rum & diet coke is my old stand by. Also the clear drinks like a vodka tonic, gin & tonic, martini... Or shots if youre into that sort of thing (I totally cant do shots!) Those essentially only have calories from alcohol. Even though there is still a bunch of calories in wine, I tend to think of it as more wholesome than…

I never lost weight as effortlessly as I did when I spent 3 months in London. First, it was all the walking everywhere! It was glorious to not need a car to go somewhere... Just hop on the Tube and in a few minutes, you're there! Second, the food was so much more wholesome and nutritious in the UK than what I was getting…

I have a friend who is a total pure barre devote. I can't speak from direct experience, but she's absolutely crazy about it. Apparently it works your core like crazy... Seems to have the same kind of benefits as pilates, just a different approach. And my friend's body is fantastic, and she credits it all to pure barre. :)

That's awesome! I'm under 5' tall myself, so I know exactly how much of a difference 5lbs makes in the way your jeans fit. GO YOU! Keep it up!
-
LOL! You sure that doesn't mean "go nuts?" Because it sometimes feels that way!
-
Oh, but it is everything! See, I'm one of those "lucky" gals for whom a five pound weight gain means the difference between fitting in my clothes and not! LOL! A five pound loss on me is about equal to a 15-20 lb loss on someone who is average sized. I have a good friend who is the same age as I am, and 10" taller than me,…

LOL! I loved that thing as a kid! Another great toy I bet would make a good workout is Pogo Balls. Remember those? They looked like Saturn; you stood on the plastic "ring" and pressed the ball between your feet and used it to jump. They'd probably be outlawed by today's safety standards, but man, I loved those things as a…

Yes, the weights in the rope I have are removable. It's the Embark brand. I bought them thinking I'd start out without them and then add them later once I got used to skipping, but they turned out to be barely noticeable so I've kept them in. 2.5# sounds like a lot, but it really isn't much when you're not actively lifting…

Haha! No, I don't jump for 30 minutes straight! I wish! ;) I jump until I can't and then I take a quick breather (usually no more than 30 seconds - enough to take a drink of water and catch my breath) and then I start up again. I do this for 30 minutes. For all intents and purposes, though, it doesn't affect your…

I was eying the papparedelle, too. It was just about the only thing on the menu that didn't look fried and/or slathered in fat (though, I imagine it probably is to a good degree). I figure if I split the portion up (share it with a friend and/or box half of it), and then have a beer, I'll probably squeak by. Maybe even a…

Thank you everyone for your suggestions! I did check out the website (btw, it's Leopold's in SF. Getting insanely good reviews! I am really excited about getting to try it out!) but of course the menu did not list nutritional info. Also, it was kinda slim on ingredient info as well... But at least I have an idea what I'm…
