  • Holy cow is that an inspiring story, and truly amazing before and after pics.
  • What are your husbands goals? You say he is 140lbs. I can't imagine he is looking to lose weight. Is he hoping to pack on muscle?
  • Good luck, and I'm in your same boat. The first time I tried, I made it to the end of round 2, but got frustrated due to lack of results (my fault, didn't watch my diet enough). I tried again at the begining of this year, but suffered two injuries not related to P90X and had to stop. I'm going again, starting today. Day #1…
  • I don't know anything about it, but the SNL fake commericial is fantastic.
  • I still remember the first day of football practice my senior year when we all got measured and weighed in for the program. I was a string bean 6' and 130 lbs. The coach looked at the scale and said "we'll round that up to 135 for the program." Yeah, that made it sound much better. It would be impossible for me to be that…
  • I'm guessing she's a coach looking for customers.
  • It took me no more than 5 minutes to falsify your claim that BB protein powder is no more expensive than the cheap stuff. The first website I looked at (target.com) I found protein powder cheaper per serving, and cheaper per gram of protein than BB protein powder. How can I expect the rest of your claims to be true?
  • Put me in the camp of "would eat that." I think I saw this on one of those food shows (Man vs. Food or Diners Drive Ins and Dives) and thought it looked good. I have to admit I was at a burger place a couple of weeks ago that had a challenge and considered it for a minute.:frown:
  • Isn't that the whole idea behind the saying "muscle weighs more than fat?" My wife, who exercises like crazy (she teaches about 10 various fitness classes each week) is upset she is not losing weight, but everyone keeps telling her she looks different. Her clothes fit different, and she keeps looking better. Everytime she…
  • Friday morning weight in: Starting weight (5/21): 174.5 5/28: 174 6/4: 175.5 6/11: 175 6/18: 174 Original 7/4 Goal: 165 (not going to happen) Well, I'm finally back down to where I was on 5/28. :grumble: I ate better this week, and actually squeezed in a few sessions of exercise, so I'm glad I have something to show for…
  • Starting weight (5/21): 174.5 5/28: 174 6/4: 175.5 6/11: 175 7/4 Goal: 165 Did a little better on the diet this week, but didn't get in any exercise yet. Did lost a half pound for my efforts. I'm close to getting my mind right to get back on the exercise regimen, but we'll see. I've got a busy weekend with the kids (10…
  • I'm in the same boat (almost). I've been a hard gainer my whole life as well. Around 30, my metabolism hit the wall, and I started putting weight on around the middle, but I'm still not able to put on any weight through weight training. Currently, I'm trying to get rid of the spare tire around the middle and then I'm going…
  • You can get a big adrenaline rush from being in a race, especially your first race. You'll likely be able to go farther in a race than you can in training, due to the rush of running with all those other people. Definitely go for it.
  • Friday morning check-in: Starting weight (5/21): 174.5 5/28: 174 6/4: 175.5 7/4 Goal: 165 Went backwards this week. I think I pretty much can say I'm not doing anything at this point until I can get back in the exercise groove. I tweaked my back a couple of weekends ago putting in our window air conditioner units. I…
  • Probably not the best description. EAS comes in a re-sealable bag, if that makes more sense than zip-lock. It still smells like vanilla. I guess I'll give it a shot. I'd imagine I'll find out later today if it went bad.
  • I do coach my 1st graders flag team in the fall, and I coach my step daughters basketball team in the winter. In the summer, they are too busy for me to coach (my wife works 3-4 nights a week). On the weekend, when we don't have a tourney or something, we'll play in the yard, go to the park, or something like that, and…
  • Friday morning check-in: Starting weight (5/21): 174.5 5/28: 174 7/4 Goal: 165 Honestly, I'm surprised I lost anything. I had a bad week. I did get out to walk a few days over lunch, but other than that I had zero exercise. My spring/summer is just crazy with the kids activities. All three are playing soccer. I have days…
  • I weighed in at 174.5 this morning. My goal for July 4 will be 165. That might be a little aggressive, but I'm going to try to keep pace with Simplicity since we're starting at nearly the same point. I'm 6', but rail thin (other than the gut). I've got a bit too much around the middle I'm trying to burn off for the summer.…
  • Weight loss seems the easiest to track, and set a long term goal for. If you're a little behind one week, you can pick it up the next. I'm not sure the same can be done with exercise (not for me with my schedule anyway). But I'm up for anything.
  • In for this as well. I need a little added motivation/accountability to get me going again.
  • I think the exercise comes in two factors here. First, exercise makes it much easier to consume the right number of calories to maintain the propper deficit. IE, if I need to consume 1700 calories a day to lose a pound a week, that is incredibely hard for me to limit myself to that number of calories. I'm always hungry. I…
  • No expert, but based purely on personal experience, I'd say it is at least 75% diet, 25% exercise (I'll ignore the psychological aspect because I think there is a larger range there based on the individual. I think diet/exercise is more universal). When I exercise, and just vaguely try to "eat better" my results are nil.…
  • Unfortunately, my favorite is some smoked pork shoulder, smoked nice and slow for 6-8 hours, with a nice homemade rub. It doesn't exactly fit into the plan well, so it is a once or twice a summer treat.
  • Checking in here to the new thread. I was off the wagon for a while, but the scale didn't move much, so not much harm done. I'm in the middle of putting my house back together after a couple of projects. I was doing Insanity, but I don't have room for it now. My schedule is crazy with the kids, so I'm limited to doing…
  • I'd love to see something technical on that. It would be an interesting read. Thanks!

  • Again, the fact that your running store is recomending this is a serious cause for questioning. They are obviously self interested in that recomendation. I'd love to see some kind of recomendation like this from a neutral source. For the record, my local running store has never given my wife (I personally don't run…

  • Not trying to be argumentative, but that sounds like a "change your oil every 3 months or 3,000 miles, whichever comes first" self serving recomendation from the oil industry. Why would you need to replace your shoes every three months if you are an occasional runner? Do they wear out sitting on the floor?

  • The issue of having the food in the house is tough. It makes things a lot easier when you get can rid of it all and avoid the constant temptation. However, even when you do that, you're still faced with temptation, whether it is the vending maching at work, the candy section in the checkout line, parties, whatever. It is…
  • Bad day yesterday. Ate junk, no exercise. Ending up losing a pound. I hate when that happens. Back on the horse today, though.
