  • I have exercise induced asthma, and was told (by a specialist dr, no less) that I would never be able to run. I just completed C25K and have started Bridge to 10K. I still find running outside more challenging (probably due in part to allergies), but I no longer have to use my inhaler for treadmill runs at all, which is…
  • Ditto the melatonin. Although I think my body is getting used to evening workouts and I am needing it less. Or I am just super tired now.
  • I am a post and run gal lately, but I just want to say: we all appreciate what you do too, Dave, even if we don't take the time to say it. I find this group a huge motivator, and am sure that I would not be nearly as active as I am without it!
  • Ok, so realistically it is looking like I will only hit 40 mi this month rather than my goal of 50. So I am back to where I was in January. :grumble: But that is loads better than the 17-20 mile range I have done for the last three months, so I will count it as a win, anyway. 5/21: 1.7 miles
  • Let me get this straight. They say that counting calories doesn't work because people can't comply with maintaining a calorie deficit. BUT, existing research doesn't support their hypothesis either, because PEOPLE DIDN'T COMPLY WITH THE DIETS assigned in the research. So, TL;DR: changing your eating habits is hard. :noway:…
  • Oh, this just reminded me--when I was a kid we didn't have a toaster. I had pop tarts a couple times warmed in the microwave and couldn't understand what the fuss was all about. Then I went to college and bought a toaster.
  • I adore the chocolate chip ones. Yummy chocolatey goodness.
  • Good for you, girlfriend. Good luck finding someone that you deserve!
  • How about looking at it this way: did eating like that make you happy? Did you feel better about yourself eating that way? [hint: based on your post, the answer is no!] So just say, today I am going to stay on plan and be happier about myself and my choices. Then you do it again the next day, and the next. Some days aren't…
  • That's great! Hope you have an awesome ride!! I think it will be fine since you are so sensitive to his needs.
  • Running this a.m. was definitely a challenge after weights last night. But I got in 4 miles anyway!
  • Ok, since ticker factory was down last time, I am having trouble remembering where I left off (but my total is correct!) 5/19: 1.6 mi 5/18: 0.5 mi elliptical 5/16: 1.07 mi 5/15: 5.07 5/12: 1.3 mi
  • To fit into my prom dress from 21 years ago (currently hanging in my closet). To not feel self-conscious when I start showing horses again (I am almost there--at a trail ride last weekend I noticed I was no longer the fattest person there, which felt good!)
  • Yes--it is awesome! There is a special group here on C25k if you want more info. Some great "sticky" threads there.
  • Ok, so I signed up and went AWOL--so sorry! Been super busy. I started to get discouraged, but I have a plan to still meet my goal this month. Gonna give it my best shot! 5/2: 2.95 mi run 5/6: 1 mi run 5/6: 1 mi walk 5/12: 1.3 mi walk Ticker factory was down for some reason, so: 6.25 mi / 50 miles
  • I usually think the 20% rule is too conservative. But the 3 years old and fine boned part would worry me. I would not take your friend up on the offer. If you do ride him, I would not do long rides and would space them out (maybe every other day or more). Just my two cents.
  • I was in a group exercise class and went to check my form in the mirror and almost didn't recognize my arms--they were so small! And today I am wearing a top that didn't fit my arms when my hubby gave it to me last September.
  • That is awesome! Good for you!! I am looking to start the 10K program myself this week.
  • There is a C25K group--you might want to check it out. People post daily about their training and answer questions. I finished C25K (although I technically only ran 2.75 miles) and am now trying to transition to outdoor running and plan to start bridge to 10K this week. It is a great program--it is a challenge, but in a…
  • Way to go! I hope to sign up for one soon, too.
  • I have had the same experience. I completed c25k on treadmill (no incline--was tough enough without it) and had to drop back to week 3 outside (and still stuck there after a couple weeks). I figure I will just tough it out and keep improving how far I can go with the hills--it is only making me stronger!
  • Most likely the 15 year old learned it from dear old dad. Seen that horror show up close and personal before. OP, this is tough love--grow a backbone. Stand up for yourself to your husband and daughter. That will give you the confidence to ignore others' opinions and achieve your goals.
  • Based on the picture, isn't this technically a 12 pack? There are 12 squares and all...
  • Awesome job! It feels great to keep improving.
  • Took a much needed break last month, but I'm back for May! I finally want to get in 50 miles, which I have been shooting for since January.
  • I am very similar, too--like this poster, my goal calorie-wise is 1410 (before workouts--I halve my workout calories and eat those too). I am late 30's, 5'7"ish, CW 179. Goal weight 155...ish. Right now I am focused on getting bf% down--currently at 30, aiming for 23. My losses have really slowed lately, so I am trying to…
  • Buy the book "Beck Diet Solution." It helps you use cognitive behavioral therapy to change your relationship to food (i.e. it isn't really a diet). You change the way you think about food, and diets, by changing the way you talk to yourself.
  • I just want to underscore this. Type II diabetes is cast as being solely the result of bad health habits, and that is NOT true. Many factors will increase your risk, and it is true that good diet and exercise can help cut down the risk, but sometimes people will get diabetes no matter what they do. You have gotten a lot of…
  • No hidden benefit that I know of. I was surprised by the lack of calorie difference too. And I have gone through the label comparisons twice on regular vs. natural peanut butter, and still can't see any reason to give up my usual pb.
  • Is water necessary even for short runs? I know that is kind of vague question--by short I mean 2 to 3 miles, which will hopefully be my short run by then. It gets ridiculously hot and humid here, so I suspect the answer is yes, but I don't know if I can get comfortable carrying something.
