  • I have always been able to be disciplined to record everything that I eat but it does not stop the temptation. On days I get tempted to eat more than I should I put everything I would LIKE to eat into my food diary (before I eat it), then when the numbers go red I can rationally decide whether I want to eat it or not. Then…
  • I very rarely drink - a champagne toast at a wedding reception is about the extent of my drinking since I was pregant with my son 9 years ago. I always offer to be the taxi at work do's in exchange for a non-alcholic drink, this saves everyone money and stops them nagging at me to drink because I have to stay sober to taxi…
  • I exercise because I never want to go back to the weight I was - I love being the way I am and want to still be this weight or less in 20+ years and I want to be fit enough to chase my grandchildren (my children are only 8 and 5) in 20 years time!
  • I have had to reduce the amount of fruit I eat since joining MFP - I always ate a healthy diet - loads of fruits and vegetables because that is what I have always been told is healthy but I was 21lbs over the healthy weight for my height! Turns out I was actually eating too many calories of fruit (if there was such a thing…
  • One day will not send you off track, I too am due for a bad day tomorrow as it is my sons birthday party and I will have piece of the birthday cake I have lovingly made him and I will be enjoying his birthday meal. A treat meal is real life and MFP is in my opinion about a life change and real life has birthdays it is what…
  • I think it is because you have lost weight. MFP recalculates your calories needed based on your weight and on the activity level you have put in. My calories per day to lose 2lbs a week has always been 1200 but what I did notice is that as I lost weight my walk to school was 'worth less' - when I started I weighed 177lbs…
  • I log cleaning if I am giving the house a good clean (washing the dishes/loading the washing machine in my book does not count), and I log cooking if I have done alot for example I often make jams/chutneys that sort of thing and can be on my feet in the kitchen for 3-4 hours, I am tired at the end of it so I must have used…
  • I'm 5"6 and now weigh 150lb (have been down to 147lb but just got back from holiday) am now a UK12 and have just bought US8 jeans while on holiday in the US. Roughly I dropped a dress size for every stone (14lbs) I lost but have also been to gym and been toning up so some of the inches lost are from toning I think. Now at…
  • cadbury chocolate! Need to have a little a couple of times a week. Just have to add it into my calorie plan.
  • I am going on holiday next week (from UK to Florida) I won't be tracking my calories due to the cost of overseas internet acess on my phone. I think that after 7 months on MFP I have a much better idea of what I am eating and am hoping I can make good choices while away without calorie counting. I have lost 29.6lbs for…
  • I had my gallbladder removed in 2004 5 months after having my son, the gallstones were formed due to a liver problem I had when I was pregnant and started giving me severe symptoms 9 weeks after my son was born. I can honestly say that life without a gallbladder is better than with one that has gone wrong! I have to be…
  • Well said - on the whole I eat healthy food but I do eat some chocolate and the occassional bag of crisps and I have lost weight steadily (just over 1lb a week). I am now aiming to maintain and this week managed to lose a pound despite eating more which was a great surprise.
  • At 149lb and happy now - started at 177lb in August.
  • Both - it about being healthy for me. So I had to reduce my weight because I wanted to fall within the healthy BMI band (I now have a BMI of 24) and I wanted to tone my body so I had to also go to the gym and get fitter! I am now so pleased with the results and have genuinely changed my lifestyle - I still count calories…
  • Florida - in four weeks, my childrens (age 4 and 7) first trip to the USA and their first time on a plane. We are all very excited.
  • 149lbs and happy - makes me a uk dress size 12 (US dress size8).
  • I have been eating them back and have lost 28lbs in 6 months. Am now at my goal weight and so have increased my calories to a maintainance level so am not eating back all my exercise calories now as I can't cope with eating that much food!
  • My trainers - got into the changing room and got into my shorts and t-shirt and realised the only foot wear I had was the high heeled boots I had been wearing with my jeans. Had to go home to get the trainers!
  • I have had this as well - have now reached my goal but the last bit was really hard because all the encouragment went and all I got was 'but you are so skinny now why bother!'. Let it wash over you - if you are happy in your own skin and healthy that is all that matters. My favourite retort if pushed too hard by people is…
  • Two things - eat your exercise calories with good food and also only weigh once a week. I was advised to always weigh once a week at the same time of day then you know what your true loss is that week. Keep going and remember to enjoy life - this is a lifestyle choice not a quick fix. x
  • I cannot explaing the science behind it but I know it works as I have reached my goal. I lost 28lbs in 6 months (approx 1.1lb a week if I average it out but that 6 months did include Christmas and I did have a few mince pies!) I always eat back the majourity of my exercise calories but I am careful not to overestimate how…
  • Don't call it a cheat day - I always tend to go over on Sundays because it is a family day and involves a roast dinner and a pudding. I think it is good to have a day where the calories are logged but not worried over. I have reached my goal - it took nearly 6 months to lose 28lbs but I am confident that I can keep it off…
  • I would not carry them over I choose to treat it one day at a time. There are odd days I go over - on Saturday I went out for a chinese meal with my extended family I did not manage to keep to 1200 net calories that day but Sunday was a new day and I kept to the 1200 limit. This scenario has happened a couple of times and…
  • Losing weight steadily - have lost 25 lbs in 22 weeks (3lbs to go to my goal), I eat back my calories most of the time. Net goal is 1200 and I burn between 200 and 600 extra calories each day with exercise therefore I eat between 1400 and 1800 calories most days. I am really happy with losing just over 1lb a week as I know…
  • My view is log everything - whether eaten or drunk they are still calories entering your body.
  • Remember that 1200 calorie limit is NET calories. If you burn 300 calories you can eat 1500 calories that day and still have a net 1200 calorie day. I manage the 1200 calorie goal easily Monday- Saturday - Sunday is always my difficualt day as we have a longer family time at breakfast and have pancakes to eat. My children…
  • "It's all very well losing weight but of course within six months you will have put it all back on again so there is no point in it really is there!" This really annoys me and it seems to be a common thing my "friends" say to me!
  • I am aiming for 149lbs - currently at 156 lbs and started at 177 lbs. Not sure I want to go much lower than 149 as I am now a UK 12 in clothes (US 8) and don't want to look too thin. My friends say I look great at 156 lbs but still slightly overweight on the BMI scale so I am going to get to the 149 lbs hopefully in the…
  • Hi - I have lost just over 20lbs and am now considered to be within the healthy weight category and I know exactly what you mean. I used to wear UK16 (US12) and now am having to buy UK12 (US8) and my brain is still partly stuck in fat mode! One of the things I have found that helps is I went through my wardrobe and tryed…
  • I did an internet search for zumba - calories burned and then added it using the section at the bottom of the exercise bit saying my exercises now when I do a zumba class I just add that from my exercises.
