  • That is just the personal tracker. In order for it to show on profile you need to go into "cardio" and log strength/weight training there for the amount of time. That is when it will show the calories and such on your page.
  • Depends on what you have at home :) If you have an IPod/Iphone, there is an app called Body Fitness that is free and has a number of workouts you can do - you choose the time and area.... or... if it's a DVD workout, pause it... you can squeeze in 10 mins here and there it will add up. No matter what kind of time you have,…
  • What a great event!!!! We have a coton deltulear/poodle mix (has to be hypo-allergenic for us to have them) and are looking for another small male to keep him company and play as buddies. Ours is now 4 yrs old. I wonder if it would be worth the drive there to see if any fit the bill? Do you know if any are the…
  • Welcome aboard! What a great place to gain motivation and support on this road to healthier :) Feel free to add. I wish you much success!!!
  • Nice to meet you. I have no doubt you will push through the rut!!!! Sounds like you are doing a fantastic job and are following a great plan :)
  • This!!!!!
  • I don't log food often (as I have been doing this just about a year and eat the same things over and over, so know what my numbers are on that), but do log exercise, and sign in here daily to gain/give support. I am 37, work full time, mom of 3, and soon to be in school full time as well... if you want to add, please feel…
  • Unfortunately it's impossible to judge calories burned by steps alone. Calories burned are better told with heart rate and here's an example as to why: You have a 20 yr old who weighs approximately 130lbs and walks 1000 steps going at a pace of 2.0.... and you have a 55 yr old who weighs 425lbs and does 1000 steps at a…
  • Reading this makes me realize I break most "safety" rules. However I will say, the scariest thing in the neighborhood I run in is the coyotes after they have birthed and are looking to feed the young. Some of it is residential, but the other mile trail goes into an undeveloped part of the housing area... all desert…
  • I saw the infomercial and it looked good, was wondering myself on this particular workout. Or if it was a hard one to follow or not?
  • Ones with a chest strap have more accuracy. When I was researching, I found the Polar FT family to have the best reports, and the highest reviews from users for their function/wear/comfort/simplicity in using. Then it boils down to what you are looking for. The Polar FT4 is the cheapest from the ones I was looking at, from…
  • Stay strong knowing HE would want you to remain a healthier you. Depression is a tough war inside, but if you are keeping him at your fore-thoughts, then think of what he would want. Throwing you hugs to help get your through your hard time
  • People with a good work ethic, honest, stay themselves (hate a facade), loyal, actually care, and goal-oriented. Don't make excuses, don't blame others for your faults, and then take that effort that's left over to fix the wrong. That pretty much sums it up! :)
  • Ok... so the "PC" answer is: if you are comfortable in it, then you are good... however my honest answer is this: Take a good friend, an HONEST friend, with you shopping for one. Honestly many body types can pull off a bikini if it's the right one for their body. Get an "outside" opinion from that friend once you find one…
  • I don't follow the program of the no rules... however, your scheduling looks good. As far as what the calorie deficit recommendations are, keep in mind, total fitness with cardio and strength is not a one size fits all. Listen to your body. I was good with a higher deficit, but only after upping my proteins. Something I…
  • I love Polar HRMs!!!! I have the FT40, which I know is not one you put in as option, but it is similar to the 2 you are considering, just more add-on features, plus a Fitness test to better guage your range other than through data of age, weight, height, etc. I have only been using it about a week and LOVE IT! The Polar…
  • I have one and love mine. I am one of those people who would swear by it :)
  • Had my son at 19, 1st daughter at 21, and 2nd daughter at 24. But... I have always wanted the parenting thing, and if medical reasons would not have interfered, I would have had more.
  • Wow... ok, you are going to need more than a week, cause this now makes 181 miles. Keep us posted on your progress though!
  • They do have a category under cardio labeled "strength - lifting weights", but honestly it's a rough guestimate as all other MFP calorie counts are. My best recommendation is to get an HRM. I have the Polar FT40 and use it for all my workouts; strength or cardio, and have noticed a huge discreptency between actual calories…
  • It sure does make me wish I had more flexible hours, or a work-at-home position so I could work out on my lunch. I am away from my house 12 hrs/day on weekdays between commute and work, juggling 3 kids (2 disabled), bills, meals, dr appts, daughter's physical therapy 3x/wk, etc...and soon to be adding full time college to…
  • Bump - I am also interested in this answer
  • I will also say this: I was paranoid/skeptic when I bought it, hearing opinions - however it has been perfect. My parents come to visit 2 months every year, and they also love to use it - 2 of my teens use it as well... so obviously good for all fitness levels. Figured I would add that in there for you too. Any questions I…
  • It's a weekend for me, definitely. I get up at 4 on weekdays, in the car by 5:30, sitting on my butt for commute... get to work by 7 and back on my butt until 4pm... then the hour commute home, on my butt - you get the idea. My hour workouts look small on those days, but it's something. Weekends though?? Tennis,…
  • If you have an IPhone, Ipod or whatever, I recommend "Body Fitness" app. It has over 1700 exercises, it's free, and you can choose the part of your focus you would like. I found it extremely helpful for when I don't have time for a full workout and only partials to get ideas on single exercises too
  • Here's the thing... yes, as you progress you do burn less doing the same amount, but.. you have also built up a system internally that is burning more calories. Weight loss will slow even more, and it's frustrating at time, but honestly, to push beyond your physical limitations is more dangerous then good when you have…
  • I use one. I have the XLR. With the lifestyle I have, I had to have something at my house, and this was perfect for in my loft. Been using for months and have had excellent results with it. Like anything, make sure you have proper form with the exercises... and if you have a chance for free weights instead/in correlation…
  • I would love to help, but that is one spot that I have never had the pain at, so no idea what to tell you to help. Where it is bone-focussed and I have RA, I would be going to doctor to insure it wasn't anything... however, maybe someone else has gone through this and has some insight?
  • I have no idea what SIM is, but assume it's related to life outside of the "MFPer world" :) Unless people are messaging me in private, I seldom tell of the medical trials of our family...mainly because none of us in our household are allowed to use them as excuses or crutches. Due to this attitude, my daughter has gone…
  • You totally rock and made my day, thank you! I understand where they come from; other than online, I am in this alone and it was TOUGH to get started. I figure if I do this with her for at least 3 weeks, she will develop a good habit and her body may even crave that added movement. Since she is morbidly obese and has other…
