  • Refreezing is fine, you just risk changing the texture of the food a bit, which is why people always say "don't refreeze." Not a big deal at all though, I never really notice and I refreeze stuff all the time.
  • ...are you low-carbing or what? Green beans are fine to eat. A carb is a carb really, it all gets converted to glucose. If you want to pretend that it really matters, carbs in vegetables are just dandy, carbs in potato chips, not so much.
  • Horse. I really like horse. Especially raw.
  • Dreamfields pasta actually spikes insulin and blood sugar just as badly as regular pasta in a lot of people, and seems to do it higher and over a longer period of time, so watch out if either of you have diabetic type issues. I had some last night and gained a pound and a half :P Probably water weight, but definitely not…
  • I weigh in every day without fail. I use a trending weight tracker, so the zig zags in weight still trend down, even though my weight feels like it's going up. Weighing in regularly also allows me to be used to my weight fluctuations. I like watching the scale go up a couple pounds during TOM, because it feels AWESOME when…
  • My homemade pizza. I can make the most awesome pizza from a recipe passed down from my italian great-grandmother with homemade sauce I devised. The cauliflower/cheese crusts just can't cut it. I also really miss being able to have something like a few bites of pita and hummus, or a cupcake at my parents house, or even just…
  • I do keto, which is very low carb high fat (<20g carbs/day, 60-70% fat). Maybe try cutting down farther on your carbs for a while? I eat tons of dairy in the form of butter, harder cheeses and occasionally heavy whipping cream, though I never eat chocolate anymore, and my almond intake is only half a serving every few days…
  • See? See? Hating on me. Right there. And my diet is plenty balanced. I get all the micronutrients I need. :D
  • Not everyone can go low carb because of the high cost of meat production, sure. But I don't think it's a valid argument because not everyone would go low carb, as demonstrated by certain vocal naysayers on the MFP forums who hate people who don't eat like them. :D I'll just take their share of the steak and bacon, kthx.
  • You don't really NEED a diet plan. I don't have one. I just follow a certain macro ratio that makes me happy (65-70% fat, 25-30% protein, and less than 20g carbs/day). Really all you need to do is start cutting your net carbs below, say, 80-100g/day. Of course you can go lower - <20g is to enter into ketosis, where your…
  • It's way better to go high fat. I'm doing keto, which is sort of the low-end extreme of low-carbing, and my ratios tend to fall between1% carbs/25%protein/74% fat and 3% carbs/30% protein/66% fat. If you eat too much protein and not enough fat, gluconeogenesis will cause you to burn the glucose your body can strip from…
  • You understand exactly how awesome butter is, especially when you can use exorbitant amounts of it that your pre-low-carb self would have gotten ill seeing. :D Also when you can appreciate finagling baked goods using almond flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, and splenda, and make it taste just as good as anything carby.
  • <20g/day, and no. I'm doing keto, rather than atkins, so my carb count will never go over 20 unless I decide to change to atkins or paleo or similar. I don't even eat root vegetables!
  • Another reason my very low carb diet is a good way to go! :D
  • You could go a non-traditional breakfast route and have a salad.
  • Steak. It's a traditional breakfast food, albeit normally served with eggs. :D
  • You could try decreasing your carbs, and go into ketosis for a while. Carbs are not essential to the diet and anyone who says they are doesn't understand gluconeogenesis or the krebs cycle. There is nothing in a carb you can't get better and more of from somewhere else. Are you eating enough fat? Low carb diets need more…
  • I like shark week. I always hated the joke about how you shouldn't swim in the ocean during that time of month since the sharks can smell the blood... but when I heard shark week used as a euphemism I couldn't stop laughing. :P
  • See a doctor, for sure. But also your daily calories are very very low, and your protein consumption is very very low - those are two things that can trigger depression. It could be a number of things.
  • Dietary cholesterol has little effect on blood cholesterol - your body produces the bulk of it. For most people. That said, there is little to no evidence that high cholesterol is bad for women, and at least one study that found that there was no correlation between women with moderately high cholesterol and heart disease…
  • But fat food ISN'T junk food. Weight loss aside, a diet high in fat (though necessarily low in carbs) can be as good or better for your body than a diet high in carbs. Ketoers, for example, eat up to 70% of their daily calories in fat - whole eggs, lots of butter, tallow, lard, and coconut oil, veggies, steak, etc, and…
  • Here's a short thing on keto in general, with a section in CKD and TKD. http://josepharcita.blogspot.com/2011/03/guide-to-ketosis.html#33NN And here if you skip down to page 128: http://books.google.com/books?id=JtCZBe-2XVIC&lpg=PA1&dq=the%20ketogenic%20diet&pg=PA1#v=onepage&q&f=false
  • Oh I stayed in Japan for a month and a half last year, and while in a hostel in Asakusa I met an Aussie. We went to this little hole in the wall restaurant he'd found, and we saw raw horse meat on the menu. After some joking around we ordered a plate to split. I LOVED it. It was so good. Especially with a little soy sauce~…
  • Well, I haven't lost a ton yet, and my end goal is a total loss of about 40-50 pounds, but I do have some decent sized stretch marks on my love handles. They've all faded to silver. Personally I kinda like them. They're like superhero stripes. :D
  • People always need a scapegoat. They want to blame all their problems on someone else even when its their fault.
  • Added you. I'm a reddit ketoer too! AND I also live in WA! High five! I've been ketoing for 2 months now, and it was r/keto that set me on that track. :D
  • You could try frozen clouds, which are a hit among the low-carb/diabetic community - http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/cream_cheese_clouds.html Or a crustless pumpkin pie in light of the season - http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/crustless_pumpkin_pie.html
  • Women don't gain bulk, they tone. Lift weights.
  • My sugar intake is next to nil - I eat lots of vegetables and no fruits. So to cut down on sugar intake, eat one less fruit and sub in a serving of broccoli, or kale, or cauliflower, or asparagus or any other leafy green that is high in fiber and low in sugar. It's just as, if not more, healthy, and you'll still be on…
  • Oh, I wonder why I'm still losing weight eating between 70-120 grams of fat per day. :) Really though it's all about caloric deficit. You need *some* fat to function properly, but as long as your calories are under and you're losing weight, don't worry about being over at all.
