Seems fairly normal, though it's hard to say without being in your body feeling your pain. Try taking two days in a row off, the pain should be minimal or even gone by the third day if it's just soreness from your workouts. It sounds as though your body could use a break anyway, and this should give you an idea if the pain…

Ten miles today, taking me to 13.3 MTD. Taking the first two days of the month off make me feel really behind, even though I'm not.
-
Did a quick 3.3 today. 3.3 MTD. Somewhat slow start, took a couple days off to nurse a sore hip.

Bigger races usually have people that clean up the course and donate all the discarded clothing to charity. I don't recommend this for smaller local races.

Depending on how uncomfortable you are with your body, this may or may not help, but there's form fitting "hydrodynamic" shirts you can get which will allow you to wear something on top without having to deal with a stretchy sopping wet t-shirt. I'd imagine a running compression shirt would be fine too. My best advice is…

Sadly? Suffer at the start and dress for how you'll feel after you're moving. If there's a bag check (almost every race I've ever been to has one), check the warm stuff so you can have it until near start time and after the race. There's going to be a 20-30 minute period right before the race where you're cold though, it's…

I just joined a gym. I'm a runner, with plenty of miles under my belt and a few long races to my name, but I know I *should* be doing some resistance work to. So I bit the bullet and joined a gym... While I was spending money, I decided I might as well talk to personal trainer too. So I did the free "Fitness Evaluation"…

I agree with Brian. And long as you're keeping it in the 5k range and lower you're fine with whatever diet floats your boat. Past 5K, I'd seriously consider adding more carbs, and at the half or full marathon level I'd be very careful staying low carb.

First, mud runs are very different from regular runs. They're both much harder (obstacles), and much easier. You get lots of rest breaks standing in line for the obstacles unless you run an elite heat, the obstacles give you regular adrenalin hits, and times are largely meaningless outside the elite heats so even people…

Finished the month with 3.3, for 122 total. No downed power lines tonight either.

Well the fit test is both much harder and much easier than the workout DVDs. It's because it's a test. You're doing as many as you possibly can of one exercise for a solid minute, at the end of each individual event you're much more tired than you would be after doing one "normal" rotation of the same exercise. Usually in…

You probably had what is commonly called a "side stitch". Most likely you were a tiny bit dehydrated, nothing to worry about: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Side_stitch

The scale is a useful tool for healthy living, but it's not *the* tool for healthy living. It's not at all uncommon for people to put on weight and look much better, when the weight they put on is from mainly muscle. You almost certainly haven't put on any muscle weight yet, but you are probably just retaining some water…

Also, in case it wasn't clear: "Don't go out to fast" I definitely made that mistake on my first half a couple of weeks ago. I paid in both a slower time, and more pain. (In my defense I thought i was going out at a reasonable pace based on my training runs, but the route was a lot hillier than my training route and I…

Hey Coor. I figured it out :-) had to join the group, thanks for the link. I'm in again. I think with the holidays I'm going shoot a little lower this month, put me in for 100.

I can't seem to post in the November Check-in thread. Is there a public one? Or how do I join the group? Edit to add: I just found this, and realized that my adventure tonight kinda sounds like that: http://rwdaily.runnersworld.com/2012/10/motivational-poster-35.html

Found you! 3.7 miles today for 118.6 on the month. Just gotta do a couple miles tomorrow, Fun fact to know and tell, when you go for a run the day after a hurricane, you run into nice policemen who helpfully inform you of the live wire in the middle of the street and how not to get electrocuted..

While it's true that workouts should never get easy (you should keep pushing yourself so that they always seems challenging) it does get easier in other ways. I now spend the same amount of effort to run eight miles as I used to spend running three, but where I'd be dead for hours after running three miles a year ago, now…

People seem to be answering a slightly different question than you are asking. Like the others say, I don't log short walks (Between shopping, walking the dog, and other daily activities, my log would be full). That said, you are still burning more or less the same calories on those walks as you ever did, so if you've…
-
You have plenty of time and your goal is extremely reasonable. Just start adding a quarter of a mile a week until your walk. You have roughly 6 weeks, so you should hit three miles right around the time you need to. Unlike running, walking doesn't put a huge strain on joints or connective tissue; so realistically you could…

Running and swimming are generally considered to be the highest calorie burn activities you can do, but like anything else intensity is a huge factor. You'll burn more calories on an intense elliptical workout than a half-assed run. All things being equal though, running is one of the best cardio activities there are for…

Did 4.6 today in misty rain that looks like some precursor stuff from Sandy. So that takes me to 114.9, and the need to get 5.1 in at some point early next week despite the storm. We'll see how it goes.

You people with the full schedules for next year are amazing. I'm doing a Spring half, and probably a fall full. Plus the various 5Ks and 10Ks that I do annually, but I couldn't exactly tell you when those are :-) Seeing that there's a Rock and Roll Series marathon in NOLA in Feb is awful tempting, but I doubt I could be…

I don't know the absolute answer to your question, not having known anyone who was in your position, but I kinda don't think that much skin will shrink back to "normal'. You should probably talk to a doctor about this, but my gut feeling is that the surgery may be necessary. On the other hand, I wouldn't be surprised if at…

9.3 miles today takes me to 110.3 MTD. I'm going to finish the with higher mileage than planned, but with really bad weather incoming for the beginning of next week, that might be a good thing.
-
A lot depends on your current fitness level and your goals. Insanity is a 6 day a week program; if you want to "finish" it, you really need to do it six days a week, at least most weeks. C25K is a 3 day a week program. You're unlikely, unless you're in pretty good shape to start with, going to be able to do both at the…

5.2 miles tonight taking me to 101.

They gave away fresh baked pretzels and beer at the Octoberfest 5K I did in Cambridge, beats a donut. Any. Day. @the OP. Yes, sometimes I exercise to eat, what's your point? Yes, it was a half marathon (or at least it was this weekend). Yes, I do need to know how long and how far I went, because no it wasn't "around 20…

6.3 miles tonight, 94.8 MTD

Put in 3.5 today to ease in after the half. Felt pretty good. 88.5 MTD
