I wear long pants at the dojo mostly in winter, but wicking ones that dry quickly. I can't stand compression tops or sleeves holding the wet against me. Especially because I get to drive home with swampy clothes. Blech.

If you know your limits, you can work out up until you hit them. The difficulty is that we aren't ninjas, but we think we are. Overtraining is a real issue for people who believe they need to punish their body into submission, which is a mentality what I feel I see on here quite a bit. The obsessive need to verify that…

You could just not sweat being over by 100 calories a couple times a week. That's hardly a sin. 100 calories is 10 solid minutes of exercise. 100 calories is hoovering for 20 minutes. Over on calories or carbs or what have you is no biggie if it's occasional and not by like.. a 4-digit number.

I'm working toward this too. I have only been able to get over the bar with a buddy giving me an assist under my legs. I do the following stuff three times weekly after my kickboxing class: Using rings set about 3 feet from the ground, I do a pullup with my feet out from under me in a sort of an upside down plank/pushup…

For years my mother couldn't sweat. She has a skin condition called ichthyosis where she didn't really shed her dead skin, so the sweat couldn't come through. She got vomity headaches from all the built up heat that she couldn't let off. She started a new skin treatment last spring and this summer she came to my house (she…

Get thee to a recipes web site, find one that sounds pretty average and then use the recipes tool in MFP to tally up a whole pie, divide it by 8 servings and voila! It's in your list so you can use it over and over.

Water, water, water! It sounds like a hydration issue. What do you wash your face with? It may be too harsh. Skin can overreact, case in point, I've always had very oily skin and even after I started using Clinique for combination (its expensive, it has to work better, right?) it just got dry on my forehead then oiler…

If you find yourself frequently getting injured, perhaps you need to plan more rest into your schedule. If you are working fatigued muscles, you may be losing your form causing yourself to move in unintended ways which can lead to injury. Be sure to give yourself plenty of time to heal. If you can, spend some time going…

Won't be long til you can't use that shirt for reference!

I get the best form from goblet squats, rather than barbell squats. I guess I really need to work on stabilization. When I'm using a KB to squat, i sometimes lose my balance. I go from looking like the pic of the baby, to sat on my butt looking bewildered.

Squat with weight. Lunge with weights. Use a barbell for hip thrusts. Do kettlebell swings. Build your glutes to keep your booty. I'm sure the belly will melt from the work.

Quoting the Gubernatrix cause she says it so accurately: "The problem with partial squats that stop when the thighs are parallel with the floor is that they mainly engage the quads, the large muscles at the front of the thigh. This puts more pressure on the knee. Only when you squat below parallel can you properly engage…

T/T/Sat Kickboxing class 1 hour Thursday and/or Saturday: Weights for an hour The rest of the week: walk the dog, keep the house together, rest. In summer I tend to get out and run a bit, but I have two jobs and just can't really swing much more than 3 hours of dedicated time a week.

I tend to have a protein bar as a mid-morning snack. I tend to have to sprint out of the house in the mornings with a small breakfast and a coffee, having a high-protein bar midmorning keeps me full until my 1 p.m. lunch and it helps me reach my protein goals. I tend toward Premier 30g Protein bars. They look really…

Ignore the scale all together. It will save you a lot of stress.

True this. I am a former rower (on the water) and our training consisted of using concept 2 ergometers. I HATE THEM WITH A PASSION! I also love them. It's an interesting relationship. I recommend setting up your erg in a room with a pretty view. I don't recommend a television, distraction is bad when you are learning the…

I really like the Champion bras that have regular straps/bra closure in the back either with or w/o underwires. Anything that can stretch to go over my shoulders doesn't really seem to keep me from moving. I wear a 36D down from 38D/36DD and do boxing, jogging and weights normally.

Today I am going to take the dog on a walk, then do some major running, climbing sword fighting and dragon murdering in Skyrim. Yesterday I did an hour of kickboxing and weights, then I came home and did a top-to-bottom clean of the kitchen and living room including crawling around washing floors, moving furniture and…

I go to my gym/kickboxing class after work and I just plan to wear cotton pants that stay in place that day, change out of the office clothes and into my shorts/training pants with a sports bra and a tank top. I don't think I could handle a thong style bottom. I think a thong would be the wedgie I couldn't get rid of. Id…

Rockin abs mean you need to lose body fat. Most people have great abs, but they are just under a layer of fat. Eat a deficit with healty foods and train hard and they will start revealing themselves.

Last night in one meal I had 1800. Half of it was sashimi, the other half was beer and chocolate cake. Totally worth it. I was just shy of 3000 for the day. It. Was. AWESOME.

My 3x weekly kickboxing class starts out with 10-15 minute rounds of kettlbells. I use a 20, 2x25 and a 30lb bell for them We do each exercise for a minute, as many as we can go then switch to the next immediately. halos (lightest weight) keeping the bell close to your head, circle it where your halo would be. This is a…

Moderation is quite personal. For me a moderate amount of breads is a bagel a day. For others who follow a low carb lifestyle that might be seen as a huge splurge. I'm not big on sugary snacks, so a donut a week sounds like a lot of donuts to me, but if someone tried to take away my daily peanut butter bagel, I'd probably…

I wouldn't be too concerned about an egg a day. If you are exercising and not consuming other major sources of cholesterol, eggs are actually quite a healthy option.

Whatever I feel like. Honestly, it's not a treat if you never treat yourself. Extra cup of coffee, couple of bite size candy bars from the dish on the staff room table, meh, i don't call food "naughty" or "bad" because it's not.

You might be thirsty. Drink a glass of water when you get that feeling, then if it's still hanging about after a half hour, grab a handful of peanuts or something to tide you over. If you have about 500 cals left on exercise days, this won't break your budget at all.

You can do just about anything preggers you can do normally for quite some time. I have a friend who tested for her blackbelt at 2 months I think and kept teaching tai chi, kickboxing and other fitness classes until quite late. Even at the end, there are lots of benefits in continuing your regimen (ya know, unless you have…

Toss your scale. In the past year I went from 210 pounds to 180 but I dropped from a size 16 to a 10. I don't care if I weigh 10 tons as long as I keep having to take in my pants. If you are seeing NOTHING then either you've gotta change what you're eating (perhaps better quality fuel and more of it) change up your routine…

I sing Bjork's Pluto to myself Excuse me, but I just have to explode. Explode this body off me. I'll be brand new, brand new tomorrow. A little bit tired, but brand new.

Good for you on going a bit heavier until you get to something difficult. Be careful though on lifting with proper form. You may be better off going a bit lighter until you have the correct form memorized. This is less of an issue for isolation work, but for compound movements, it's essential that you get your form right…
