  • Perhaps look for something a bit more akin to entries with kettlebells or a cardio/lifting class. Weight lifting is pretty personal. If you're doing high weight and low reps, you have a longer rest between sets. You can't really measure that accurately, even with a HRM.
  • Can you get up the energy to put on sweats and shoes? That's the worst of it for me. The making up of my mind. Once the sweats and shoes are on, all I have to do is pull open the door. One step becomes two and before I know it, I've been out wandering for an hour, had time to think about stuff, talked to myself, talked to…
  • Sit down and rest. Injury and illness require TLC. Get a copy of Skyrim, kill some dragons and you will be feeling better before you know it. (killing dragons always makes me feel like a badass)
  • For someone in relatively good shape, what I've noticed is that 500 calories for an hour is well.. average-ish. My kickboxing classes last an hour, they leave me as a wobbly-kneed jello-armed mess and I burn about 600 in them when all's said and done. If you were just estimating before getting a HRM, it's pretty scary to…
  • I take an awesome kickboxing class we start out skipping rope for 5 minutes then we do 10-15 minutes of kettlebell work then dive into partner work with mitts and gloves then the last 10 minutes or so are heavy bags, medicine balls and calisthenics in circuits. As stated, a DVD for kickboxing is no match for learning from…
  • You have to ask your S/O to undo your sports bra's clasp cause you can't reach behind your back without whining. You get out of the shower and go sit on the couch to rest up for drying your hair. The 20 pound dog runs over to greet you and knocks you off balance. All true stories.
  • Two days? It took me a year to lose 25 pounds. Play the long game.
  • The pecans are candied. That's where the sodium and a lot of those calories come from. Leave off the pecans and you are left with healthy fats, protein and leafy greens. I suppose if you've got issues with cheese, you could leave it off, but a serving of cheese is not bad for you. I'm not a big fan of the dressing, but…
  • I have several friends who have had success easing the symptoms of eczema with aloe based moisturizers. I sell a brand they really love. Most skin diseases of this nature don't have a cure, but there are ways to improve the look and ease the symptoms. A good mineral oil free, aloe base moisturizer can really help. If you…
  • I think at the end of elementary school, we were doing the one mile run for the Physical Fitness test each year. I hated it, but i know that kids in grade school can go that far at least, but they might be bored. Maybe some relay races instead? Suicides, hopping relays, relays while using a funny gait, etc. with teams were…
  • I'm gonna guess I'm in the middle of 20 and 25, perhaps 22ish? I don't have a muffin top, but my underweardon't just lay on top of my skin with nary a dent. I do have more definition in my arms and a bit more shadow on my abs than the lady at 20 percent, but I also have a bump under my belly button and I carry most of my…
  • My kickboxing class starts out with kettlebells every time. We have a handful of the following that we use in 1:30 rounds for 15 minutes after 5 minutes of jumping rope: Halos Windmills Swings Single leg deadlifts Goblet squats Sumo Squats Cleans/Clean and press/Push press Deck squats Good Mornings Our instructor likes to…
  • It's pretty tasty, especially since they usually mix in things like peppers, tomato and cheese. Very good sliced and sauteed with veggies for burrito filling
  • Ah, the dulcet tones of dueling Internet Tough Guys. Like Dueling Banjos, but more annoying.
  • Can we ban *kitten* who spend their time *****ing on the internet about the annoying **** other people do rather than exercising? That would be awesome.
  • If you still don't enjoy strength training (I'm sure it's not everyone's cup of tea) you can always do body weight work that needs no additional weights, but employs explosive motions. It will up your heart rate and build strength and balance too. LIfting weights, and heavy ones at that, will build your muscle faster and…
  • You certainly don't need them if you are happy with the protein you are getting in your regular diet. I just find that to reach my custom goal, I need something thats FAST because I sleep late and have to drive 40 miles to work. :D
  • I drink a protein shake because: it's versatile, it's quick, It can be as tasty as I want to make it I don't feel like eating chicken breast for breakfast It helps me get an extra serving or two of fruit in the morning It keeps me full. It makes a good breakfast for me as I'm quite lazy and like to lie in bed until the…
  • Ladies in my kickboxing class use 10/15 pounds largely. 10 for overhead work like push-press and windmills, 15 or 20 for swings, squats and such. I personally started with 15-20 and now use 25-35 pound weights, still can't muscle a triceps extenuation with a 30 yet. *Grumble grumble* ETA: A light weight and a heavy weight…
  • You lost 10 pounds. Thats 35000 calories. I don't think a day off is going to hurt you. I would check with your doctor about skipping doses of medicine, however. Advice on a forum should be taken with a grain of salt.
  • You're gonna want to get over this. First, because "muscle weighs more than fat" starts the worst semantics argument ever. Second, because you can be light and still have a lot of body fat depending on your build and a high body fat percentage is still unhealthy.
  • If I were an olympic athlete, I don't think I'd care much about being bulky either. Cause I'm at the Olympics, biatches.
  • Wow, I'm about your height and started at about the same weight. I can't imagine being down to 154 as I'm getting some definition at 173. Bodies are so different!
  • A four pound loss is 14000 calories. That's great. It will take more than a slice of cake to undo that. It will take at least two whole cakes and a The Price is Right Marathon. You're good to go.
  • Quoted for truth. You can beat yourself up if you really want to, but it's better for you to just accept that cake, accept that it was realllly tasty and carry on tomorrow. Heck, don't over do it tomorrow with exercise, don't under eat tomorrow as punishment, just get back on the horse and go. Life is way too short to keep…
  • I hit my first goal of 175, so I decided to go down a bit more, so another 8 or so. The nice thing is, I'm not concerned if it goes quickly or at all, it's far more arbitrary now that I'm feeling better overall.
  • I started at about 205 and just weighed myself yesterday at 173, which is under my original goal, so I bumped it down a bit more just to see what I can comfortably do. I went from starting to need size 16 in pants to 10s, which is smaller than what I ever wore in college, so I may be nearing the end of my shrinking. I've…
  • Here's a handy idea: Do you have loads to lose and aren't hungry? Don't eat. Are you hungry and within 10-20 pounds left to go? Eat em, fuel becomes more important as you have less to lose. Are you somewhere in the middle? Decide if you can go without based on your own prerogatives.
  • I've had a cashier ask about items in my order before, but usually because s/he hadn't tried them and was curious. I've never had anyone openly judge my purchases, that's just poor customer service and will likely come back to bite the person in the *kitten* eventually.
  • Nomming in my head right now, coming back later cause it's after lunch and its making me hungry again.
