  • I do cardio every day for 60 minutes. Depending on what I'm doing I can always burn at least 550 calories. That's an entire pound a week minimum. And you can get 2 more pounds from an eating a deficit. I'm on the fast track to reach my goal. Once I get to maintenance I plan to use cardio as a way to allow myself to enjoy…
  • I considered this. I even did a few "tests" to see the difference from week to week. From this I found that cheat days set you back and can cause a considerable delay in reaching your goal. So, I would say it's ultimately up to you. Do you want to take the more scenic route or just get it done and then get to add a few…
  • I think you find success on a High Meat/Low Carb diet because you are limited a major group of food which is often associated with high calories. Thus, you're really finding success because you're getting a calorie deficit. The meat has nothing to do with it. I know a lot of people with disagree with me, but eating a lot…
  • Check out this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H14bBuluwB8 Don't give up! Keep trying! Every time you try again you're flexing that stamina muscle.
  • A Chipotle Burrito. I got everything on it and did the calculation on their website - they have a cool calculator. It was something like 1280 calories.

  • Whole foods sells a variety of "No Oil" salad dressings in the produce section that are low in calories by high in flavor. Also, I add a whole avocado to every salad which for me makes it awesome!
  • If you have Netflix watch the following titles too: - Forks Over Knives - The Beautiful Truth - Food Matters - Vegucated - Hungry For Change Keep educating yourself and don't believe anything anyone says here, on TV, in a book, or in conversation. Be a freethinker and come to conclusions through your own experiences. You…
  • I'm the same way, so I came up with this one pot simple fast healthy oil-free vegetarian dish: I start with a medium size (Non-stick) pot and boil plain water with no salt or oil. Note: sometimes I will toss in some broccoli before I cook the pasta. Add Deboles Jerusalem Artichoke Angel Hair Pasta - It cooks in 5 minutes!…
  • I've approached it as a mini science experiment. I've determined that if I eat a nutritious diet I can feel satisfied eating as low as 1300 calories a day. If I go below that number I can sense my body moving towards that "Starving" zone.
  • Just read this response from a Dr. in S. Cali. - I'm a bit of a freethinker so I don't just believe everything any doctor says, but I think what is said here rings true from my experiences: Dear Doctor, I decided this is the year I will lose that 25 pounds I gained after college. I am dieting and counting calories. I heard…

  • It's a good idea to avoid processed foods. Most of these foods are in the center of the grocery store in the aisles. Not all processed foods are equal though. For example, the cereal aisle has quite the spectrum. Some boxes are full of high fructose corn syrup and MSG while others are from organic whole grains. My…
  • Stay positive! I think you could really benefit from creating a collage of images that reflect the body you want. Look at it every morning when you wake up and every night before you go to bed. As you're looking at this repeat the mantra: "I am in the best shape of my life!"
  • The 5:2 is a fad diet. The UK National Health Service posted a detailed article on the diet on its website citing limited evidence for weight loss in humans, and a lack of good evidence for increasing lifespan, improving cognitive decline, and prolonging life in humans in real life (as opposed to animal and laboratory…
  • Preface: I'm not a doctor or scientist. This is just what makes sense to me and from my own experience rings true: I'm going to simply the possible stages of you metabolism: 1. Gaining weight 2. Maintaining weight 3. Losing weight 4. Starving In order to be successful at any of the above stages you need to maintain that…
  • Here are some of my favorites: 1. Coconut Milk Yogurt - add either ground flax, blueberries, chia, or cocoa nibs to change it up 2. Banana 3. Apple 4. Think thin crunch bars (or any granola/protein bar you like) 5. Whole grain cereal with soy milk 6. Pita and Hummus or Peanut Butter or Almond Butter 7. Fresh squeezed…
  • I'm a firm believer that a mostly organic whole foods plant based diet is the healthiest option for losing weight and overall health. How about incorporating some of these meal options or at least a few more vegetables... Breakfast: 1. - Whole grain cereals - Erewhon makes great ones - Unsweetend soy milk 2. - Organic…
  • I've spent a little time in West Africa and actually put on some pounds there. The culprit without a doubt was palm oil. Not sure if that's helpful to you, but it's worth mentioning…I think…maybe...
  • I watched the movie and got pretty inspired. I bought the Hamilton Beach "Big Mouth" juicer on Amazon for a reasonable price and it works great. I wasn't able to maintain just surviving off juice, but I do find that adding the juicing to my diet here and there is rewarding.
  • Here's a shopping list that works for me (single) and provides some variety: Note: I'm a firm believer that an mostly organic whole foods plant based diet is the healthiest option for losing weight and overall health. Breakfast: 1. - Whole grain cereals - Erewhon makes great ones - Unsweetend soy milk 2. - Organic bananas…
  • Juicing is fantastic! I'm not sure about limiting your entire diet just to juice. You can get the detox benefits from juicing even while eating. Keep in mind it's a good idea to keep your juices more on the vegetable side. I would limit each juice to 1 fruit - 2 max. Cilantro and Parsley are great leafy vegetables to add…
  • Don't worry about sweat…Keep going!!!…Don't stop moving.
  • I don't think a 19 year old with a goal of losing 20lbs needs a stress test...
  • Whatever you do don't give up. Adopt a jog/walk routine. If you have pain just keep going even if that means slowing down. Many times the pain will subside halfway through your workout Either way if you just keep going it will get better.
