You aren't cheating. We are allowed to eat as much as we need to get through the day. I'll most likely be giving up sweets. I have lowered my calorie allowance for Lent, so I'll probably be hungry if I end up wasting calories on cookies, cakes, or candy. BTW, we don't have to fast on Sundays. Every Sunday is a celebration…

I must be a freak. My legs are bald. Always have been. I've NEVER shaved them. I remember thinking as a teen that maybe I should anyway, but my mother, God rest her soul, suggested NOT borrowing tomorrow's chores today.

I have some friends on here whose doctor put them on a very calorie restrictive diet. I'm not about to second guess a medical professional (other than my own.. I'm going to admit it, if MY doctor put me on a very calorie restrictive diet I wouldn't last more than one day, even if I tried...). Knowing that they are…

I agree that sacrifice is different for each of us. Even a small sacrifice can draw us closer to Jesus and help us meditate on his great love for us and His tremendous sacrifice. Also, I heard a priest (practicing Catholic here) once explain that it was also a process of practicing saying "no" to ourselves. If I give up…

I use a food scale. It's the old fashion kind, but it'll do. I find it very helpful when determining how much meat is on my plate. The "deck of cards" rule does not take thickness into consideration. (Either that, or I was too dense to realize how thick a deck of cards is...). I also like to weigh the potato before I bake…

Give yourself a break. Do the BEST you can, know you did the best you can, forgive yourself for falling short of your goal, and if you still don't have an appetite in whatever amount of time your medication info suggests would be expected for your body to adjust, consult with your prescribing doctor. I hope you feel better…

ANYONE hoping for a tip should know better than to call anyone ma'am! Though seriously, the last time a cashier tried to card me when I was buying wine, I nearly jumped the conveyor belt to try to hug him.

I like to use plain nonfat greek yogurt as a substitute for sour cream in recipes or on a taco or baked potato. No, it is NOT the same, but I find it a better alternative taste wise than fat free sour cream.

He makes me think of Oprah. Some of what he says makes sense (wearing a cheap sunscreen liberally is the best "beauty secret" for your skin, for instance), but other things don't, and he has such a following that sometimes it seems like people would jump off of a bridge if he said it was good for their health. For many…

Cool. My ancestors were cousins to the Huns. My Daddy spoke about that with pride, though he called me Princess. I don't mind being called "hun" , "sweety", or "baby" if it is said with affection. My husband, however, can call me "Helen" and make it the sweetest sound in the whole world.

Yep. I wear undies. Nice ones, too! One day my pants will get loose enough to accidentally slide down while I'm on the elliptical, and when that happens, I want to be prepared.

JoAnna Lund wrote a series of cookbooks called Healthy Exchanges. She used processed food in her recipes and the steps were very simple. I suggest you buy the book, pick out two recipes that seem easy enough for you to follow, and volunteer to cook two meals a week for your family. Her recipes have a code at the side to…

Checking often is good advice! I'll try to keep a long story short.... I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism YEARS ago... I had been on the same dosage of Synthroid for years. Doctor did blood test in late 2010 and said everything was fine. In April I had bad health problems. I went to a gyno, who suggested we do blood test…

Guilty reason number 1: I need to fit into a new dress I bought by April. I KNOW that purchasing the dress closer to the event would have been wiser, but the store was clearing out, and I wanted to make sure I had a dress. Now I just need to work on getting the body to fit into it. Guilty reason number 2: Batwings. My…

My (former) chiropractor told me the same thing that the OP's nutritionist did. It didn't bother me, as I'm the only person I know who prefers not to drink with her meals. (It makes me nauseous.) It did bother my husband (saw same chiropractor), though. (He felt like he was choking.) I don't worry about whether my…

I can't figure out what "DP" could stand for BESIDES Dr Pepper.... Now I'm wondering.... Which was probably just your intention all along; to make people wonder. Yep. I'm onto you now!
