  • Great job! The first pic makes me think 'stuck, solid, uncomfortable, matronly, stiff', the later ones you look a heap healthier, younger, more mobile and happier! Keep up the great work, but celebrate your amazing progress too!
  • Facinating thread! Any more tips and tricks gratefully received!
  • I've got no idea, but one point is that grams go with kilograms as units of measurement so if your goal weight is 160 pounds, you'll be looking at about 80kg so a lot fewer grams of protein (i.e. 80 grams)... Personally, I try and keep my protein up 'cos it's filling but I don't bother too much with macros. Cheers, EJ
  • I've been on hear for nearly two years off and on. I lost about 7-8kg (about 14-16 pounds) to start with towards my goal of 10kg or 20 pounds then emigrated to a new country. Lots of change! Since being here I've gotten a lot fitter with all the walking that's part of my daily routine. I put on 2-3 kilos (4-6 pounds) over…
  • I'm reasonably loose in my logging i.e. I often pick a meal that looks similar to my meal rather than logging every ingredient seperately but I do up the portion sizes to give a little leeway i.e. put in a 1.1 serving instead of 1 serving. I'm also on 1200 calories and I under-record my exercise 'cos I think MFP is way too…
  • Breathe and move on. You could never have guaranteed that you would be the only one in those colours - people could have co-incidentally got outfits in the colours you chose. You will stand out plenty 'cos you're the bride - you don't need any more distinction than that! It's already all about you. And remember, a wedding…
  • US sizing is super-weird. There are different sizes for 'misses' or 'juniors'. I still haven't worked it out, but basically I think a UK14 is a US10 (i.e. two sizes down).
  • Stop wearing jeans - skirts with elasticated waists and dresses are a lot more flexible with sizing i.e. a dress won't fall off you! Also, look at trousers with a reasonable degree of stretch to then. Thrift. Clothes swap with friends. And as mentioned, definitely try different brands and styles. Clothing sizes can vary…
  • Personally I prefer to eat my calories rather than drink then. What about: hummus, low fat cheese, cottage cheese, skim milk, tofu, beans, lentils, quorn etc? Of course I'm not lifting weights... Up to you, I guess.
  • Hi there, I think I prefer the one piece as it looks a bit more stylish to me - I can see it with a big floppy straw hat and some 70's style glasses... Also, I think the brown is more flattering to your skin tone. However, I'd take both on holiday and wear them both 'cos you look great either way. :)
  • Could be lots of things: *are you measuring (if not, start). How are your waistbands? Getting looser? Then you're on the right track, so celebrate and ignore the scale. *Not eating enough (especially protein) if you're exercising lots and not eating back your cals. *Weightloss tends to slow down after the first little…
  • Nope, sorry. Great dress, but I'm in the 'don't wear white/cream' to a wedding. Especially with the lace, it's just too close to the special outfit that the bride will be in. Ditto, you look gorgeous in navy and could wear it with pearl accessories, a cream and navy headpiece, cream shoes and wrap for a totally appropriate…
  • Lots of good advice above - you've done great, keep it up! Just one thought - don't be fooled by fad diets and shows like The Biggest Loser into thinking you should be dropping masses of weight really quickly. I know it's frustrating and hard and tiring, but the slow way is the only sustainable, healthy way. Keep up the…
  • I see you're in the USA so us foreigners won't be able to tell you about how much your clothes cost but I'm intrigued by 'this will probably be the only big shopping trip I get.' Why is that? That and the 'my husband wants me' bit makes it sound like the two of you may not be sharing responsibility for finances. I do hope…
  • Hi there, I'm sorry to hear that you've had some bad news. :flowerforyou: In response to your question, another question could be 'how can I deal with my feelings in a healthy way'? I'd say have a think about what you've done in response to your upsetting news and if there's anything else you can do to express your…
  • We can't see your diary to give food suggestions, so general advice... * A week isn't long at all! Give it another week or two before you panic. * Drink lots of water. * Be super-precise with your logging - weigh, measure, add everything. * You look fairly slim in your photo - if you don't have much to lose, you're likely…
  • Hi there, Reading your post, to me it says 'Uh oh' loud and clear. It sounds like you might be beyond normal likes and dislikes into other issues that need professional help to unpack and help you deal with. Try Googling and seeing what resonates with you. I'm not diagnosing at all, but for example, this came up when I did…
  • Hi there, personally I don't pay much attention to macros... What I would suggest from looking at your diary is that you could have more food and more filling food for less calories by swapping some of the processed snacks for fruit. You could also try some low fat dairy which is filling and has calcium (v. important for…
  • Hi Lively, I'd suggest filling in a bit of your profile - doesn't need to be too personal, but some specific goals can help your motivation (i.e. lose 5 pounds this month or whatever suits you). Best of luck on this journey and remember persistence is key! You will probably fall off the wagon again and again, but get right…
  • Up to you, but I'd heavily advise against daily weigh ins. Personally, I need the discpline of weekly weigh ins -monthly wouldn't be often enough for me. I've found with my husband and myself that sometimes weightloss goes in fortnightly cycles i.e. even when you're doing all the right things you can not lose much, then if…
  • Homemade soup is easy, warming and filling (and much less sodium than pre-made). With crockpot receipes (like soy chicken and noodles you mention) you can either add lots of veg to the recipe (i.e. chopped onion, chopped peppers, leeks, peas or whatever you like that would go with the meal) or just cook lots of veg and…
  • I'd say stop thinking about 150 pounds and think about the first 10. Or maybe even the 'lose five pounds in Jan' group that's started. Work on small goals, slow, steady and consistent and you'll be doing well. Also, you're young so that helps your skin bounce back. But still, don't worry so much about what might happen in…
  • Yup, I'd third that. I moved to a new country and have found a great group of folks through monthly boardgames at a cafe. I also joined a choir but that was a bit of a write-off as most of the folk there are old and we don't actually get time to socialise during rehersals.
  • Right, I'm in. I'll weigh in tomorrow morning and let you know. Good to have a clear goal. My 2013 goal is to be a comfortable UK size 12 by midyear. (About one dress size down, though they do vary so much!)
  • Good for you! That's the way to do it, one effort of will at a time builds up to success!
  • I'm not an expert but what about trying to eat back your calories? If you're eating 1500 and burning off (say) 300ish with a hard workout, you'd be eating way under what you'd need to keep your body going on a daily basis. Also, having a quick look at your diary, I'd try to get into a healthy routine. Your breakfasts vary…
  • It must be tough being stuck at home all day with a baby - I'm an extrovert and I'd go mad without some adult human company. What can you set up/ attend locally with your little one? Mums and bubs groups at the local library, community centre, church, swimming pool? Do some research about what's available. You could just…
  • Also, remember that you have no idea what's she's really thinking - all you can interpret are her actions and they could have multiple interpretations. It is really hard not to care what others think of you, but it's really important to your mental health to realise that in spite of your best efforts, you're not going to…
  • Great job! Every one of those little decisions is a victory! (PS what about carrying a few roasted almonds or something in your handbag for an emergency snack?)
