Seems plausible. A big guy working hard? I can see that you would have quite a large calorie allotment to work with. Fitbits are pretty accurate for things like you are doing, however, something to think about is vibration. If you are using the wrist band and using a weedeater, you are likely getting some false readings…

I think that will fix your problem. You should recalculate every 10-20 lbs. Also... don't wait a YEAR of no results before making a change or asking questions! ;)

splitting hairs here, because it matters not unless you are <~12%bf and over the long term you are correct, but fasted cardio has been shown to be able to effectively mobilize fat deposits that are difficult to mobilize. Then as you start eating again, the excess energy is restored as fat, but typically in less difficult…

I'm a night owl. I workout at night, I eat at night, I can easily stay up until 2-3 in the morning if I didn't have to worry about that pesky J-O-B. Every day, I have usually eaten less than 1000 calories after dinner - 300 for breakfast, 300 for lunch, and about 300 for dinner. Then between about 10pm-12am (after my…

^^^ THIS. Did you recalc your goals? Have you reduced your calorie intake since you started?

Actually, I was just stirring the pot. The post I was referring to wasn't even directed at me! Had I really felt that someone was threatened, I would have reported him or called him out more than just a one-liner. Thanks for jumping into the mix, tho!

Well, for starters, what you see in the mirror is much more important than a number on the scale. A lot of REALLY fit people weigh quite a bit due to their muscle mass. Case in point, Ronda Rousey weighs in at 135 and that is after a pre-fight double digit weight cut. Furthermore, if you are on a caloric deficit, and…

not true in the least. Limiting carbs is just one of many ways to limit calories, plain and simple.

Everyone's experience losing weight varies. Some people get a huge weight loss initially, some people don't. You have to carve out your own path and commit to it. You will have obstacles along the way, but you'll figure it out as long as you don't quit when things get tough or not as you were expecting. Something else to…

tip - WEIGH the cashews! They are dangerous!

What is a food you really like to eat but feel that it is off limits? At the end of the day, fill your calorie allotment with those foods. As long as you are keeping your caloric deficit and hitting basic nutritional requirements (enough protein and healthy fats) the filler calores can come from whatever you want.

Yeah, the main thing the doc told me was to be sure a do a proper warm up to get the joint "lubed up" (his term) and on any type of press your upper arm should never go past 180 degrees. So, all those guys dropping the bar (or bouncing it) to their chest during a bench press are over-extending their shoulder. Now that I…

threatening people now?! hmm...

the point was in the first post of mine that you argued "the only person you can trust is yourself and a kitchen scale!" In other words, don't just blindly accept the number on the package, read it, measure it, and use your brain to log it correctly. The pop tart thing is just annoying, which was why this thread was…

I'm past physical therapy stages. My shoulder is strengthened to the point that it doesn't hurt to move it now, which was the goal of physical therapy. Now, it only hurts during exercise, which is also bad. However, the tendons have inline tears which will not heal, but it isn't so bad yet that it justifies surgery. The PT…

you missed the point of my post... We get it. The pop tart label has the size listed clearly. You win! It just doesn't make sense to break it up that way.
-
amazing how the pop tart is the first thing that "popped" in my mind when I read the title of this! I guess the bottom line - yes they should be more honest or more regulated, but the truth is that the only person you can trust is yourself and a kitchen scale!

really, what does it matter? What are a few grams among friends?! Besides, it was just a math decimal.

walking is one of the best exercises you can do for weight loss. Even if you can just do it for 15 minutes at a time, try to do it. Before you know it, you'll be able to do it for 30 minutes, then 60 minutes, etc. Baby steps. Just do what you CAN do, then later on, add other things.

fair enough, but who cares about AMDR? People that are trying not to starve. "Acceptable Macronutrient Distribution Ranges (AMDRs), which aim to minimize chronic disease risk while maintaining adequate macronutrient intakes against the back drop of adequate energy intake and physical activity, were also introduced" If you…

the problem is, if ci<co isn't working then ci>=co so ci needs to be ci-x

If you really want to learn about high protein, low fat, low carb, look at Lyle McDonald's Rapid Fat Loss Handbook. However, this is not sustainable for more than a week or two and even Lyle McDonald doesn't really recommend this approach! He only wrote it so people that are going to crash diet anyways can do it without…

a couple of points: 1) Doctors, in general, have a pretty pathetic understanding of dieting, weight loss, and nutrition. (blanket statement, exceptions exist!) 2) Everyone has opinions on what you should do. 3) Which foods are "good" and "bad" depend on your goals, beliefs, and preferences. Now my opinion ;) - Probably the…

I don't think your doctor's intent is to remove carbs from your diet. What she is probably saying is that if you REDUCE carbs, for a lot of people, it is a pretty easy way to lose weight. Processed carbs like breads, desserts, anything ground or mashed, are very calorie dense and not very filling so it is easy to overeat.…

you can have both, you just can't pick and choose which one happens first.

all of the calorie calculators and food logging and exercise calculators are estimates. If your actual results are not matching your expected results, then your estimates are off plain and simple. Nothing against you personally, it just happens. So, fix it by creating a larger deficit. If you are trying to lose 1 lb/wk and…

2 weeks isn't much time. Your body is stll adjusting to the changes. Stick to the diet and the weight will start dropping soon. Additionally, I'm pretty sure phentermine causes water retention (research this or ask your doctor) which can mask weight loss. You might try drinking a lot of water for a few days to drop the…

and probably 1/2 to most of it was water weight! How quick did you drop that weight once you got back to normal life? I usually gain between 10-20 lbs on a vacation. Once I get back home, within about 2 weeks I'm back to normal. My advice - eat what you want and have fun, but don't just eat because you can! Make every…

What are your training your waist to do? Can you teach it tricks?! seriously though, just keep sticking to the diet plan and give it more time. Water retention from changing food habits and increased exercise will trick the scale. Give it at least 4 weeks before you change anything.
