Yes, you probably chose an active activity level. If this is the case, you should probably either turn on negative adjustments or choose sedentary and rely on your fitbit.

I don't know that raw is more accurate. Maybe more conservative. Most food is going to lose some fat when you cook it. On very lean items like fish, weighing raw probably is more accurate since you are mainly cooking off some water weight. Fatty foods like bacon or beef are definitely more accurate cooked. Poultry is…

Yes, you need a fairly low body fat to see abs. The lower the better (for visibility). BUT - if you aren't specifically training your abs, your BF has to get a lot lower than it does if you have large muscles. Boxing and heavy lifting doesn't really sound like you are working abs specifically. You need to lift heavy with…

I'm 6' tall, 41 years old, sedentary job and my TDEE is 2350 before exercise. How are you calculating your TDEE? Something seems wrong. FWIW, in my profile pic, I'm at about 180 lbs and 10% bf. If you can "grab two handfuls" I would have to think your BF% is wrong. Based on the info you gave, I would say that you are…

best thing is trial and error. Stick to a plan for a few weeks and gauge the results, then adjust as necessary.

Kind of odd that you are having a response like that. I wonder if it isn't that fat more than the sugar - you aren't on a low carb diet, really. I usually feel bad physically for a couple of days after "treating" myself, but it is usually only if I eat too much of the treat. Smaller portions (usually about half of what you…

yes, I think so. My mom and grandmother have both had them. They were told that they should avoid certain movements forever.

Someone told you if you lift weights your fat will tighten and you will look pregnant??? Hmm.. Hope it doesn't happen to me... So, you WERE losing weight doing cardio and sticking to your diet. How much did you actually lose and what was your target caloric deficit?
-
This is a good calculator to use to answer all your questions. http://scoobysworkshop.com/accurate-calorie-calculator/ FWIW, MFP tells you how many calories you need, too, but it really depends on your goals. As for protein intake, you need more protein if you are in a caloric deficit to help protect your muscle mass. I…

if you are following MFP, you eat until your "calories remaining" is zero. Just turn on negative adjustments in the settings. However, due to estimating inaccuracy for both exercise and food, a lot of people only eat back a portion. You just have to try it for a few weeks and see what works for you.

your GP may not even be qualified. I'd go back to my surgeon that did the hip replacement. Those are bad about popping out if you do the wrong movements - results in a repeat surgery. They are pretty strict about certain motions.

^^ This is the answer. Your trainer sounds like a moron - quit listening to him/her. First, it sounds like you have some estimation issues. If you are doing an hour of cardio and counting your calories, you should be losing weight. Most people underestimate food a little and overestimate exercise calories, so I'd suggest…

yes, don't wait.

I'll give this a 3rd... Also I'll add - understand what a "break" really is. It isn't a chance to go back to your old ways, gorge on holiday foods, and think all is well. It is just a short break to relax mentally a little, raise calories to maintenance, and eat more carbs than usual if you are on a low carb diet. In my…

I use the Jefit app on my phone. There are hundreds of pre-made workouts you can download based on your goals and what equipment you have. You can modify the workouts if you don't like one exercise or need to use a different piece of equipment. Once you get more experienced, you can put your own plans together as well.

so your suggestion is to just continue to deal with the current situation. Don't try to change your situation or fix anything? You are making a lot of assumptions - maybe you are right, maybe not. When I was a teenager, I had a car that I could use (it was actually a question of every interview I went on - do you have…

If an overweight guy goes to a fast food place and orders a lot of food, would some people judge them? There are jerks everywhere you go, but most people are not. The gym is no different. I got up to 305 lbs about 6 years ago before I decided to get healthy again. I had spent the first half of my life in the gym and in…

I've had it happen before when switching devices. You basically have to manually know your burn for that day and ignore the site. Tomorrow it should be back to normal.

OP, I hear what you are saying, and I'm not going to question your choices, but I just want to mention a few things. And, I'm not going to read these 5 pages, so this may have already been addressed, but: 1) As an employee of McDonalds, why not elevate your concerns to the corporate office and maybe they can offer up some…

deadlifts (especially straight leg), deep squats, lunges, and stair machine

lean cuts of meat that are grilled, steamed vegetables, & leafy greens - lots of them. Cut back on breads, starchy foods, sweets, calorie beverages, alcohol, and high fat items. You will stay full and have an easier time sticking to your calorie goal. As for exercises, I would check with your doctor or physical therapist.…

sufficient for what? What are you hoping to accomplish on the elliptical? Losing weight is all about calories, so as long as your diet is in line, you can lose that 25-30 lbs without any exercise (not recommended). If your diet is correct, the weight lifting is more important than the cardio to help you retain muscle mass.…
-
I count calories first, then protein. I monitor all of them, but what I really care about is #1 - eating within my calorie goal and #2 eating enough protein. The other two usually fall in line pretty well on their own.
-
Understood. I am 100% behind picking a moderate goal and changing your lifestyle versus crash dieting. I'm just suggesting a little more structure. The thing is, by simply "cutting back" and "exercising a little", you really don't know how much weight you will expect to lose. Making a change is the first step and will work…

OK - So you are going to eat the same food, but less of it, and add in some exercise? In essence, you have no idea how many calories you are currently eating to maintain 73kg, you have no idea how many calories you burn daily or with exercise, you have no idea how many calories you need to eat to lose weight, you have no…

If nutrition info isn't published, I boycott the store... j/k, but not by much! I just use something similar from a reputable source like Panera, Trader Joes, etc. I found this one that looks pretty similar and has nutrition data: http://www.kingarthurflour.com/recipes/no-knead-harvest-bread-recipe

Was there a question in there? What are you asking?

Stepping up 1 steps and back down is no different than climbing 10 steps then going down 10 steps. It still takes 2x as long to climb the same number of steps. Not to say that it isn't good exercise, just different. As for the elliptical, it is a hybrid exercise. It doesn't really emulate any real world movement, but is a…

I usually eat a pre-workout meal at about 4pm that consists of chicken (lean protein) and sweet potatoes (complex carb). Then work out at about 5 or 530pm. Then eat a post workout meal at about 730 or 8pm. So, I kind of split my dinner into 2 meals and eat it on either side of the workout. As for the workout, it doesn't…

you could buy a stairmaster... elliptical versus stairs are somewhat different exercises/movements, so I'm not really sure what you are trying to compare. They both move your legs and burn calories, but steps are a much more intense exercise. Both are fairly low impact, though. As for why buy a machine versus just use your…
