  • Thanks for the suggestion, h! I'll definitely check it out. I have to baby a couple of joints, but I know just walking every day A) won't get me in shape as quickly as I'd like, and B) will get old to me pretty quickly. I do not want to have to force myself to do the daily activities the dietitian said were vital.
  • I'm glad I'm not the only one who has to stick to the straight & narrow to stay on track! And I'm sorry I'm so slow is responding to posts here. I usually check out MFP on my iPhone, and that's not very user friendly for me when it comes to commenting on message boards. As to swimsuits, not wanting to get into one of those…
  • I am so happy to find this thread! I'll be 54 next month, about 5' 6 1/2", and am in the midst of menopause. Hot flashes aren't constant, but just about time I get complacent and think they're gone, BAM! Aaand the mood swings. And the BRAIN FOG! Ugh. I've been heavy basically almost all of my life. I've had periods of…
  • Yes. Usually I get a queasy right after because of the grease levels, & the next day I always retain fluid from the sodium levels.
  • I lost 70 lb in 7 months eating about every 3 hours--3 moderate meals & small snacks in between & in the evening. Probably totaled 1300-1500 calories a day. I kept it off for a couple of years before jumping back on the junk wagon & ruining things. Now I eat 3 moderate meals a day with an afternoon snack & a before-bed…
  • You seem to have lost about 15 years along with that 107 lbs! Congratulations! What an inspiration!
  • Sliding into onederland is so exciting--you definitely gave yourself a great Christmas present! And you've set yourself to have a great 2015!
  • Hey, Barbara! Feel free to add me, too. I started out with about 110 or so to lose, down 19 so far. I'd love to have more friends to make the journey with. :)
  • Congratulations! How closely do you have to monitor your diet? I mean, is it a very regimented every gram determined, or do you just have a general way of eating? I know it varies from person to person, but I'm trying to wrap my mind around all of this, and your success is a real encouragement!
  • My prescription/what insurance would authorize/whatever is a NIPRO TRUEresult. It came with a rebate that makes it free (fingers crossed that I jumped thru all the hoops correctly to make that happen). It came with 10 test strips and my prescription was also for more, so those were filled with Relion strips, which I hope…
  • Thanks for the welcome, Toni. I'm surprised you didn't feel well on SBD; some of my SBD friends are diabetic and they did well. But then again, each person is different. I have been sick with a severe cold/flu bug ever since I was diagnosed, and most of each day, just getting around enough to make a meal for dh and…
  • Hi, I'm Julia. I'm 53 and I've just been diagnosed a couple of days ago. I guess I'm still in the mentally overwhelmed stage. My (much older) brother was diagnosed 15 or 20 years ago, and so I've always tried to keep in my mind that if I didn't really get my act together, I'd probably end up in the same place. I started…
  • I know stress can wreak havoc with your physical health, and I've read that it can cause weight gain or at least make it very difficult to lose pounds. Your doctor verified that! Congratulations on overcoming the "guidance" and for letting yourself be happy with YOU! Thanks for sharing!
  • You look 20 years younger! Really! At first, I thought the middle picture must be your niece standing beside you in your before picture. Way to go!!
  • Truly amazing! You are one strong lady! Thank you for sharing such an inspirational story. You've got this!
  • Thanks for the suggestions! I will definitely check into the exercise machine--if the foot pads are wide enough to let me position my foot right, this could work--if the cost is feasible. :D And friends are talking about starting a walking group on the local walking path. If the path is even and paved, then my knee may be…
  • I used to not hate it, but really not enjoy it much. I still for some reason cannot drink it much in the morning--makes me want to urp. But as the day goes on, it tastes better. Who knows. It also helps a lot if it is very cold. And as someone else mentioned, infusing it with a fruit flavor helps a lot. I almost always add…
  • Campbellsville here. :)
  • Here are two I like: White Chili Splash of oil 1/2 lb. ground turkey 1/4 c. chopped onion or 1 tsp. or so onion powder 1/4 tsp. garlic salt 1/2 tsp. cumin Black pepper to taste 1/4 – 1/2 c. salsa, heat level of your choice 1 can great northern beans (I think 15 oz?), with a majority of the liquid poured off 1 c. chicken…
  • I'm Julie (Jules to most around here), and I started JUDDD today with a DD. I decided to eat my 500 calories, because when I've tried just drinking the shakes, after about 30 minutes, I'm looking for something to eat. I guess my body wants me to chew my meals. :) I was a little apprehensive about staying within 500…
  • ^^What he said! :)
  • Go to your MY HOME tab, then click the Settings, then Change Diet Profile. One choice will be to change your goal weight.
  • Here are three that might work for you. The first 2 are from a South Beach Diet group, and the last one is adapted from a SBD recipe. (The original called for Egg Beater stuff rather than eggs.) The last two can be eaten warm or cold. Breakfast bars 1 cup oatmeal 1 cup DRY milk powder (non-fat milk) 1 cup unsweetened…
  • Oh, yikes, Babs, no, don't add all those back at once! In fact, take it veeeerrry slowly. And you may find that you don't add back 3 of both at all, or at least not on a consistently daily basis. To the key to adding back the fruits and grains is to do it one at a time, and take a day or two to check out your body's…
  • My daughter who never wore bigger than a 7 (and generally a 3/5 4/6), 5'7", very "narrow" looking, but with curves, was approached numerous times during her high school years, 2001-2006, by talent scouts and encouraged to persue modeling--as a plus-size model. I was FURIOUS when I found out! Talk about doing a number on a…
  • swim or operate most DVD remotes :-p
  • Kinda sorta like honey, but not exactly.
  • Most evenings I have something sweet. Generally, it is: a square of Dove's dark chocolate or a NSA fudge pop or plain 0% fat Greek yogurt w/sweetener and cinnamon mixed in or a SF jello cup or a mini ice cream sandwich (the 100 calorie ones) or my favorite, what I call a cappuccino cup: 1 SF vanilla pudding cup stirred…
  • I almost always get chicken fajita or shrimp and chicken and give my tortillas away. But the sodium is probably going to be killer. Make sure you drink lots of water while you're eating it and the next day too, to flush the extra out. I can guarantee my ankles will be like water balloons after a Mexican meal. If I think…
  • People who may have a valid point to make, but choose to do it in the most know-it-all, self-righteous, rude way possible. We're all here to have a support network, and yeah, some things may need to be challenged, but it can be done in a polite supportive way, rather than making the OP feel like they're dumb as dirt for…
