I'm sure everyone's wish is to reach all their goals, but sometimes that can seem overwhelming if you're taking on all kind of things at once. So making one healthy choice to change for six weeks, then adding another, is a good way to get going and not be overwhelmed by it all!

Mine is more exercise. Doing SBD, I've already given up all sugar, processed flours, white potatoes, etc. and eat tons of veggies plus lean meats, fruits, whole grains Since my body revolts against carbonated drinks, those went by the wayside a few years ago...but exercise. :-s Once a week if I can drag my butt to the…

Fritoes (regular) and Cheez-its. No bag or box of these is safe if it's in my house. :(

^^^^^ Totally agree with this. :)

I don't mind the texture of oats, although I do eat old-fashioned, which don't totally mush up like instant or even quick. This might be something you'd enjoy. The texture is creamy and dense to me rather than mushy/snotty. I eat this amount for a healthy snack, or double it for a bowl of breakfast cereal: 1/4 c. old…

I eat according to South Beach Diet guidelines, and getting rid of all the sugar and processed flour is the first step. In fact, for two weeks when starting SBD you also don't eat any grains or fruits, so your body has a chance to both flush out the bad crap, and get rid of the bad carb cravings, which make it MUCH easier…

This is *so* true. I'm trying to train myself to realize that with all kinds of foods--like chocolate, for instance. Okay, *every* bite is good, but truly, does it all taste as luscious as that first bite or two? No. So a Hershey kiss or square of Dove dark chocolate delivers the satisfaction level of an entire king-sized…

What he said! :) If you choose things with fiber to keep your tummy busy, like raw veggies or a little bit of beans/legumes, or a small amount of protein like string cheese, or even just a slice of the shaved lean deli meats, it can help fight off the hunger pangs, even if they're really just chemical cravings for crud.…

Missouri, USA, where it snowed less than a week ago, but now we're dealing with rain that feels cold and miserable although the highs have been around 60 deg F the past day or two. But give it a day or two more, and I'm sure we'll have snow again. :-p

I lost 71 lbs in 7 months--that was about 2/3 of what I wanted to lose, so I'm saying that I had even further to go, which makes a difference. If you have a lot to lose, more tends to come off easily in the beginning. I do South Beach. If you've been eating unhealthily, like sweets, sodium-crammed junk food, soda, etc.…

Thanks, everyone. I really appreciate the input. I do realize that I'm not there to see every bite he puts in his mouth, and I also realize that exercise does need to happen. I just feel so badly for him when he's trying so hard and nothing works.

Those are a lot of questions over a broad range. :) MFP does take into account your height, weight, and activity level and amount of weight you want to lose per week before suggesting a calorie goal, so I felt pretty comfortable with basically sticking with its guidelines. Because all of those factors do influence how many…

Did he grow up around pets and small children? If not, his behavior isn't surprising at all to me. I don't want to make too broad of a generalization, b/c I know there are lots of exceptions, but in general, single guys often don't have a connection with babies and small children, just b/c they have no experience w/them.…

I know it's incredibly hard to find extra time when you've got kids, a fulltime job, a marriage, but if you could carve out a bit of time and join something that goes along with an interest you have (sport, craft, reading, cooking, theatre), maybe that would make connecting in a true friendship easier. If you check…

My cousin's name is April Storm--you can imagine when and what the weather was like when she was born! She hated it when we were girls, but I always loved it.

There are french toast "casseroles" out there that you could make fairly healthy by using part eggs/part egg whites and whole wheat bread, and sf maple syrup or Splenda brown sugar, like this one: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/skiers-french-toast/detail.aspx Or this blueberry one sounds yummy, too:…

Pizza! Right! I knew there was another one, just couldn't remember what it was. There was also something similar nearby, but it was a sandwich on the sandwich thins and came with a few crackers or some chocolate-covered pretzels, etc. Again, not health food, but not bad if you need convenience.

I second the Greek yogurt suggestion. You can get Fage 0% fat plain and stir in whatever your heart desires in the way of flavorings, and totally control sugar, etc. I love it with just a packet of sweetener, about 1/4 tsp. of cinnamon and a couple of drops of vanilla. Tastes reminiscent of a cinnamon roll w/cream cheese…

Here are a couple of possibilities. The breakfast strata I suppose depends on your definition of healthy (if you don't think eggs are healthy, please disregard this recipe! :)). I'll give you the recipe as I received it and let you know the subs I make. Mushroom Sausage Strata 1 lb. bulk pork sausage (I use turkey sausage…

So far, the roasted red pepper hummus by Wild Garden I think it is is the only hummus I've really cared for, altho I haven't tried making it myself yet. I'm not sure if anyone has suggested roasted pumpkin seeds or soy nuts (dry roasted soybeans)?

Ooo, yikes, forgot about Cheezits! Definitely a "do NOT allow those in the house" thing for me!

Oookay! I had to listen to that scene on youtube, because for some reason, the line came to my head in the voice of Arnold Schwartzeneggar as The Terminator, which is totally bizarre & kinda scary.

That would be me. :embarassed: And yes, it is very important to me to weigh less than him, which is going to be a challenge, b/c he's 6'0" but about 165 sopping wet, I'd guess, & even if I get to weigh less, he's always going to look smaller, I think; I'm always curvy, he's a beanpole. And yeah, it bothers him. Trust me,…

If you've only got 17 more lbs to lose, it probably will come off a lot slower; it just seems to be the way it is. The more you have to lose, the faster the first part comes off, then it slows down. Just hang in there. Can't comment on the pills; they make me nervous. Every one I've ever heard of that actually worked ended…

I definitely look to the ingredients. The nutritional info can be hard to decipher, esp. sugars because for instance dairy foods have naturally-occurring sugars, so the sugar info might look high, but there is no added sugar, so it's not going to mess w/your body's blood sugar levels like added stuff would. Watch out for…
