Not entirely accurate - there are efficiency gains from repeatedly doing the same activity. Lance would actually burn less calories than you at the same speed, but the difference is Lance could increase his intensity in order to make up for his increased efficiency. I'd also add this is why I personally like to train based…

I find using a skateboard leads to optimal gains.

Rather than doing them on the same day, you might consider trying something like PHAT where you have a hypertrophy day and a power day each week. I think Lane's program is something like: That would give you a) a proven program to follow and b) lots of training every week, which it looks like you enjoy and which your…

Yeah, I think the idea is that while you might get better at doing it, it never gets to the point that steady state cardio isn't an effective calorie burn, since the efficiency gains are really small and hard to come by and since nothing precludes you from upping the intensity of the cardio. I mostly do elliptical machines…

I wouldn't analogize calorie burns from cardio to progressive overload when it comes to building muscle, as I don't think you can really draw great comparisons between the two when it comes to efficiency and adaptations. Lyle McDonald wrote on this here (in typical Lyle fashion with some colorful language), but the gist of…

You realize the very first study you're linking says in the abstract:

Taking someone's cookie and then trashing it sounds like way more of a dick move than just being honest with them in the first place. Just have a bit of backbone and politely decline; don't lie to their face and waste the food they spent time and money preparing.

I think some people are looking for universal or think they've already found it. Anyone who says obviously thinks there's a universal answer to the question "should you eat breakfast?" I'd disagree, but that doesn't stop people from thinking their answer applies to other people. It'd be fine if people said "here's what…

I read that as "Tryhardophobia" at first and was thinking yeah that sounds about right - didn't realize it was an actual condition. I don't mind shots (good because I'm probably going to have to get a cortisone shot tomorrow) but I'm not a fan of that feeling when the needle shifts around in your arm while giving blood.

If I came up with the supermodel index which classified you as overweight unless you were under 95 pounds, would that still bother you? If by doing so that puts you at an unhealthy body fat percentage, does that matter? Just because a scale exist that classifies you in some way doesn't mean that scale is in any way…

I don't understand why some people think there has to be a universal answer to every question. If you prefer to eat breakfast, do it. If you find it helps you to skip it, skip it. Worry about what works for you, rather than what works for other people.

You're really down in the weeds when you're trying to argue the distinction between "low" and "lower" carb. These are relative measures, not hard and fast classifications. South Beach is lower than a traditional diet but higher than a ketogenic diet when it comes to carbohydrate consumption, and it's probably comparable to…

You are not overfat if you have a healthy BF% and that's what matters. I have friends that are classified as obese according to BMI and yet their doctors are happy with where they're at because they're at a healthy BF%.
-
If you want an opinion on how healthy you are, the person to ask is your doctor, not MFP. MFP is good for helping you troubleshoot issues with your weight loss and fitness, giving advice on basic nutrition, and the like. Your health is going to be determined not by your BMI but by a combination of various factors. In terms…

If your goal is just to burn calories, then no it doesn't matter. Any reduction in calories burned due to efficiency is pretty much a non-issue, as such efficiency gains are incredibly small and the more adapted person is going to be able to push harder anyways. In terms of athleticism, obviously there's more to it than…

I think their offense might be in your head. I doubt they were truly offended, although they may be surprised to see someone turn down a free offer. I turn down food all the time, but do so with a smile, and I'm confident I've never once offended someone doing this.

One thing that I found helped me was doing intermittent fasting, at least occasionally, as this helps you distinguish true hunger from just wanting to eat to occupy your brain. It sucks the first time or two you do it, but honestly it's empowering to not feel miserable when you skip a meal (or two). For instance, today I…

She asked for tips. You reply was she isn't really busy and her schedule isn't a tight schedule, so just fit it in. How is "you aren't really busy" a tip for how to manage calorie counting and exercise on the go? It'd be different if the post was someone saying it's impossible for them to find time to eat right and/or…

Baked chicken I can handle... but Yuengling light? For shame. If I'm going to have a beer, I'm at least going to make it real beer. For that matter, the better plan sounds like skipping the chicken altogether so that you can fit 2 good beers into those 500 calories.

Get your diet in check first, then you can work on getting more active. I'd pay attention to how you feel when eating certain foods and use that information to create a diet that works for you. If you're constantly going hungry or feeling miserable while trying to lose weight, odds are you're going to give up or "cheat" at…

Also the least fun answer.

The Q50's are still getting terrible reviews, which is ridiculous considering how great the G was. How the heck do they screw up a redesign so badly... I have a 2012 vert in malbec and I'm leaning towards buying it out too. My coupe was fun, but I really love this car. The other option is the 4 series next year, but given…

Indians and their damned delicious pale ales.

I personally like to do shoulders and chest on the same day, since you're using a lot of the same muscles when doing OHP as you do with bench. If you alternate between chest/arms and shoulders for 6 days, you're basically hitting triceps (and shoulders to a degree as well) 6 days in a row. It's fine to do chest and…

I didn't say there aren't. I just said you can't assume someone in law school doesn't have a "tight schedule." Many people still commute, work side jobs, raise kids and so on while in law school - you can't just assume everyone is out drinking and watching sports all the time.
-
Meh, that's not really fair. It really depends on what you're doing during law school. Our editor in chief on law review worked 20 hours per week at a local firm, did a helluva lot more work than I ever did for law review, and still graduated in the top 5 of our class. She stayed busy. People in law school run the gamut…

I'd focus on the nutritional content rather than "healthy" foods. Experiment to find foods that you like and that simultaneously fit your goals. Law school feels very busy because it's probably as busy as you've been thus far, but life doesn't get easier once you start practicing; quite the opposite, actually. In any…

The trick is to only pseudo-eat breakfast.

Oh, they do, but that's due to ignorance about the Atkins diet and misinformation, which is evidenced throughout this thread (more in other posts than yours). Equating Atkins and keto diets is akin to me going around equating a generic bro split with Wendler's 5/3/1 and saying oh they're the same thing. They aren't. One is…

Just to add that tight calves/hamstrings can also be the culprit. For me, doing more calf strengthening exercises exacerbated the problem, as that only made my already strong calves tighter. If you've got access to one of these , I'd highly recommend using it. Stretching your hamstrings can also make a big difference.…
