  • I vote super sets are actually the BEST way to lose weight and improve fitness overall. Don't worry about not squeezing in additional cardio, super-setting is actually done in part to elevate your heart rate more rapidly and constantly. I'm kind of a cardio addict, I with I had the cahones to do more strength training!…
  • I needed this today, thanks. I've run a marathon, completed most of P90X, and tracked calories religiously. And I'm still pretty darn close in BMI to being considered obese. My diet needs work, I know this, but it's a nice reminder that no matter what the scale says and no matter what my self-perception says, how I FEEL is…
  • I'm interested to hear the responses to this. I use instant oatmeal, flavored, one packet, before every long run and it is sufficient in keeping me full until lunch. I know that steel cut oats are healthier because they are unsweetened, but I'm a lazy fan of easy. Sorry I don't have an answer for you, but thanks for asking…
  • :) You race your dog for the 'good' footing on the trail.
  • I am on week 5, but I am doing the P90X Lean version and mixing it with some running. Just did Chest, Shoulders and Triceps today -- owwwww. :)

  • Have you tried removing the battery and then putting it back in?? Maybe that will 'reset' it? Good luck!
  • Amazing accomplishment -- that medal looks great on you!
  • :) Hi, I'm new too! Reese -- you rock for coordinating this. Here's what I've got so far: Monday -- 10 miles Tuesday -- 5.5 miles Total of 15.5 miles run for this week (so far!)
  • I think my frustration stems from doing things 'right' (most of the time!) but not seeing results. And I'm not talking about for a few weeks -- I have had zero weight loss pretty much this entire YEAR!! I have to remind myself that seeing a change in my appearance and on the scale involves changing up what I am doing. I am…
  • Who knew I would enjoy a panda eating cake?? :) Have a great day!
  • I'm going to have to try out Old Navy's!!! I run in the cheaper Champion brand and have had no problems.
  • Beautiful area, I visited this past summer and fell in love! So... ummm.... take me with you! Arid and dry. Mountains are stunning but I think if I moved there I would miss the colors of fall and the green-ness of midwestern summers. Weather was fantastic, though -- even with high temps, the dry climate makes it tolerable.…
  • My kids (and my husband...) try to crawl under and around me during the yoga DVD. But they tried Core Synergistics and the AbRipperX workouts and couldn't make it :) So I felt pretty awesome!
  • I would 100% recommend that you talk to a doctor about it. In my very inexperienced, amateur opinion, I would think that switching to something equally demanding cardiovascularly, but LOW impact, would be a much better alternative. Biking is a great alternative, and I can get as big of a burn on the bike as I do when I…
  • AwwwwwwwwwwYeahhhhhhhhh!!!!!
  • :) If I can do it anyone can do it.... true story. Want inspiration? Check out the documentary Spirit of the Marathon -- huge variety of runners. Or is you want awe/terror -- check out Running On The Sun about the Badwater Ultramarathon. People running 135 miles, in the desert, up a mountain, with prosthetic limbs. Go easy…
  • Love this!!! Any time I need a reminder, I'm a-comin' to this post.
  • I wear running tights -- I just bought the cheaper Champion version and they work well for me. Also, I have butt chub. So with my running tights, I wear shorts over. I'm sure I still look silly, but I feel better about it. :)
  • Ohhhh.... no no no no no!!! This was NOT a fail at ALL!!! C25K is a great program, but here's the deal: everybody starts at different levels. You take as long as you need, MONTHS if necessary, to get to where you are comfortable. You know what? You started it. And that is an EFF of a lot more than most people will ever do.…
  • I read a post on this topic yesterday -- a lot of people said it's the dry air that irritates asthma and sinuses. The general recommendation was to run with a baklava/light scarf over your nose/mouth to keep the air that you breathe in moist. I don't have breathing problems, but I am from Wisconsin, and highly recommend…
  • I agree with previous posters that it should be habit rather than diet. But... that doesn't stop me from wanting to stomp my feet and EAT WHAT I WANT, WHEN I WANT. Staying focused is so important, and sooo difficult!!

  • Runners World's website and magazine are jam-packed with info for any level of runner. I recently completed my first marathon. Through the whole running process, from 5K to Marathon, I utilized information I found in the book "The Runner's World Ultimate Guide To Road-Racing". Good luck to you, I am pretty emotional about…
  • Actually, a lot of tortillas and breads are a great source of protein! I like La Tortilla Factory's whole wheat wraps, and also the Hungry Girl Flatout Foldits. Black beans, which are pretty cheap, are also great. Light string cheese, Greek yogurt.... tons of stuff. My diary is open, and I always go way over on protein.…
  • Girrrrrrl, you blow my mind! Your arm is like, half as big as it was!! You look so awesome, and I'm so proud of you. :)
  • I apparently have watched too much Dateline....
  • Intervals/fartleks are the best way to increase your speed. Google fartleks for a better definition. Intervals involve running as fast as you can for a set distance or amount of time (0.25 miles is normal, but you can do it for a minute or so, there are no set rules!) and then jogging slowly until you catch your breath.…
  • Awesome, thanks. I always have those ingredients on hand, too. :)
