  • This looks absolutely amazing. Makes me wish I didnt just make a big pot of boring tomato soup! Do you mind sharing the recipe?
  • ^ This. Also remember, supplements are also medicine. They have side effects and negative interactions just like any other drug. Going to your doctor is your best bet. (S)he can better track your bp and help find a medication that will improve your bp while limiting side effects.
  • bump I subsist almost entirely on jerky, cereal and apples when I camp so I have nothing to add, but will keep many of these suggestions in mind for this month's trip to Joshua Tree
  • Could be that you are filling up on fiber but its soluble fiber, not the insoluble fiber that actually bulks up your stool. Both types are necessary but they have different jobs. Heres a good article from webMD explaining the difference and some foods each type of fiber (many have both!). Diversify your intake of grains…
  • Full fat/2% milk, starchy vegetables like peas and sweet potatoes. Integrate whole grains like pasta, wheat berries, and barley into your diet just to name some things that have not already been mentioned. It is important to eat back your exercise calories instead of going by hunger alone. When you do high intensity…
  • I second seeing a professional. Make sure your Nutritionist is a registered dietician. If your not sure who to go see, ask for a referral from the doctor overseeing your recovery. A registered dietician is certified to give nutritional advice and may help you with the mental obstacles involved with eating higher calorie…
  • I did ww last spring and didnt lose. Calculated out and I was eating between 1200 cals a day. I went to bed hungry every night and I just did not enjoy the food I was eating. I kept opting for low-fat, low-carb options even though I knew they tasted gross. At some point I realized that this was not the way I wanted to live…
  • Bump. I too like salt. Not sure how you can cook delicious foods without it.
  • During your ED treatment did you have any sessions with a registered dietician? If you did then I would suggest trying to make another follow-up type of appointment with him/her. If not I would recommend going to the doctor who treated you and asking for a referral. It may be that your eating disorder messed with your…
  • Cauliflower for sure. Just season then roast and Im in heaven.
  • I dont know how old your kids are, but I remember eating microwavable cream of wheat a lot as a kid. Id just pop it in the microwave and I had a meal in a couple minutes. Pairs well with fruit and the whole grain version as a bit more fiber to make it filling.
  • If your looking to get pregnant this year, take folate.
  • You may want to see a registered dietician. If youve had a lap band you probably have special calorie needs (i.e. lower than what mfp tells you). See if you cant still contact the doctor in charge of your recovery to see what s/he suggests.
  • I second rayman, I distinctly laughed out loud. Anyways, I guess I am one of the few that dont see this as the idiotic question it I suppose it is. I keep track of my fruits and veggies, else wise Ill go days without having any. But I dont count legumes in the tally, even though Im pretty sure they are a fruit. I guess it…
  • ^ this If you really are hard up for protein, fresh sources are better than protein powders (less processing). Personally, I get most of my protein from milk (about 10g per cup) but I know most vegetarians prefer to limit their intake of animal products. Beans are also pretty great. Yes, they do have carbs, but they have…
  • Got the entry level one as a housewarming gift and I love it. I dont really drink much soda, but my SO has an energy drink and tonic water addiction so its saved us a boatload of money. Also, I absolutely love not having to make extra trips for the store because we've run out of soda. The soda flavors taste great but the…
  • I tried c25k twice before I was actually able to complete it. Both times I got stuck on w5 days 1 and 2, kept thinking I needed to be able to do those days with ease before moving on to the long run but the truth is running isnt always easy-in fact many times its exceedingly difficult. My advice, based completely on my…
  • I second what everyone else has already said...maybe its a lactose intolerance. Yogurts and cheeses have bacteria in them that digest the lactose in the milk/cream so by the time you eat it, the food has significantly less lactose making it easier for you to digest, so you wouldnt get the runs and bloating and whatever…
  • Fat isnt a problem when it comes from healthy sources like fish, nuts, avocados, and olives. I would say just focus on keeping your saturated fats (animal fats and anything solid/semi-solid at room temperature including coconut oil) under 10% of your calories and not to worry so much about overall fat. Saturated fats are…
  • ^ this On a related note, I dont like rice, but think its a wonderful diet food. Even small portions of white rice keeps me full for quite some time so i generally make myself a pot for really busy days that I know I wont have time to eat much.
  • Having just completed my nutrition final this morning, I can say that the article is spot on despite the lack of citations. Most people are fine with 0.8g per kg of lean body weight and athletes can get up to 1.5g per kg of lean body weight. Sometimes I think we all get a bit obsessive with our protein intake but its just…
  • I second this. Sugar may be sugar, but fruit has crazy amounts of vitamins and phytochemcials so its not empty calories like table sugar is. And im sure a registered dietitian wouldn't be caught dead saying that veggies are of secondary importance to anything including protein-they should be making up the bulk of all your…
  • Thats a whole ton of fiber im fitting into the hours of 9am and 3pm. Am I supposed to be chomping on a phyllum husk or something? Also what exactly is a REAL breakfast? Other than that there are some good ones, eating fruit and getting fiber are obviously positives that people trying to lose weight sometimes forget about.
  • Have you tried pinpointing the reasons why you overeat? Like do you tend to mindlessly eat while watching tv? If so maybe you should only eat at a kitchen table with the tv turned off. There are many solutions to overeating, but this does not sound like one of them. If it was me, Id be too busy counting bites to determine…
  • My OH is picky eater. ANd if I told him that if he doesnt like what Im cooking, to make dinner himself, he would gladly start living off cornflakes (this has happened, its not good). You kind of need to treat your family like they are 3-year olds. Introduce new foods one at a time. Dont make them a meal of whole grain…
  • When I was on ww i used to do this. It stunk because I was always so ravenous I couldnt actually enjoy my food. I kind of just shoveled it all in. I got used to it, but my body never did...couldnt lose weight that way.
  • First check your weight loss goal. Unless you are obese you will find it extremely difficult to lose 2 or even sometimes 1 pound a week. MFP when it gives you the calorie goal does not take what our bodies can realistically do into account. It just takes the numbers you supply and plugs it into a formula then poof...goal…
  • Man I love goldfish crackers...and mac and cheese. Those things wouldnt make it till sundown. Candy on the other hand, bought mine a couple weeks ago and its still completely untouched. The only thing I love more than goldfish is the Almighty Cheezit-destroyer of diets.
