I'm trying not to be frustrated with…
  • Everything has calories, even healthy foods! 1200 calories is a low goal, so you really have to be careful with your calorie allotment. I try to plan my meals for the day in the morning, so I don't end up running out at lunchtime. I like to eat overnight oats for breakfast, and it seems similar to what you are eating, but…
  • I currently lift 4x/week with an upper/lower split, and run 2x/week. I finally set up my basement gym and have a bench, pull up bar, resistance bands, barbell/plate set, and dumbbell set, so I can do full lifting workouts at home! I'm also trying to add some deep stretching/yoga work into my routine.
  • It's kind of annoying, you have to click on the person's user name and it takes you to another page, then click on their name again, and you will get a prompt to message them or friend them.
  • I just added you! I'm always looking for active friends. I'm on pretty much every day, so anyone else, feel free to add me!
  • Hi Amber! I'm looking to lose around 20-25lbs (currently 5'8" 165lbs). Feel free to add me!

  • I recently found a new recipe for a snack that is so tasty. 2oz peas, 2oz shelled edamame, 1 tbsp tamari, 1/2 tbsp chili garlic sauce. It's salty and spicy and the peas have a little bit of sweetness. Whenever I work out in the morning I am always starving by 10:30, and eating this for a snack can hold me over until lunch.
  • Feel free to add me! I have been vegetarian for 16 years and try to eat whole, unprocessed foods. Also, if you're looking for recipe inspiration, I love Minimalist Baker, Vegan Richa, and The Vegan 8 blogs.

  • Hi all, I'm 33 and want to lose 30lbs this year. I am 5'8 171lbs. Feel free to add me!
  • Hi! I'm also re-starting using MFP after a few years of not tracking and gaining. My plan is to eat around 1500 calories/day, and I would love to lose around 30lbs total. I also want to start running and weight lifting again. I eat mostly plant-based, with small amounts of dairy and eggs, and fewer processed foods,…
  • I recently switched from vegetarian to vegan, and I find I've been doing a lot more meal prep now. Basically on Sunday evening I prep veggies for the week. This week I roasted broccoli, beets, and sweet potato. I also sauteed kale and beet greens, and made a bunch of quinoa and farro. It only takes a couple of hours on…
  • tomatoes, broccoli, sweet potatoes, avocado, carrots, almond milk, bananas, and fruit and nut trail mix I always have quinoa, farro, and lentils in the house, although I usually don't have to buy them weekly. Everything else depends on my meal plan for the week.
  • Whenever I get shin splints I know it's time for new running shoes. Are you running in old or poor quality shoes?
  • When I have time I make a protein smoothie. When I'm running late I grab a packet of breakfast biscuits.
  • You can get B12 from dairy, eggs, fortified cereals and tofu, and nutritional yeast (sounds gross, but it's actually good!).
  • I've been a lacto-ovo vegetarian for over 10 years, and people always ask my where I get my protein. It's actually really difficult to be protein deficient, since almost every food has some! Some high-protein vegetarian foods are lentils, quinoa, beans, tofu, eggs, and dairy. For anyone looking for inspiration, here are…
  • I would recommend trying NRL4W if you want to start lifting. It's a great intro, and will give you a program to get you started. My favorite exercises are deadlifts, squats, pushups, planks, bicycle crunches, lunges, and lat pulldowns. When I do intervals, I typically run for 1 minute at a speed where I get winded, and…
  • This sounds similar to pain I had after a half marathon last november. I ended up having a stress fracture, and I had to wear a boot for 6 weeks. Not fun :( I would go to the doctor, because it could be a variety of things.
  • Body glide and compression shorts.
  • Before I started working out regularly it was between 75-80. Now it's between 55-60.
  • You should do what works for you. Personally I wouldn't need to drink anything during a run that distance, and just drink water before and after.
  • I completed the workouts in the book, and I think they were very effective. The workouts change often enough that I didn't get bored of them, although I felt kind of silly doing some of the moves in the gym. I just started the new rules of lifting for abs program this morning, and I'm hoping to like it as much as NRL4W.
  • Great article. Thanks for posting!
  • Recently it's been strength. I just can't get myself to run in the horrible summer heat/humidity, and I hate treadmills.
  • Congrats on the weight loss! I like to wear compression clothes when I do cardio. It keeps everything in place and there is less jiggling. You can get cheap-ish compression gear at Old Navy or Target.
  • I sweat heaps when I work out, too. Just make sure you are rehydrating well when you're finished!
  • I just did the Philly TM last weekend. The heat made it rough (it was in the low 90s), but I had a really fun time. It took us about 4.5 hours to finish, but one of the girls on my team hurt herself and had to stop halfway through. The obstacles were really fun, and I at least attempted them all, even though there were…
