I'm very fond of the blog Weighty Matters (http://www.weightymatters.ca/) which is written by a Canadian obesity medicine doc. He talks a lot about the social issues impacting obesity.

I found a similar product in my grocery store, Just Great Stuff powdered peanut butter. I am loving it mixed into my greek yogurt. Not sure I'd make a sandwich out of it though.

I'm too far away, in Rochester, but I suggest that you post your typical speed. No point in being running buddies if you aren't anywhere close to each other :)

After I've been doing this for so long sometimes I have a hard time watching as a lot of people around me have been getting weight loss surgery and losing just as much or more weight than me way faster and without anywhere near the amount of effort. It's tough not to be a little jealous, especially on those frustrating…

The biggest cause of dry chicken is overcooking. Get yourself a meat thermometer. If you want to be fancy you can buy a probe thermometer. You put the probe in the thickest part of the chicken and run the cord out to where the rest of the thermometer is (outside the oven) and set an alarm for, say, 165* (or 160* and it…

Keep your pace on the slower side as you try to up your distance. Couch to 5k is great too. If you can already run some, start it partway through.

Hey as long as it isn't interfering with meeting your daily goals, why give up something you love so much? A teaspoon of sugar isn't that much. Even if you're having five cups a day that's only 75 calories. Not the end of the world. That's like drinking half a can of soda. Yeah you could cut it down or cut it out, it's…

Go see a great tattoo artist, someone who has good-looking coverups in their portfolio. Ask his/her advice. Come in with a couple general ideas for what you might like as a tattoo and let them give you their input on what would work best. I did this. Now I have a gorgeous space scene on my back with a big spiral galaxy…

I agree with Jen. It's all about how you feel. Personally, if I haven't eaten within a few hours of working out I usually have a bad run. I used to go to the gym right after work and I'd be hungry. Really affected my performance. So now I have dinner first and then go work out. Some people are the opposite and feel lousy…

Try joining a running group! If there's a Fleet Feet Sports in your area, they have a beginner's running group, similar in style to a Couch to 5K program. It's a great way to build confidence, and make new friends. I found once I started going out with the group and thinking of myself as a runner, the self-consciousness…

It's better to accommodate your body than constantly fight against it. If you're hungry right after work, plan an after-work snack into your day. Better yet, plan it for slightly earlier so you don't get to that "STARVING NOW MUST EAT EVERYTHING!" phase at all. I mean it takes a long time to lose weight. You have to make…

Have you checked out bulk packages of chicken? I can get a "club pack" of chicken breast at my grocery store for $1.99 per pound. Typically around 6-7 pounds in a package. Then I just split it up and freeze it. I also buy meat on special when I can, stuff that is going out of date in a day or two, and freeze it right away.…

You could weigh the dish of bread crumbs/flour before and after the breading takes places. Or you could estimate. Maybe a tablespoon of flour and 1/4 to 1/2 cup bread crumbs depending on how big what you're breading is. You can have her measure the oil that she puts in the pan. If you're just using enough to brown it,…

Take a boxing class or something! The exercise will help with the weight loss, and give you an added boost of feeling powerful and good about yourself! Distracting yourself with a new hobby wouldn't hurt either.

I used it once to coat chicken before I breaded it when I didn't have any egg. Actually came out delicious.

I used to dial it back if I felt poorly. I still went though, I'm always afraid that if I make excuses to not go it'll be easier to not go next time. But I've found since I've been exercising regularly I don't have NEARLY the pain and cramping I used to get. Kind of a nice surprise.

When you're healthy and you love someone and you want them to be healthy, you encourage them by saying things like, I dunno, "I love you and I want you to be healthy with me." You don't say "I'm not attracted to you anymore." If you're GENUINELY not attracted to someone and you can't be with them anymore, you break up with…

It's always tough moving to a totally new place. When I moved to this city for work, I didn't really know anybody, so I decided what I was going to do was install myself into a nice local hangout (a gay coffee shop) and keep going until I was a regular. I showed up every single day until when I walked in the door Randy the…

I read "I'm A Cat" too lol I guess we were all primed from the cat threads yesterday. They were pretty funny! Anyway, welcome human-Cat. What made you move from NY to SC? It seems drastic.

I like these loop style headphones: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0015AHRFK/ref=oh_details_o08_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 They don't fall off and the sound is decent. And they're pretty cheap so when you lose them or eventually break them, it's not a big deal. I can't stand the ear bud style.

That's kinda on the low side. It may be low enough to stall you out, it may not be. However, it is not a great long term plan. It gets harder the longer you do it to maintain a low deficit. Everybody starts out all gung-ho eating healthy and maintaining low calories, but it's a lot more difficult to stay with a plan like…

I don't, cause I hate hearing other people talk about how much weight they want to lose, or what they ate today, or how they want to start going back to the gym. Yawn. I get drawn into enough of those conversations as it is because people notice my weight loss. I'm also anti nosy questions like "how much more are you…

If people make rude comments about my my eating or exercise, I just lightly say something like "Hey I don't pick on your ice cream, leave my yogurt and apples alone." Usually it works. I do often go out of my way with friends though to explicitly state that I'm not judging what they eat or do/don't do activity-wise. A lot…

When I finished couch to 5k, my final run was at 3.8mph, which is around 6 kilometers per hour. And I was damn proud of myself for finishing. It doesn't matter how fast you go, it all counts, and it's all something to be proud of. And you continue to get better. The other day I ran a 5k race in under 35 minutes! Just keep…

I saw that in the store recently and the flavors sounded delicious but the way it was labeled "cultured dairy product" instead of yogurt made me scared to try it. So it's good then?

I like Fage! I usually mix in vanilla bean paste and some splenda, then add homemade granola (the current batch is cherry apple, yum!)

My arm tattoo has gotten much brighter with losing weight, as I've lost several inches around my arms. Luckily it isn't something where any distortion is very noticeable (I have a half sleeve of irises) so although it's a little bit narrower than it used to be, it doesn't really have an impact on the look of the tattoo. My…

I'm only really worried about it burning my eyes, not the chemicals. I'm way more concerned with melanoma than I am with whatever minute risks come from wearing sunscreen. I burn in about 10 minutes so not wearing anything is really not an option for me unfortunately.

I netted around 1800 calories for most of my weight loss. Down to 1600 now but I'm a lot smaller than I used to be. Seems to be working pretty well :)

An example day for me: Breakfast: 1 cup greek yogurt, with splenda and vanilla, and 1 ounce of homemade granola (around 250 cals) Lunch: Homemade soup/dinner leftovers plus a piece of fruit and another yogurt (around 500 cal) Dinner: Last night I made beans and rice with chicken and chicken sausage and veggies, plus soda…
