Many plastics are not meant to be heated up and will melt or give off nasty fumes etc. In general, unless it says "microwave safe," I do not put plastic in the microwave. Also you have to watch out because some containers are microwave safe but the lids are not. The only reason I've heard of NOT to cook food in the…

woohoo! Me too, I ran 3.1 miles today. It was tough but I feel so accomplished :)

I often reply "Oh don't worry, I'm not sick or anything, I've been trying to lose weight." This is mostly because I hate society's obsession with losing weight and the way everybody makes my weight their business. So I just happily pretend they are concerned for my overall well-being. And usually they will follow that up…

No, it's total BS. Don't waste your money.

I usually make fish in the oven in parchment paper, it's super easy. Preheat to 350, put the fish filet on parchment paper, season how you like it (I use lemon juice plus whatever spices I feel like that day), fold the paper over and roll the edges to make a pouch, then bake for 14-15 minutes. That's for a thin (<1 inch)…

I doubt it's possible to be in a relationship with someone who lives an opposite lifestyle from yours and have it NOT have an impact on your lifestyle, especially one that takes so much time and energy to maintain. And it's not the sort of thing you can compromise on - giving her what she wants and eating unhealthy…

I lost my first 45lbs all with diet. I started working out after I lost so much weight that I couldn't maintain a calorie goal with a pound a week weight loss without feeling deprived. So I added exercise to bump my calories up a bit. And yeah, there's a lot of health benefits from exercise that are totally separate from…

It will prompt you at a weight loss of 10 pounds I think to change your calorie goals. Seems like it only happens if you enter your weight on the website though, because I usually enter my weight from the mobile app and I don't recall it ever coming up there.

I have done both, and I found I was able to increase my distance better with the C25K program. I think it might have been the set goals and timeframe I had to achieve that helped me to push myself a little harder.

130 ounces of water is an awful lot. The recommended amount of water is 8 8oz glasses (64 ounces total) throughout the day, plus maybe an extra cup or two if you are working out or you're outside in the heat. And that 8 cups of water number is including food, which usually provides about 20% of a person's daily water…

Week 7 here, going strong! I tried to complete day 2 today (2.5 miles) but got paged in to work after a mile and a half. I did it on Monday though, so I'm feeling pretty good.

I agree with the person who said better than boullion. I use this for a soup base in everything I make, it has a much better flavor than plain chicken broth and it's generally cheaper. I would also suggest this - add a few parmesan rinds to the soup while it simmers. You take them out afterwards (they are really gross and…

Turkey hill makes a light strawberry cheesecake that is to die for at 120 cal per 1/2 cup. I also usually buy the Edy's slow churned, I like cookie dough the best!

I just started the program this week, though I had been starting to run a little bit on my own beforehand (up to a mile) so I started on week 4 which is a total of 1.5 miles running. Two days down, one to go, and it's going well so far. I am nervous though looking ahead to next week where I'm supposed to be able to go 2…

Definitely buy the food scale. I was shocked to realize that even using measuring cups there's still quite a bit of room for error, especially with foods that can squish a bit or if everything isn't perfectly level every time. Also, a food scale means less washing of measuring cups, which is always a pain. My very best…

We're ALL soaking in diet culture, even those of us who aren't dieting or trying to lose weight. Everything in the media says we're supposed to feel guilt if we indulge, and your friends are probably reacting to that guilt. I would say that their efforts to get you to eat unhealthy things aren't about trying to hurt you or…

I've been making these little individual-sized oatmeals. If you make the recipe without the milk, they come out kind of like those Quaker Oatmeal To Go breakfast square things, except better. I eat two of them in the morning (take them out of the freezer the night before), and it keeps me feeling full.…

A fish filet (anything I can get individually vacuum-packed in bulk), grilled on my george foreman with a coating of cajun seasoning (or sometimes lemon and garlic), with half a bag of steam-in-the-microwave veggies makes for a big plate of food and under 300 calories, plus it helps me get to my protein goals without…

When it comes to weight loss in a pill, you have two options: 1) doesn't work 2) might work a little, but might also really hurt you and possibly kill you That's it. Personally I go for none of the above. Until the day when something is actually tested and approved by the FDA (for me anyway, being in the US) and has gone…

Absolutely this. She is probably dealing with her own issues, and it seems likely to me that she's not doing this to hurt you, but rather to protect herself. Your idea of a healthy lifestyle is a direct threat to HER idea of what she wants a healthy lifestyle to be, and my guess would be that her way of dealing with the…

Those of you who have one - is it very noticeable under your clothes?

My best advice after six months... First, it's a marathon, not a sprint. Go slow. Seriously. It doesn't matter how fast you start out if you can't make it to the end that way. You're making a big life change, if you try to go super intense with it it's much more likely that you'll get burned out and fall apart. I started…

Yeah actually frozen works best if you're going to cook it while you're at work - 8+ hours is a little too long for fresh chicken breast, but it's great for frozen. One note though - if you put frozen meat in the crock pot, put something else down on the bottom first, or risk it cracking! I usually put down some of the…

I usually add a can of corn and a can of black beans, and then after shredding the chicken at the end stir in a container (6oz) of fat free plain greek yogurt for a little extra tang. Oh, and I make my own taco seasoning from this recipe: http://budgetbytes.blogspot.com/2012/02/taco-seasoning-034-batch.html and it's WAY…

I don't know the exact recipe you're using, but no you don't need extra liquid to cook in a crock pot. It should be fine with just what's in there.

I am quite a bit heavier than you, but I had a similar issue. I had mine set at 1790 for a while and after a couple months stopped losing weight. I ate under my calories as much as possible, I probably averaged only 1500-1600, yet I spent an entire month at the same weight. I read up a bit on metabolism and I found…

No, Lisinopril on its own should not cause you to retain water. The reason it is often mixed with a "water pill" as someone else mentioned is because the two drugs work very well together to help reduce blood pressure, not because the one is meant to counteract the other. (FWIW, I am a pharmacist)
