  • My primary motivator is that I'm getting married in the summer and I am bigger than I'm comfortable with. My clothes were also getting tighter and I had been slowly gaining for a year or so.
  • I'm not really a gym person but go running quite a lot. I got a HRM for christmas and it has really helped tracking actual calories and I've found my current weight loss regime is a lot more successful than previous ones.
  • I will repeate what others have said, 'Of course you can'. It may be less than you may be used to but I do find it's pretty filling either way. I had pasta for the first time last night since I started watching the calories and I was worried it would be pittance but it was actually plenty (75g dry - like 3laine75).

  • I'm on 1400+, I eat back 50-75% of my exercise calories. On week 5 and have lost 3 kg (about 6.5lbs). I started out on 1200 on week 1 then upped it to 1300 on week 2 then upped again to 1400 on week 3. I've only lost the 3kg in the last 2-3 weeks. I'm 28 and 5'9 with a desk job.
  • In relation to the sweets and treats for your husband and kids here's how me and my fiancee make it work. He likes his sweets, in fact there is a draw in the fridge full of chocolate bars. He has will power and can only eat 1 and leave the others. This is will power I do not have and we both know it. So the only chocolates…
  • I decided to keep it to myself - didn't even tell my fiancee in the first week. Main reason for not telling people was the fact I tend to get the "but you're fine - you don't need to lose weight". And then they try to convince me to eat more. I get where they are coming from - I have a history of eating disorders and…
  • Home made Almond Granola bars. I make them myself but have had to space out making them to once a month. If they are in the fridge I just want to eat all of them! Only 128kcal a bar but one is not enough, nor are two or three or ... well you get the idea.
  • It certainly does work! I used to hate running, despised having to do it in school and the idea of it repelled me for years after. Then I started C25K. Now I have to actively stop myself from running every day and limit myself to 5 days a week. My over all mood improved, I had way more energy and I feel it has really…
  • I've been at 1400 the last two weeks and plan to keep at it for the foreseeable future. Feel free to add me as a friend.
  • They make a great soup too. I add some carrots and leeks and throw in a little chili a some garlic. They are also amazing dry roasted and there is this recipe, which is one of my favs! http://www.yummly.com/recipe/Sweet-Potatoes-With-Pecans-And-Goat-Cheese-519687
  • Everyone is different and for some people perhaps they do need to get a little bit 'obsessed' just to get started. I do need to be a bit obsessed in order to be motivated - I know I feel better when I run in the morning and I'm a bit slimmer but I find it very hard unless I'm all in. The idea is that after a few months the…
  • First thing in the morning - get out of bed and go for a run.
  • Thank you for the response - lower intensity does seem the way to go.
  • Sounds like my kinda group of folks. Love sci-fi and fantasy books ... and books in general, TV shows, movies and comics. Marrying a full on gamer - part of the spec when buying a house was making sure there would be space for a gaming room. I'm in to MMOs (though I had to take a break to focus on my freelancing career).
  • So tonnes of people have replied - my 2 cents: My stats aren't very different from yours. It took me nearly three weeks of rigorous MFP logging and running pretty much every day before those damn scales finally shifted. I had a simple plan where I was going to start at 1200 on my first week - up to 1300 on my second week…
  • Yep - I drink a lot of Herbal tea so need to pee every hour pretty much.
  • On my third week and still not really seeing any results. To be fair at the beginning I was focusing on just reducing my appetite and tackle my tendency to eat just to fill time. I was hoping to be down at least a kg by now but I'm willing to be patient and despite being the exact same size as before I do feel a bit better…
  • I know exactly what you mean about routines - I feel like I need to run every day because I totally lose momentum when I stop. That being said I am currently sick my self and have decided to let myself take a few days off. I'd take it easy and give your body a chance to recover.
  • Wow! Some fantastic advice! Thank you everyone!
  • Thanks everyone. I know exercise is supposed to help - I run pretty much everyday. I drink a lot of herbal and green tea - I've been counting this toward water intake but I think I might just try and drink more water as well.
  • I wake up, go for my run, strip down then get on the scales in the nip. I have the old fashioned scales so they can be tough to read if the change is small. Weigh every other day and log maybe once or twice a week.
  • I did 1200 for a week - mostly as an experiment. I exercised everyday and ate those calories back - if I hadn't I think I would have caved on day 2 and given up entirely. Even with that, I ate over 1200 net on 4 of the 7 days - I couldn't do it.
  • Congrats everyone! We're getting married in early July - 4 months. I've not got much to lose but its that stubborn kind of weight that simply refuses to move! Best of luck all you brides (and bridesmaids to be)
  • I'm only in early days and have told my fiancee but other than that, no, I haven't mentioned it to anyone. The reason I'm not really telling anyone else (unless they ask) is because everyone is just so sweet that I will be bombarded with, 'but you don't need to lose weight' and 'you look great as you are' and tonnes of…
  • Sezxy Stef - you are absolutely right - 1200 is totally not sustainable for me long term, this is why I'm not too worried about going over. It is also why I do not plan on staying at such a low level for longer than a week and will continue to raise my intake over time. when I get to a more sustainable level of Kcal intake…
  • Thanks for your replies everyone. I'm on my 6th day of week 1 and at first it was fine but the last 2 days have been really tough. I know I can't really maintain the 1200 net and yesterday went over 1300 net but I am actually totally ok with that. I'm going to try two more days then push up to 1300 in earnest. Perhaps the…
  • Most certainly! If I'm honest I'm already kind halfway through week 1. Lets see how it goes. :)
  • I'm in Dublin. I know what you mean - friends in the same timezone would surely be handy!
  • I'm kind of not telling anyone I'm watching calorie intake for this exact reason.
  • 5'8 (or 5'9 - I never know) and 165lbs - working to get down to 150 for my wedding in July. Had a few stints with MFP in the past and am only on day 3 of this round but really need to keep to it.
