MFP does seem to be on the high end of estimations. Some people had reccomeneded using a heart rate monitor so I got one recently and now I use it as a guideline for calories burned. This is only my second day back on MFP but I'll be doing another weigh in next week to see if this system is working.

The couch to 5K is great, there is also a couch to 10K. You don't have to start at week 1 - maybe week 5 or 6. It took me a long time to get to running and now if I find a day where I'm just not motivated (or well enough) to do a full 30min the option of doing a run from an earlier week makes the prospect a lot less…

Any chance you could walk or cycle in to work? I work pretty far from home but I still try and cycle in at least one day a week. Other than that I just try and get out walking at lunch and running at the weekend?

Thanks folks - I think your all right, I'm going to try and enjoy myself and eat the food I love. That being said I'll probably still track the food, mostly at guesstimates and try and not eat too many delicious treats.

I've just over 15 to go. It's great that it's such a small amount but it is frustrating at how long it takes! Feel free to add me!

Great advice here already. I'm in the same boat, portion control is a real issue for me, if something is tasty I could just keep eating until I'm sick. I'd +1 small plates and bowls. I'm terrible for picking at leftovers in the kitchen and have found once I've served myself I have to put leftovers away in a box immediately.

I tried a three week detox a few years back and felt it did wonders for me. I try and do it every year now, generally after Christmas. I think it's about finding what works for you - the detox I went on was pretty hard core, no red meat, no dairy (except bio yogurts), no wheat, no fruit (except banana's and lemons), no…

My favorite lunch is a goats cheese salad with walnuts, dried cranberries and a light lemon dressing. It's refreshing and surprisingly filling - only 230 calories (depending on portions). I use: Salad - rocket leaves chopped walnuts dried cranberries goats cheese log Dressing - Lemon juice Olive oil Pepper Honey I'm also a…

Maintain while on holiday next week and lose a minimum of 5 pounds by the end of July. Ideally it would be 10 - but I keep hitting plateaus!

Mid section has got a bit jiggly as of late - I'm in! First 30 when I get home and then some catch up.

Thank you for posting this! Last week I almost gave up. I'd hit my plateau and the scales would not budge for weeks, then on Wednesday, despite low calories intake and exercise I'd put on 2 pounds and I was ready to throw in the towel. It must have been an anomaly because the following day those two pounds were gone plus…

Wow! These photos are inspiring! I'm 5'9 and it's still early days

Bizarrely I listen to audiobooks. I really dislike running/excercise - I'm always measuring in my head how much more is to go and it makes it last ages (subjectively). Listening to audiobooks distracts me so before I know it I've run 5K.

It's not really healthy to eat under 1200 for any extended period of time. Every once in while is not too bad but I try to be sure that I'm over 1200 every day. It's worth working out your Base Metabolic Rate or BMR (the amount of calories your body needs to function without doing anything) and try not got too far below…

Yep, it's the first place the weight drops off on me.

Hey there from Ireland! I'm pretty new to the forums too, and like you I've been using MFP for years. Feel free to add me as a friend - the mutual motivation may help!

Sending friend request now! :)

Congrats to both of you for starting! Those first few runs really are the hardest. I speak from an incredibly limited amount of experience. I started running last year but stopped over the winter and now I'm building it up again. I do not enjoy running, the only reason I got into it (other than to be healthy) was because…

I'm a little taller then you're asking but not far off. 5'9'' and started at 167, currently 164 and am aiming for 143 I'm a pear shape too... am very fortunate to have a rather small waist. At my best it was 26'' and now it's 29''. I want to get back down to 26'' which hopefully won't be too hard as it's the second place I…

I hadn't really thought of that. My home made Teriyaki sauce is quite high in sodium because of the gluten free tamari sauce I use. I might look into some other brands. We always have Teriyaki salmon on Thursdays because it's my fiancee's favorite meal (it is pretty yummy) I might move my weigh in day and remember to drink…

Thanks, it helps to hear of people in the same boat. It's only early days but my weight has been a lifetime issue and it feels like my body has decided that 163 pounds is where it's going to stay. No matter what I do.

I cycle to work some days, it's 15km each way and takes about an hour. The office is in an industrial estate at the base of a small mountain range so I'm cycling uphill going in and downhill coming home. I use the Strava cycle app and according to it I'm burning about 280 cal going in and around 180 going home. I'm 5,9…

I used to do it when I first started using MFP - but to be honest I'm trying really hard not to this time! For me it felt like I was losing at something and I really hate losing so I tried to hide it from myself. If you're finding it hard to stay under your current target maybe you've set it too low. Alternatively since…

+1 this!

I'm a little uncomfortable with the 'you don't want it badly enough' sentiment. I understand where people are coming from and yes it's important to want it otherwise you just won't be motivated. But, there is wanting it and then there is obsessing about it. When I was in my early 20's a had such low self esteem, and I felt…

Thank you everyone!! I got through the day without hitting those snacks and got home to a lovely stir fry my fiancee had cooked up! Today my breakfast has felt way more satisfying (boiled egg, half a grapefruit and a piece of dry toast). Thanks for the advice, I will be stocking up on some more varied snacks this weekend!

Am ignoring craving and drinking herbal tea! My bad - didn't realize that was locked down.

Thank you! I'm trying, only an hour of the day left to go then home and making dinner!

About 500 calories - I'm trying to be careful that I don't go over board.
