  • No point increasing the load this close to your half marathon - you'll just end up tired on the day. Repeat last week's training and then ease up week before the event.
  • I'm running up to 15km (9 miles) at the moment (about 90mins). While this doesnt present a problem overall and i could see myself doing 13 miles, some things change. A bit of chaffing in the shorts (not nice) hot spots in my shoes, dehydration are all becoming issues I will have to deal with if i want to keep running. So…
  • well? how did the parkrun go?
  • All you need is a pulse and watch - and I presume you have both of these. :) Best time to do it is when you have been resting and haven't eaten. So just as you wake up would be a good time.
  • I have done these off and on for nearly a year in Belfast. Really great opportunity for total beginners to do a timed 5k. parkrun website/results etc is very slick. It will be harder than the treadmill so pace yourself accordingly - maybe add 5%-10% depending on how hilly the course it. I haven't met anyone yet who doesn't…

  • Good luck with that - you have youth on your side. Haven't done a marathon but 4 - 4.5 would be a decent time - 10min mile pace.
  • There are a few possible outcomes here. 1. you train and finish the 5k and you feel good about it. 2. you train too much, get a strain, don't complete it and feel bad about it. Obviously you want outcome1 so the issue is the risk involved. You can achieve outcome 1 - a time that reduces the risk of strain and set-backs -…
  • What time are you aiming for?
  • In this instance, I don't think that signing up to put pressure on yourself is a good idea. Are you in the UK? If so, google Parkrun and see if there is one near you. It's a timed 5k every sat morning. Attracts all sorts, from good runners to those that walk the whole thing - so you definitely won't feel out of place. You…
